Watch WHY WE PROCRASTINATE AND HOW TO STOP IT here.

We all know it, we all do it, we all struggle with it: procrastination. No matter how often we think “today’s the day”, we’ll find at least 5 excuses to skip that one point on our To-Do List - again (and again, and again). Before I will talk you through 3 easy steps on how to stop procrastinating, I’ll tell you the one and only reason why you are doing it:

You simply haven’t decided to do it yet.

Whatever it is you want to do, if you keep pushing it further and further, finding excuses and ways out, you didn’t decide. Thinking about doing it isn’t deciding. Putting it on your To-Do List isn’t deciding either, and trying to go for it until it gets uncomfortable is nothing more than a sad attempt to decide. Think about it - its actually true, isn’t it?

To ACTUALLY go for it and therefore, to STOP PROCRASTINATION, these 3 easy steps helped me heaps:

  1. Find out what keeps you from deciding and find a solution. Is it fear of failure or are you too scared to step out of your comfort zone? Question yourself: isn’t the fear of never trying it out and possibly experience success bigger than the fear to fail trying? And is your comfort zone usually the place where the magic happens? (Hint: never darling!) Figure it out and decide to (or not to) go for it.
  2. Once you decided, point the moment during the progress where you are usually stopping - and find a way around it. Whatever it is, it can be solved by either finding a way closer to your goal which doesn’t include the annoying part or (more likely) getting some help - friends, (business-) partner, coach, professional. Note: this is not about “ahh I’m just not able to get out of bed” (for that case, skip to point 3), this is more about “I really want to, I really like to and I’m really fighting for it but no matter what, I can’t handle this one thing about it”.
  3. Stop making it negotiable and stop thinking about it before you are actually doing it. You decided to go for it, so its not questionable anymore. Make it as much of a duty as brushing your teeth or going to work. Get a positive mindset about it (think about the outcome, the goal you’ll reach soon and the progress you are making rather than the uncomfortable stuff) and what personally helped me the most: don’t think about it before you are doing it. As soon as you start to think about it, your brain tries to figure out a way around it (see, its not even your fault).

(little extra motivation: everything you include into your routine becomes a habit after one month. so it’ll get easier, and you’ll start loving it, I promise!)

Lets take going to the gym as an example:

  1. Whats the problem here? You can’t get out of your comfort zone. Think about how bad you want to be healthier, fitter, more toned, more active, or whatever. You actually really want it, and every time after the gym you feel incredible. So its definitely worth a little ass-kicking: here we go, you decided to go for it.
  2. The point where you always stop is when you lose motivation. Your action now: find some. If a gym partner motivates you, find one. If fit girls on social media inspire you, follow them and if you need a personal coach - hire one. Don’t be afraid to invest in yourself btw, this is the best place your money can go to!
  3. Get up in the morning, pack your gym back and don’t think about it. Grab it when you leave the house and enjoy your day, live in the moment and focus on what you are doing right now. When its time, start heading to the gym without even wasting a thought about it - I mean, if you are going to the toilet you won’t waste a thought about the “why” either, would you? And if a thought about fitness is accidentally crossing your mind, channel it in positive energy straight away: you are going to kick some ass tonight. You can’t wait until your progress is showing off. You can’t wait for the amazing feeling afterwards. And sooner than you think, you’ll be standing under the shower thinking “yas gurl!

I hope this is helping you to overcome procrastinating habits, and start moving closer and closer to your goals. Watch the full video here. By the way hi and welcome to every new follower on here, so happy about every single one of you. Feel free to message me, I’d love to get in touch with you! :)

Watch HOW TO MANAGE YOUR TIME BETTER here.

We are wasting it, we are enjoying it, we want more of it and sometimes it flies: Time - the most precious thing we have.

I’m sure you have said and heard the words “I don’t have enough time for that!“ plenty of times. Here’s what I think about it: it’s to 100% avoidable. Time is an illusion. We always have it when it comes down to it, and today I’m sharing 5 tips on how to make this thesis a fact

  1. Prioritise and make it a necessity. Take reading a book or going to the gym as serious as going to work or doing the groceries.
  2. Include the things you want to do in your time schedule and more important: Exclude the things you don’t wanna do. Saying “no” can be hard, but as long as you make your decision about opinion instead of feelings, nobody will get hurt in the progress and you’ll benefit.
  3. Don’t stress out about things before you actually need to do them. Enjoy the time you spend on something you like, and when it comes to the less funny part, give it your full attention and get it done.
  4. Chunk your “to do’s” down in one hour time frames (the amount of time our brain is able to focus on one thing). That way you’ll take it step by step and provide overwhelm.
  5. Our best friend: flight mode & “do not disturb”. You won’t believe how much your phone and especially social media is slowing you down in getting things done (even subconsciously). Get all kind of distractions out of your way.

My favourite tip is #1 though - it works so good. You know why? Lets do a little experiment

You tell yourself every day that you’re too busy with “important” things and don’t have the time to tidy up your room. You’ll eventually handle it until one day where you need to be at an appointment at 6 am - and suddenly can’t find your keys. You spend 35 minutes panically turning your room upside down until you finally sight them under your pillow (how did that even … ?) - anyways, the point is: You just spent 35 minutes. 35 minutes you were sure you wouldn’t have. You might be super stressed and late (what could’ve been avoided by making tidy up your room a priority) but the necessity of you needing your keys in order to leave the house made you having the time you were not supposed to have. Mind-blowing, isn’t it? Therefore, time is nothing but an illusion and the quote

“I don’t have time” really means “it’s not my priority.”

is on point. I hope those tips will help you get the most out of your time and achieve everything you want to. For more, check out this video. You’ll hear more from me soon gorgeous, xx

A MIND MAP ABOUT MIND-MAPPING

If you know me, you’d know that I am a highly visual person. I love learning from images and layouts, and my spatial intelligence is probably my strongest type of intelligence. Because of this, I often use mind maps to study, and so do a lot of other people. However, there are people who don’t really know how to make and utilize a mind map effectively. That’s what this post is for! Here’s how you can make your mind maps more effective and thus enable you to retain more information. (P.S. you might wanna zoom in)

By no means am I an expert in mind-mapping; these are just some habits I have when making a mind map that successfully does its job of helping me remember the topics I’m studying.

If you have any questions, feel free to drop an ask!

Hey guys, my week has been pretty hectic but I made time to create a few printables that will hopefully help you with your school life. Click on the titles (links to the file on my Study Drive) to download them!

To help you keep track of all your assignments, homework, projects, etc. Includes a progress bar that you can shade in according to how much of the assignment you’ve completed. You can also set a goal or expected score and compare it to your final score. I included fields for “date given” and “date due” so that you can prioritize and plan your tasks accordingly. I wanted to include a box to check when you’ve submitted the assignment because sometimes I complete the assignment but forget to submit it, or I’ve already submitted the assignment but panic because I thought I hadn’t done it yet. I couldn’t squeeze this into the sheet, but I think you could just put a tick beside the due date or something.

For subjects that require you to memorize formulas, like physics, economics, math, etc. The left column is for the formula, while the right is for variables and their units, e.g. “v = u + at” would go on the left, while the right column would have something like “v: final velocity/ms-1; u: initial velocity/ms-1; a: acceleration/ms-2; t: time/s”.

31 columns and 16 rows to help you maintain your habits, e.g. drinking 8 glasses of water a day, exercising, journaling, etc.

Similar to what I have in my bullet journal in this post. I use it mainly to see the relationship between how much I study and how high I score on tests, but you can also use it to maintain your grades.

That’s all for now. Hope these printables help, and may the rest of your school year be well-organized! Oh, and feedback would be rad; I always appreciate it when I find out how I can improve my content. Have a great week :)

A GUIDE TO MAKING EFFECTIVE SLIDES aka how to create presentation slides that actually improve your presentation

Anonymous asked:

hey there! i've been following your blog for a while and I was wondering whether you have any tips for studying in a noisy environment? i don't have my own room at home, so i usually end up studying in the living room because that's where the desktop computer is... but my siblings are always walking past and it's seriously so distracting :( any tips?

Hi there!! Thank you for asking, my brother actually faces thisproblem because his bedroom isn’t large enough for his desk, and he also can’tstudy even when there’s a small amount of noise, poor guy. Here are some tipsfrom both of us

  • Let your family members know when you need a little peace andquiet to really hustle and get some intense studying done. Sometimes they justaren’t aware that they’re being distracting. If I know my brother needs tostudy, I’ll watch TV some other time, or listen to music with earphones
  • This is super helpful for yourself as well, because you knowthat you’ll only be getting an hour or two of peace and quiet, which is a greatmotivator. If you only have one thing to finish the whole day, you’ll probablyget it done; if you add a few more things, odds are you’ll adjust the time youhave and get those done too!
  • Wear over-ear headphones on the regular if you’re doing lessdemanding homework to concentrate
  • Wait until later at night when some of your family members havegone to bed to nut out the worst assignments. I’m more of a morning personcompared to my brother, so he will usually wait until I head to sleep to gethis work done. He knows he can’t really get much done if there’s noise, so as aresult he gets all of his work done within 1-2 hours and has the rest of theday where he just does cursory reading.
  • Likewise, wake up an hour early to get your work done then ifthe rest of your family members are late risers.
  • Try and study at the local library if you can, or finish offyour work before you head home from school/uni. Everyone wants to get homequickly, so if you promise to yourself that you’ll finish your homework beforeheading home, you can bet that will light a fire underneath you!!
  • Try new study spaces! I made a list here and here
  • Try and acclimatise to noisy environments as a last resort. Iknow not everyone can do this, but you can try filling your study space withthe kind of noise that you like instead; play your favourite music softly on aspeaker and try and train yourself.
  • Start with easyhomework that’s mainly repetitive and doesn’t require thinking or planning e.g.copying notes that are just too messy to study from.
  • Move ontorevision materials that don’t require rote learning e.g. summarising paragraphsfrom the textbook.
  • Finally try androte learn things with music on, which will be the hardest. Don’t worry if youcan’t get this one, I still can’t do it.
  • You’ll findthat you can get at least some types of work done with noise in thebackground!! Hopefully this will help if you have just tooooooo much work toget done in a day!

Hope these tips help!! Let me know how you go!! ^_^

how to get the most out of (medical school) lectures

Before the lecture:

  • print off or download lecture slides (if available)
  • preview content or lecture outline the night before
  • make sure you’ve got all the supplies you need (eg. highlighters, pens, paper, post-its, books, charger for laptop if needed)

During the lecture:

  • actually listen lol and try to understand what’s being said
  • annotate the lecture slides
  • if there’s anything the lecturer emphasises, highlight it!
  • add any additional information that’s not in the slides
  • bring a bottle of water and/or some gum to help you keep awake and focused
  • turn your phone off or put it away in your bag to keep distractions to a minimum
  • when using a laptop to take notes, it’s tempting to start looking at other websites… don’t do it lol
  • i see so many people in the lecture hall scrolling through their facebook feeds
  • or tumblr (!!!)
  • but it’s honestly just a waste of time to attend if you’re not listening

After the lecture:

  • discuss with friends!
  • talking about a topic or explaining a concept to someone can really help consolidate your own knowledge
  • or even bring up points for clarification
  • if there’s anything you don’t understand, send the lecturer an email or go to their office hours
  • look over notes made during lecture within the same day
  • listen to the recording and add any missed information to your notes
  • go through relevant parts in the textbook
  • review, review, review!
  • weekends are a great time for this
  • the more you review, the better you’ll be able to retain the contents of the lecture

So that’s it, hope this helps! ♡
