Tumblr has such a black/white mentality. Yeah, Stephen Stotch is an awful person. He was an abused child and now he is an abusive father and husband. But does that mean that he doesn’t care at all about his family? Nay. And why so? Because that guy is a fucking normie: he always goes with the crowd, wants to be a “normal” man with a “normal” family. And now he’s against half city. So yeah, a character can be a generally bad person and still shows true concern and love for others (Stephen is not a total sociopath, guys). That’s how life works.

My guess is that Stephen and Linda would have taken him back since they do miss Butters when he's not around - most of the times lol. I know he's bad and what he does is and will always be not ok, I just like the idea that he does care at least a little for Linda and Butters in his own fucked up way because he was abused himself and probably just doesn't know any better. (Also, I wouldn't cling too much to a single action, in South Park a lot of random weird sh*t is done for comedic or plot purposes and the show contradicts itself several times. Otherwise we should also never forget that Stan pointed a gun at Kyle's head, Cartman made him eat his farts and Butters killed all the people on a cruise ship because he was mad and yet everyone adores Style/Kyman/Butters)
