so it started when a secluded fishing hamlet came into contact with a being from the sea called ‘kos’. for one reason or another the inhabitants of this village started worshipping kos and being warped by its influence. word of this spread to yharnam and to byrgenwerth who sent a dispatch of hunters, led by gehrman and maria, to intervene and investigate the village. the hunters massacred the villagers and desecrated the body of kos, but we don’t know whether or not they killed it. because of their transgressions kos put a curse on the hunters, that when they die they are forever bound to a dreamworld called the ‘hunters nightmare’, where they hunt beasts and succumb to the influence of the old blood for all eternity. in the hunters nightmare, the hunter can find important figures from yharnam’s past, like ludwig, laurence, maria, and kos’ unborn child who was killed by byrgenwerth in the waking world. what’s really cool is that everyone we find in the nightmare is actually dead in the ‘real’ world and this is only a remnant of their consciousness that was taken to the dreamworld as part of the curse laid by kos. sick shit
