Is it just me or should prisoners work for free....? You're in prison because you committed crimes, some of them incredibly heinous and disturbing..... Why should we pay you for manual labor whilst in prison?

and even if you somehow forgot that part, you're overlooking the part where adding economic incentive to incarcerate more people can and does lead to false arrests. there are lots of cases where judges got exposed for taking money under the table in exchange for lengthening prison sentences and sentencing people who would otherwise be found innocent. one guy in one of the carolinas was bribed to send as many Black kids as possible to a for-profit prison. he was quite literally selling children into slavery. they were not freed when he was caught and removed from the bench

90% of disabilities are invisible. Those with power able to determine if we're fucked up enough to be unable to work are often ableists. They rarely give a flying fuck about us and would rather we were no longer a "burden" in order to make space for someone willing and able to work.

I had always assumed this was some extremist Christian book for kids. Turns out this is actually by a gay comic artist named Howard Cruse who passed away in 2019. This is from a 1980 short story called “Billy Goes Out” which tells the story of a man named Billy who is trying to move on with life after his partner’s untimely passing. I'm 5'11, but in most casual conversations I'll say I'm 5'9. I do this purely for the chaos that it creates. Because everyone assumes that men only exaggerate their height up, it makes me look like the only person honestly describing their height and thus knocks at least 2 inches off everyone else's description. The panic that the 6'1 guys feel at the thought of being described as 5'11 is hard to understate. I have had people run back to their cars to grab tape measures. If I could get away with describing myself as 4'6 I would.
