All narcissists give the silent treatment. It is a form of passive aggressive behavior. It is the narcissistic child version of a temper tantrum. I didn’t get my way, I am going to ignore you and hurt you, until you treat me or do for me what it is I wanted.

The length of the silent treatment is different amongst them and depends on the reason why they are giving it. Some causes of the silent treatment are you said something that hurt their fragile ego, or if they feel they you have slighted them in some way (this does not even have to be a real event, but something they have made up in their own freakish mind), or because that have found another victim they are looking to spend their time with and you are in the way, or they just find you annoying at the moment.

It is a very serious passive form of abuse. It is considered emotional abuse, to ignore someone, it is a form of control. When someone purposely holds back attention, conversation, any form of support it is not a normal response or form of behavior. When your partner ignores your calls/texts for hours, days, weeks this is not normal. If you live with the person and they purposely do not interact with you, turn their back to you at all times, refuse to acknowledge you is not normal.

Yes, they all give the silent treatment, reasons vary, but all expect the same outcome. It is a form of punishment, for you to learn how to behave around them, for you to learn what they expect from you, for you to learn to conform to their needs and wants. For you to learn that they come first and foremost above any of your needs or wants. When you succumb to their wishes, the silent treatment will end….Until the next time!

As time goes on in most narci relationships, the length of the silent treatment will grow. If it used to be a few hours it will turn into days. If it was a few days, it may turn into weeks. This is not a relationship. A real partner talks and the issues are worked out. Communication and compassion are two of the many areas a narcissist lacks. They have no compassion and the silent treatments just prove this. They know they are hurting you, they know you are desperate for them to contact you, to return your call, reply to your text. The narci feeds off this energy, it fuels their already inflated ego. At first when you have no clue what is going on and you get this gut feeling something is wrong; you will leave messages and texts asking what is going on, why aren’t you calling. You are feeding their ego, and falling right into their trap. They know they got you. When they do finally respond they will act as nothing is wrong or will be past the issue and not want to discuss it.

my grandfather ran a cheetah sanctuary in south africa and he’d just lie with them and sleep among them and they’d rub against him and chirp at him they’re big fucking babies

Another Fun Fact: Cheetahs are incredibly nervous animals. One of the (many) reason’s they’re going extinct is that cheetahs are so sensitive and nervous, some of them are literally too nervous to breed. Others will breed, but stress themselves out so much, they’ll lose their cubs. So zoos with breeding programs had to figure out how to make cheetahs comfortable enough to first of all, get laid and secondly - not spazz themselves into miscarrying. So what’d they do? They gave the cheetah’s their very own Service Dogs! The dogs make them feel safe, protected and secure!
