Candlelight Restaurant-Some Insights
Long-time resident and current visitor of Candlelight Restaurant say the place is definitely a hidden gem in Candiac for its food and ambiance. Long-standing, cash-only joint just off Yarmouth Road in a busy, yet quiet, low-keys location. The owner/operator of Candlelight has been in the business for over 35 years and he has never underestimated the importance of customer service. The restaurant started out as just a grill that was always available to supply the "cheap" meals to local businessmen during the nights of pub close-outs. The name of the establishment stuck because of its original use - the only open kitchen in the area. When asked if there's a difference between the old style pubs of the past and the new concept of candlelight restaurants, the answer is not really. The foods and atmosphere are still the same as they've always been, although, the decor has obviously been updated to better suit today's needs. Although the original concept was strictly a "bar" for men, it has expanded to include dining rooms, lounge areas, private lounges, pool bars and tables for outdoor dining.the perfect romantic dinner is an excellent resource for this.
The original concept was adapted from a popular tapas restaurant in the Bahamas called Bahia Mar in Nassau. The Bahia Mar was located in an area of charming cobblestone streets that included cobbled intersections and a small island beach. The Bahia Mar was closing during the daytime to keep noise down, but opened at night to offer a wonderful outdoor dining experience. A fort overlooking the ocean was built near the restaurant to further increase the pleasant tropical ambience. The Bahia Mar quickly became a well known landmark and candlelight restaurant/bar.There are several similar restaurants in Candiac including Portobello, Lovers, Portola, Figueres, and Pat Patricia. Each of these restaurants has a slightly different twist on the traditional Bahia Mar fare, and many of them feature award winning chefs. The chef and owner of Pat Patricia's have won several awards and continues to please her customers with delicious meals and drinks. Of course, every other restaurant in the area is offering its own flare. It's no surprise that all of these restaurants have quickly become well known in the New York area.
