Time to finally rip the bandy-aid off...
I've been inactive on Tumblr for a number of years, so talking about JS&B feels a little out of character for me, after so long. Despite that, I would like to share my thoughts on this comic.
The Crisis AU comic was something I absolutely adored back in 2018 (maybe even 2017, but it's hard to remember). I idolized the comic art, I was in awe at the storyline, and even the creator themself was a joy to talk to, although I didn't reach out often in hindsight. I remember that this whole comic was pretty much my favorite thing ever, and I loved the concept so much, I would hype and gush in the comments over every update.
That was, until a point. I'd also found myself a tendency to move from fandom to fandom, and while I can still relate to a large fan base like Kirby or Undertale while not being super active, smaller games and hyper fixations tended to last a year and a half, *sometimes* two, if we're pushing it. And that was the case for JS&B, since there's only so much you can do with in-game content after a while and my personal interest in the series had moved on towards something new.
While that's not inherently a bad thing, it does mean I forgot to check for comic updates and silently slid out of the fandom, also forgetting this existed. Despite any of that, I still feel like the comic in it's earlier stages brought me so much happiness and hype for the fandom, and I know for sure that my experience there would not have been the same without that comic. Even if I've forgotten to catch up, I'm super proud of how far it's come, and I'm really appreciative that I was able to support it during the start. I've also changed interests since it began, but the Crisis AU will still hold a special place in my heart, even though it's been discontinued.
In essence, I feel you. I know that it's not easy to stick with just one fandom au, and it's even harder to stick with a storyline that goes on for so many years. While we're all happy it happened, if your style of writing and drawing has developed and changed since the start, that's honestly a sign of progress, and it just means your works from here on out will be even better than before. It's bittersweet to see the comic stop in it's tracks, but the reasons behind why you're stopping are incredibly valid, and no one should fault you for dropping it. Your views and motivations for it have changed, and that's almost bound to happen with a series that spans over a year in length.
Regardless of where you take it from here on out, I'm super proud of what you've done and how you've grown since the start of the series. I'm even shocked that you're continuing an ask blog for it! Like, I'm surprised, but in a good way! All in all, I'm grateful for all of the time, love and commitment you've dedicated to the AU as it is, I know if you were forced to continue it, it would probably not have the same hype or charm as it did before, with you being unmotivated and probably interested in other things by now.
Anyways! Thank you so much for what you've done for the Crisis AU and thank you for letting us be a part of that! It's sad to see the comic go, but it's even better to see you growing as a writer, artist, and person in general, so I wish you all the success in your future projects! And whatever you do, I hope you have fun with it!
