i miss when bots had urls like "jenny0047194" or "s8znmia802ng". i just blocked one with the url "evilpond" and i think it is really fucked up that they are able to take these wonderful urls away from all of the real people who might want them

This works as an answer to the metaphorical problem because the key is for the hedgehogs and prcupines to be a bit flexible about how they position themselves and keep thier spines pointed in such a fashion to minimize poking, just like how in human relationships you have to be a bit flexible and concious of your position relative to others, and to manage your sharp bits to minimize the harm you do to others.

i was talking to my friend last night and she was just luxuriating in her room wearing this plush leopard print robe but then her boyfriend came in to bring her orange slices and he was wearing an IDENTICAL leopard print robe i lost my fucking mind

I think all websites should have a policy for dead people. It's something that's inevitably going to come up, but I've seen so many websites fumble "oh, wait, our users are mortal."

An easy example would be all the inactivity policies coming out. Just. Ignoring the fact that some people really couldn't be active, and that their friends and family might still want to see their old stuff.

But I've seen other ones like "hey, it's no problem that our update wiped friends lists, you can just refriend people, right?"

It's a really weird hole website companies keep running into, and I'm not sure why? "Humans are mortal" and "living humans are often really attached to dead ones" are not obscure facts?

another heavy handed symbolism moment: my mom has a potted sunflower in the kitchen. because it is a sunflower, it keeps turning towards the light from the window. my mother keeps rotating it so it faces inward because she wants "to see its beautiful petals and have it really brighten up the space!" . the sunflower is visibly wilting .
