Liking a post says you liked it, or maybe it’s a personal post by a friend and you want to just quietly acknowledge it to them. Maybe you can find it again later in your likes if you want to share it. It’s NOT mandatory.

Reblogging is sharing it with everyone who happens across your blog. Reblogging is a good thing to do for sharing and promoting things you want to share and promote, or things you like enough to keep on your blog for other people to happen across as well. It’s NOT mandatory.

The OTT extreme language I’m seeing used to try and guilt-trip people into constant reblogging isn’t healthy. It’s what happens when you’ve had your brain poisoned by the commodification of hobbies and start treating everyone who’s not actively promoting your brand as some kind of enemy. Nobody who sees something in passing and finds it mildly interesting or generally appealing or whatever is obligated by blood-debt to then also recommend it to all their friends and promote it to everyone who happens by. It’s not an act of violence to not reblog. Stop calling people murderers when this is just about posting on our stupid little blogging platform.

You can reblog this if you want. Or not. It’s fine. It’s your blog. It’s your internet experience. You can curate it how you want to. You should curate it how you want to.

URGENT: 🚨🚨EARN IT ACT IS BACK IN THE SENATE 🚨🚨 TUMBLR’S NSFW BAN HITTING THE ENTIRE INTERNET THIS SUMMER 2023

April 28, 2023

I’m so sorry for the long post but please please please pay attention and spread this

What is the EARN IT Act?

This is the third time the Senate has been trying to force this through, and I talked about it last year. It is a bill that claims "protects children and victims against CSAM" by creating an unelected and politically appointed national commission of law enforcement specialists to dictate "best practices" that websites all across the nation will be forced to follow. (Keep in mind, most websites in the world are created in the US, so this has global ramifications). These "best practices" would include killing encryption so that any law enforcement can scan and see every single message, dm, photo, cloud storage, data, and any website you have every so much as glanced at. Contrary to popular belief, no they actually can't already do that. These "best practices" also create new laws for "removing CSAM" online, leading to mass censorship of non-CSAM content like what happened to tumblr. Keep in mind that groups like NCOSE, an anti-LGBT hate group, will be allowed on this commission. If websites don't follow these best practices, they lose their Section 230 protections, leading to mass censorship either way.

Section 230 is foundational to modern online communications. It's the entire reason social media exists. It grants legal protection to users and websites, and says that websites aren't responsible for what users upload online unless it's criminal. Without Section 230, websites are at the mercy of whatever bullshit regulatory laws any and every US state passes. Imagine if Texas and Florida were allowed to say what you can and can't publish and access online. That is what will happen if EARN IT passes. (For context, Trump wanted to get rid of Section 230 because he knew it would lead to mass govt surveillance and censorship of minorities online.)

This is really not a drill. Anyone who makes or consume anything “adult” and LGBT online has to be prepared to fight Sen. Blumenthal’s EARN IT Act, brought back from the grave by a bipartisan consensus to destroy Section 230. If this bill passes, we’re going to see most, if not all, adult content and accounts removed from mainstream platforms. This will include anything related to LGBT content, including SFW fanfiction, for example. Youtube, Twitter, Reddit, Tiktok, Tumblr, all of them will be completely gutted of anything related to LGBT content, abortion healthcare, resources for victims of any type of abuse, etc. It is a right-wing fascists wet dream, which is why NCOSE is behind this bill and why another name for this bill is named in reference to NCOSE.

NCOSE used to be named Morality in Media, and has rebranded into an "anti-trafficking" organization. They are a hate group that has made millions off of being "against trafficking" while helping almost no victims and pushing for homophobic laws globally. They have successfully pushing the idea that any form of sexual expression, including talking about HEALTH, leads to sex trafficking. That's how SESTA passed. Their goal is to eliminate all sex, anything gay, and everything that goes against their idea of ‘God’ from the internet and hyper disney-fy and sanitize it. This is a highly coordinated attack on multiple fronts.

The EARN IT Act will lead to mass online censorship and surveillance. Platforms will be forced to scan their users’ communications and censor all sex-related content, including sex education, literally anything lgbt, transgender or non-binary education and support systems, aything related to abortion, and sex worker communication according to the ACLU. All this in the name of “protecting kids” and “fighting CSAM”, both of which the bill does nothing of the sort. In fact it makes fighting CSEM even harder.

EARN IT will open the way for politicians to define the category of “pornography" as they — or the lobbies that fund them — please. The same way that right-wing groups have successfully banned books about race and LGBT, are banning trans people from existing, all under the guise of protecting children from "grooming and exploitation", is how they will successfully censor the internet.

As long as state legislatures can tie in "fighting CSAM" to their bullshit laws, they can use EARN IT to censor and surveill whatever they want.

This is already a nightmare enough. But the bill also DESTROYS ENCRYPTION, you know, the thing protecting literally anyone or any govt entity from going into your private messages and emails and anything on your devices and spying on you.

This bill is going to finish what FOSTA/SESTA started. And that should terrify you.

Senator Blumenthal (Same guy who said ‘Facebook should ban finsta’) pushed this bill all of 2020, literally every activist (There were more than half a million signatures on this site opposing this act!) pushed hard to stop this bill. Now he brings it back, doesn’t show the text of the bill until hours later, and it’s WORSE. Instead of fixing literally anything in the bill that might actually protect kids online, Bluemnthal is hoping to fast track this and shove it through, hoping to get little media attention other than propaganda of “protecting kids” to support this shitty legislation that will harm kids. Blumental doesn't care about protecting anyone, and only wants his name in headlines.

It will make CSAM much much worse.

One of the many reasons this bill is so dangerous: It totally misunderstands how Section 230 works, and in doing so (as with FOSTA) it is likely to make the very real problem of CSAM worse, not better. Section 230 gives companies the flexibility to try different approaches to dealing with various content moderation challenges. It allows for greater and greater experimentation and adjustments as they learn what works – without fear of liability for any “failure.” Removing Section 230 protections does the opposite. It says if you do anything, you may face crippling legal liability. This actually makes companies less willing to do anything that involves trying to seek out, take down, and report CSAM because of the greatly increased liability that comes with admitting that there is CSAM on your platform to search for and deal with. This liability would allow anyone for any reason to sue any platform they want, suing smaller ones out of existence. Look at what is happening right now with book bans across the nation with far right groups. This is going to happen to the internet if this bill passes.

(Remember, the state department released a report in December 2021 recommending that the government crack down on “obscenity” as hard the Reagan Administration did. If this bill passes, it could easily go way beyond shit red states are currently trying. It is a goldmine for the fascist right that is currently in the middle of banning every book that talks about race and sexuality across the US.)

The reason these bills keep showing up is because there is this false lie spread by organizations like NCOSE that platforms do nothing about CSEM online. However, platforms are already liable for child sexual exploitation under federal law. Tech companies sent more than 45 million+ instances of CSAM to the DOJ in 2019 alone, most of which they declined to investigate. This shows that platforms are actually doing everything in their power already to stop CSEM by following already existing laws. The Earn It Act includes zero resources for proven investigation or prevention programs. If Senator Bluementhal actually cared about protecting youth, why wouldn’t he include anything to actually protect them in his shitty horrible bill? EARN IT is actually likely to make prosecuting child molesters more difficult since evidence collected this way likely violates the Fourth Amendment and would be inadmissible in court.

I don’t know why so many Senators are eager to cosponsor the “make child pornography worse” bill, but here we are.

HOW TO FIGHT BACK

EARN IT Act was introduced just two weeks ago and is already being fast-tracked. It will be marked up the week of May 1st and head to the Senate floor immediately after. If there is no loud and consistent opposition, it will be law by JUNE! Most bills never go to markup, so this means they are putting pressure to move this through. There are already 20 co-sponsors, a fifth of the entire Senate. This is an uphill battle and it is very much all hands on deck.

  1. CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES.

This website takes you to your Senator / House members contact info. EMAIL, MESSAGE, SEND LETTERS, CALL CALL CALL CALL CALL. Calling is the BEST way to get a message through. Get your family and friends to send calls too. This is literally the end of free speech online.

(202) 224-3121 connects you to the congressional hotline. Here is a call script if you don't know what to say. Call them every day. Even on the weekends, leaving voicemails are fine.

2. Sign these petitions!

3. SPREAD THE WORD ONLINE

If you have any social media, spread this online. One of the best ways we fought back against this last year was MASSIVE spread online. Tiktok, reddit, twitter, discord, whatever means you have at least mention it. We could see most social media die out by this fall if we don't fight back.

Here is a linktree with more information on this bill including a masterpost of articles, the links to petitions, and the call script.

DISCORD LINK IF YOU WANT TO HELP FIGHT IT

TLDR: The EARN IT Act will lead to online censorship of any and all adult & lgbt content across the entire internet, open the floodgates to mass surveillance the likes which we haven’t seen before, lead to much more CSEM being distributed online, and destroy encryption. Call 202-224-3121 to connect to your house and senate representative and tell them to VOTE NO on this bill that does not protect anyone and harms everyone.

In Tennessee, democratic lawmakers are being expelled from the State House for bringing in people to speak against gun violence. This is against the Tennessee Constitution (article 2 section 27). Two respresentatives have already been expelled.

If you’re a resident of Tennessee, please take a minute to call/email Representative Sexton, who is heading this movement to expel the Democratic Representatives. Calls/emails/etc must be made by 4-5PM CENTRAL TODAY (4/3/23) when the last hearing is going to take place.

If you’re not a resident of Tennessee, please boost this! Exposing this call to action to the most people possible and simply knowing that it is happening is also important.

Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this, and anyone who takes the time to share this. If you have commissions or a donation post or something that needs to be boosted, send it my way and I will absolutely reblog it. Thank you again.

Hello everyone, sorry for not posting much this week! Was dealing with school and being sick 😔 Feeling better now tho, so here’s some older Collector ^^

None

OKAY so I saw this a few days ago and was like “whatever” but then I smashed my phone in a car door, had to clean up some dead baby bunnies in my yard, and have just generally NOT had a good week. I’m fucking spooked and I’m reblogging this twice to get the universe to stop.

I ignored this too and then i got kicked out of my house. Also reblogging twice.

So let me play it safe and reblog this.  I need no bad energy.

Chain letters are so 1970’s. But here goes!

I don't care what nationality you are. US, UK, French, German, anyone in Europe, please do me the grandest of favours and spread this around. Steal the link, make your own post, I don't care; just get it to the eyes of your viewers because if they're Canadian, I need your help.

This petition ends May 26th 2023:

What is this about?

"Whereas:

  • The world is becoming increasingly hostile to transgender and nonbinary individuals;
  • Transgender and nonbinary people's rights to live as themselves are being restricted and removed in many places;
  • This includes the so-called "Western democracies" which have historically been presumed safe;
  • The United Kingdom is revising their Equality Act to exclude trans people from its protections;
  • More than a dozen American states have enacted or are considering legislation eliminating or criminalizing gender-affirming care; and
  • Canada has prided itself on being an inclusive, tolerant, and welcoming society for everyone regardless of gender identity or gender expression.

We, the undersigned, residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to extend to transgender and nonbinary people the right to claim asylum in Canada by reason of eliminationist laws in their home countries, whatever country that may be."

It's better to give people an exit plan, and just hope they won't need it, then to do nothing and assume they'll be fine. Help us keep making Canada a positive place for everyone. I hope you'll sign if you're Canadian, and if you're not, I hope you'll help us make some positivity by sharing this around.

i agree that its a little strange to see just how big the discrepancy is between active users who post and reblog things and passive users who limit themselves to liking posts and/or voting in polls... but i also resent this idea of like. compulsory participation.

if people want to lurk, let them lurk. does it align with the core idea of a microblogging platform? not really, no. but tumblr is a public website and maybe its high time for some people to get more comfortable with the idea that you're always going to have a silent, invisible audience on the internet, who will read and watch and look at and listen to your stuff without making themselves known. thats the main difference between closed social networks like facebook, where you have total control over who sees what, and (semi) public platforms like tumblr.

yes, the whole like/reblog ratio thing has gotten worse recently, and im sure there are a lot of newcomers who simply aren't sure how to get started with a blog of their own (it definitely took me a while to start reblogging things when i first joined. and it was another few years until i eventually started making my own posts lol) and its good to encourage them, but i dont see how guilt tripping people is going to change anything, especially wrt artists

people don't come here to network, and it's a little strange to look at your followers purely as a means of distributing your own content. whether you're an artist or a memeposter or just a regular fucking person with 12 followers, YOUR own followers are your primary audience. as in, the people who saw your art and liked it so much they decided to stick around. and those people are very likely sharing your stuff anyway. next come the people finding your posts via tags. but anyone beyond that point--your followers' followers, and their followers--those people aren't part of your immediate community. they're random strangers who are here to curate their own little blog in whatever way they like. they're individuals with particular interests and preferences and not simply an abstract ~audience~ waiting to be fed. this idea that people who come across your stuff outside of your own little bubble, and like it, then somehow also owe you a reblog is incomprehensible to me. every single day i see art on my dash from fandoms i dont know and dont care about. and sometimes i click like just because it's well-made. that doesnt mean i want it on my blog

I'm absolutely loving In Every Life, you've really outdone yourself with this one. I'm especially excited to see you write Itama and Kawarama interacting with Tobi in this verse, since many of your mdtb stories stick close to canon and we don't get to see your take on those two. Also absolutely pumped for the sort of role reversal you seem to be setting up- Tobi as emperor and Madara as the arm candy making himself comfortable on the arm of Tobi's throne ;)

Ah! I am so glad you enjoyed it and sorry it didn't get much to them interacting, it wrapped up fairly fast after the battle in the end, but I will try to write something that has more of them soon!

I do love the role reversal of Tobirama on the throne and Madara intentionally dressing as arm candy just for the fun of it! in fact:

Itama loved his brothers, all of them, he and Kawarama had a bond that others didn't really understand from being brought to the Citadel so young and raised in the creach school together; both striving their best in the memory of the person that brought them here and finding their places at the sides of some of the most powerful people in the Empire. So yes, they had a bond most didn't get and could communicate across a room with a single look; but, but, it was different with his long lost brother, with their Tobirama. Oh sure neither of them had seen him after Everything until they got back to Konoha but Itama didn't begrudge Madara that time after everything (atleast, not much); honestly big brother had probably needed the time as much as anyone given how....how fucked up he had looked at the end there and that by the time Itama got to see him again (attached at the hip to Madara) he looked better, more settled and healthy and - less like he was just going to curl up and die. And Itama would take it, ok, he would, he would do anything to have his brother alive and well and if that meant helping Madara force Tobirama into the seat of the Emperor than he would do it dang it! Only, that meant there wasn't much time to spend with his big brother until it was all official and then. Look. Itama understood that Madara was a good looking man- not Itama's type but still- a good looking man; what he he didn't need was to see Madara dressed in layers of sheer gauzy silks in gold and red with his hair filled with the gold Tobirama had given him over the years draping himself over the back of Itama's big brother's throne like a - a - a - a courtesan!

And sure, Madara rocked a thigh slit way better than he should have been allowed too and dipping necklines showed off his, um, impressive pecs rather better than Itama would have guessed; but really the high heels were too much! Yes, they made him taller than Tobirama sure and the leather catsuit was - well, less said about that day the better in Itama's mind he thought with a shudder. It was just, he knew Madara liked to show off big brother and that was as it should be, he should want to show off someone as amazing as Tobirama was; but......was it really necessary to wear the pearl harness?! There were somethings Itama didn't need to know! He was an innocent! (...kind of)

When he expressed that to Kawarama his other older brother looked at him like he was stupid for a moment and then sighed, sitting and patting the seat next to him. "Com'er Ita, it's not - I mean, Madara likes to troll the court sure but that's not the main reason." Itama looked at his half-brother in shock "Madara dresses like that because it cheers Tobi up, it makes him smile and laugh at the court and reminds him that they are now because Madara wouldn't have dressed like that before. And-" Kawa flushed "-and I won't lie, the whole sexual appeal thing can really help distract Tobi when his mind tries to eat him. Its a great way to distract from an anxiety attack, so." he shrugged awkwardly "I mean, Tobi liking it would be enough reason for Madara to do it but, there is more to it and you can normally tell how Bad the day is by what Madara is wearing." Itama frowned, "The sexier the worse?" he offered and Kawarama grimaced.

"To an extent, but when Madara goes Martial, like armor and military looking with soft fabric under covering everything, those are the worst days. The days Tobi needs to feel safe and then be cuddle comfortably later without even a hint of sex, those are the worst days." Kawarama finished in nearly a whisper and Itama thought about that, about what that might mean, about - "Lets go cuddle pile brother!" he forced out through a throat that felt like it was being crushed and Kawa immediately brightened, standing and checking a tablet to find their brother (throne room, of course). Both brothers setting out and finding Tobirama alone with Madara in the room, the U'chi'ha in relatively natural clothing and Itama getting a nod when he glanced at Kawarama, both brothers grinning and then leaping to pounce on their older brother, cuddling him forcefully on a throne that really didn't fit three men until Tobirama snorted something that might have been a laugh while Madara leaned over the back and smiled down at the three of them.
