smth i've noticed is how many people think 9/11 just happened out of nowhere and this was the first time the us had ever interacted with the saudis or al qaeda or bin laden or saddam, like they think that 9/11 happened suddenly and there was no pretext that lead to it, only "this happened (for reasons unknown or because the actors were completely irrational lunatics), and this was our response" and i'm seeing the same thing now. and trying to apply any context or understanding of historical events or the things that lead up to large crises and events is viewed as forming some sort of justification or excuse, when that isn't the case. understanding context is not the same thing as agreeing with the actions taken, but that context is vital in forming any level of genuine understanding with what goes on in the world. like the fact that so many people don't connect 9/11 to the events of the gulf war or the presence of US army base in saudi arabia or understand that 9/11 emerged as a continuity, a continuation of the relationships and interactions and wars and power dynamics between nations that make up history, not an isolated event. people's actions make sense to them in their own internal logic, even if it's flawed or you disagree with it, even if they are harmful. these things can be analysed and understood. painting crises as clean slate scenarios that emerged out of nothing or acts of god or completely irrational actors doesn't help anyone. if u don't know what caused the problem how do you expect to fix it? and why pretend like you have the answers?

If there’s anything I want anyone to know about bisexual and nonbinary identities, it is that ambiguity is good.
