That's what no 1000 posed pictures and escorts can change - real chemistry conveyed by the expression in their eyes and body language.

SOMETIMES IM A BIT CONTROLLING…WIFEY TALKED

Can everyone who reads this PLEASE reblog it?!?!?  Libraries literally saved my life as a child!

Being abused at home, bullied at school and lost in the world, the library and all the books I could escape to the most amazing worlds, kept me alive!

I would walk to the library, and spend all day, from 10 am to 9 pm reading there!! I got special awards for how many books I read, I wrote little blurbs on why i loved the books (probably why I love to BETA and do ARCs)

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Just hit the green arrows and the reblog!!!

As a 50 year old woman, the library offers me so much. Digital art pads to borrow, 3D printing, book clubs that are face to face (yeah, the introvert likes face to face because a moderator will stomp on anyone getting snarky)

New books in LARGE PRINT! I’m visually challenged and as much as I love my kindle, The feel of a real book in my hands will always be a beloved feeling!

Our library also has quarterly books sales of almost free books!! For 5$USD we get in a day early and can buy as many as we want. Anyone else has to wait and there is a limit for the first 2 days.

Also many, many libraries have inter library loan(it may be called something different). This means if they don’t have the item you want, they can get it for you. This may include photocopy/pdf of articles. This can also include along with books and DVDs, microfilm/fiche which is also a huge resource. Check around for libraries that are listed as depositories if you want to look at government documents.

Remember that many colleges and universities have open stacks for the public. You will likely have to pay a membership fee but you will get to stuff.

I love the library ☺

The library was one of my favorite places to go as a kid and I still live to go and just. Sit and read. Or do homework. The university I’m at has a massive 8-story one I love to just wonder around in~ Great places

Libraries are amazing places, we need to protect them to ensure their continued existence.

Sam on High Performance Podcast

I listened to this podcast with no expectations because I’ve never heard of it but I noticed it was an hour and Sam’s best interviews are the longer ones.  They asked really great questions.  Even their Bond question was framed in an interesting way.   It is hosted by Jake Humphreys and Professor Damian Hughes and the focus on what it means to be a high performer in any field.

Some of the stories we’ve heard, Sam growing up or being almost ready to give up acting when he was so broke. But others were new for me.

I was writing fast and rewinding but I’m sure that some of the things are more paraphrasing than actual quotes.  Your writing hand gets really cramped when trying to transpose longhand for an hour.    Some things I was careful to get the entire quote even if it meant rewinding 4 times. <Things in carets are my thoughts>.

At the start, they mentioned that SAS: Red Notice (Rise of Black Swan) was the most watched movie ever on SkyTV.

Q: What is high performance?

S: Reaching your maximum potential as a person or a human being

Q: Do you see yourself as a high performer?

S: Years ago, no  (Compared actors training and muscle memory to athletes). An actor has to operate in certain fields.  You have to test yourself, get into the mind of the character, learn new skills

Q: How do you measure that?

S: I’m never content. For some people it’s fame and fortune <Thought it was interesting he didn’t mention awards which underscores what I’ve said about that’s not the first thing that is important to actors. >

There is just so much to learn and each character teaches you something different about the journey.  But I realized I can do more than acting, I can become my own boss, become an entrepreneur and that’s rewarding.

They asked him how that applies to Outlander and he says some scenes they do 20-30 takes.  He said your mind goes elsewhere but your body reacts, responds to the other actor.  (That’s good)

Q about balancing rejection in this profession

S: Often times, (early on) you are always trying to please others in an audition.  What do they want?  The director, the producer, the studio, the future audience.  My biggest weakness is I still try to please people.

Q: So what does it take to get over that?

S: Bravery and confidence are important but not over-confidence.  I struggled with confidence early on but confidence comes with experience.

If I had success at an early age, I’d be a complete mess.  Probably all over the tabloids!

Q: Talked about how he auditioned for Tron, asked how do you handle something like that which could be totally life changing, and is in the hands of someone else- especially when you were struggling

S: I was living in a small place, bad neighborhood, I’d been sick, living on a bowl of porridge a day. They flew me out there, got the first-class treatment.  They even tell you in advance what it pays so you’re very aware of that before audition and it adds more pressure.  I messed up the first take so I did press-ups (Push ups?) to get the blood flowing.

Now, when I’m nervous, I just tell myself to relax and see what happens.  I’m prepared so don’t worry about this.   He said muscle memory of the “brain” in learning lines-you get better at it over time-it gets easier.

Q: Talked about how do you prepare for a role

S: I’m a bit of a control freak in certain areas of my life. With acting, there’s a weird side that I think it is important to prepare but I think I’m an instinctual actor.  I like to know the playing field and text and  just go for it. Other actors really want to know about what’‘s going on in the scene, each arch, each graph.  I kind of don’t want to know what’s going to happen, I just want to feel my way through it. I think that’s what’s really interesting,  I have a co-star on Outlander who is the opposite and it is interesting to see what happens for different people.

Q: Mentions athletes stay the same thing about different people’s prep.  How do you balance two different approaches like that?

S: Everyone has their own process (talked about some like to go off and listen to music, others prefer to “shoot the shit”).

Q: So understanding them is as important as delivering your own performance?

S: Yes, I think I grew up being very sensitive, maybe because of the my upbringing but I can walk into a room (and this might help as an actor) and I am quite sensitive and can gauge other people’s energies.  That maybe might help me as an actor, your responding to what you’re getting from them, and being aware of their energies is important.  And you can respond to that. < I immediately thought about Cait being all frazzled because she was late to her audition, and she said he was her calm center.>

He said he also learned a better mindset about audition rejection for himself or others.  Being hired first on Outlander helped him see how others feel when they come in because he had to audition others.  He said knowing their energies helps take the pressure off of them.    It’s not that they were wrong, it’s that someone else was more right.

Auditioning is a vulnerable thing.  You have to let it go and move on.

Q: Talked about social media and how to deal with comments on your performance when the person not within our world.

S: At first, I threw myself into it and would read comments.  You read negative feedback and at first you take it to heart. (Or reading critics too)  Now, I’ve gotten better at it, I don’t bother to read them, but it is interesting because you can get 100,000 great comments and one negative and you take that one to heart.

I have a love/hate with social media.  It gives us access to people which is wonderful but it can be quite negative.<At this point, there’s quite an obvious edit to cut off whatever else he said.>

Q: You released a statement about it last year=it’s tricky because your career puts you in the public domain but therefore people think you are fair game for that.

S: <This is not the first time I’ve felt he was reluctant to talk about this.>  in the rise of the internet, people can find out information and find out about (and almost have an influence) your persona life and I’m very protective of my personal life.  Something that I’ve learned over time.

At that point, I’d reach the end of dealing with it and felt a statement was necessary.  Sometimes people don’t know what goes on, we see celebrities, athletes but we don’t know what’s going on in their lives or who knows what could have happened that day or the day before.  It’s all fake anyway-look at Instagram and what people putting out-is it reality? Not really.

Q: Did it help?

S: For a short time and then it goes back to what it was.

Q: You have to only listen to people that matter-what do you look for in this people you want in your inner circle.

S: I’m a bit of a loner, I have a really small group of close friends.  I think there’s this drive and I’ve put my career first  in my life and at times I’ve let personal relationships go to one side. . <He’s talked about this before; I think most notably with Batman.  It also made me think about recently when he said he may turn down a part because there are other things more important in life. >  I do have a small group of friends or people who are close.   I’ve become more guarded as I’ve had more success. There’s more to play, and I guess more happening in your life that maybe you want to protect..or you want to control.

What do I look for?  My closest friends have known me the longest.

Q: What qualities do they bring to your life?

S; They give me comfort, support, understanding and empathy.  Someone that’s been through something similar, or understands your situation and where you’re at. I think it is so important to have someone like that.   It’s hard to know what other people’s agendas are. It’s important to have that base.

Q: Does it take you time to be you when you meet new people?

S: Yes and no. I think  I’m approachable but in the last few years, I think I do protect myself more.

Q: Talk about the importance and power of  Dreaming in relation to the bad audition conversation.  Asked if  getting talked about for Bond was part of a dream.  What’s your relationship with those kinds of conversations, do you allow yourself to dream?  And if you or don’t, is it a powerful thing?

S: Yeah, It’s important to dream and to inspire to greatness and new goals.  Bond? That’s one of many roles that you’d die for, but I am very aware that it’s more of a bookie’s dream than anything!  But it is important to dream big. He equated it to athletes who dream of the Olympics.  To strive for more is important.  <Note: He uses the athlete comparison a lot because they interview a lot of athletes on this podcast.>

Q: What is your equivalent to the Olympics

S: whispers snarkily James Bond.  No, it’s not. There are an infinite amount of amazing roles out there.  But for me, it’s not just about acting now, I have a lot of projects and things on the go.  Actually, I’m finding more doors are open in those fields of being an entrepreneur than in the acting world.  I’m finding a lot of satisfaction there.

Q: They mention MIK, whisky and ask about MPC

Q: What are three non-negotiable behaviors for Friends

S: Honestly, enthusiasm, determination

Mentioned he went through a bereavement recently and wished he’d spent more time with that person.  <His mother’s longtime partner>

Q: What is legacy and what do you want yours to be

S: So interesting, I want to leave behind a better place.  I want people to look back or rewatch a given performance and like it

Q Any books or podcasts to recommend:

S: Mentioned he has an upcoming job about Everest <Remember, how I said actors and entertainers look at their work as a job just like you or I and they don’t say Movie, TV, Concert. It’s a job.>  Mentioned some of the books he’s read about reaching the summit.

Q: Leave listeners something about rejection and a golden rule to live by

S: Sleep more (Professor Hughes-recovery is important) and relax, you’ve got this.

Thank you for the summary!

Thank you @cb4tb for transcribing and your comments! Great interview!

Hey do you remember in which interview Sam tells about the shoot they did on his birthday on the mountain top????

Avatar

Hello @garvita2002! Thanks for the ask! I apologize if this is really late, Tumblr didn’t let me know you sent anything -_-

I think the earliest mention of Sam talking about the Very Special Mountain Top Birthday™ is in 2015 for Travel + Leisure Magazine.
He also mentioned it in his foreword of Cameron McNeish’s book There’s Always The Hills, calling it “momentous” and “remarkable”
He’s talked it about it several times over the years. He’s answered tweets about it calling it one of his favorite / most memorable days shooting Outlander. And he even posted a BTS video of this photo from that day that sits in the halls out their studio.
Recently he and Caitriona both have brought that day up during Outlander promo dubbing it “The Picnic” and saying it was one of their Top 5 Moments
As much as they both like to complain about the weather they had to endure... I think they both remember that day fondly 🥰

With Sam shooting Everest and Cait campaigning for the Oscars can you see them starting shooting s7 anytime soon? I guess April or May seems more realistic. And if Cait wins, and the experts say she will, that means A LOT or press, especially in the States. You've said OL comes first but would Starz deny an Oscar winner their moment of glory? And who knows what Sam's up to as well. I just selfishly want more OL 😆

I've read the experts say many different women will win. That's what you always get this time of year. Remember, Oscars are campaigned for in public view to raise ticket sales and what you see is nothing to what goes on behind the scenes. It's quite obvious that Belfast PR has partnered with Variety, for example. I think Belfast PR team has done a really great job and been very smart about it. Entering it into festivals with small, not very well known movies or producers to add wins to their promo. Even securing nominations in independent film categories, which is pretty hilarious when you think about the fact that Sir Kenneth has three Oscar nominations, Emmys and Baftas. But sure "technically" it's an independent film. It's like entering the Red Sox in the Little League world series. But as I said, I've been impressed with their PR machine. I have no doubt they will be able to secure many nominations with their behind the scenes campaigning and politicking.

There will be a lot of press the week of and maybe a few days after the award ceremony, but that's it. Do you remember who won any of the major awards last time? I bet you don't.

I've already looked up where I can go watch Belfast next week because I was going to take my Irish mother, but it's not playing at any cinema within 40 miles of me so we have to actually drive into another state. I would not do that if it was not Cait's film. And there is a massive 12 screen movie complex 15 miles from me that usually carries everything.

Sam could not accept Everest without approval from Outlander executive producers, the network etc. Cait's award season nominations were probably built into the schedule. Both his and Cait's obligations are to the show first and foremost whether they've been committed to a project elsewhere, won the Nobel Peace prize or been elected to Congress. But just like with the times they have stopped production to do SDCC, it's all done in the planning. Even if she herself is not nominated, she would probably go if the film was nominated.

Also if I recall parts of the next book are very heavy on Roger and Bree story so it's not like seasons 1 and 2 where Sam and Cait needed to be there every day of every week of shooting. Not to mention many actors who have current TV programs in production and who also are working on a movie have done both simultaneously.

I'm going on a tangent a bit as most of your answer is about Cait and Sam's near future schedules with Belfast and Everest.

But regarding OL, please please please Tallships don't make the abysmal mistake you did in season 4 and give more visibility to snoozefest Broger 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 I don't care if the books have more of them, those are big books which are trimmed of quite a lot of material for the adaptation. Sophie and Prik can't even carry a scene together with their sub-zero chemistry, so "leading" an episode, let alone a season would be horrific 🙄🙄🙄 I seriously hope that lessons have been learned after the gigantic clusterfuck which was season 4 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 Recurrent rant over for now 😏😏😏

Remember when Sam was supposedly stuck in Hawaii in early 2020 and Caitriona was supposedly stuck at home with a tan? She was baking a lot and providing general distraction to the OL fandom?

Caitriona did a revealing zoom interview with Reserved Magazine in April 2020 that included:

1) Caitriona getting all riled up and standing up for her hubby Sam ❤️

2) saying how she hates cleaning all the time (because her cat was so messy) 🙄

3) was watching so much TV 📺

4) how she was cooking every night 👩🏻‍🍳

5) how Fridays are pizza night so she doesn’t have to cook 🍕

But this is my favorite…

Interviewer: You’ve been baking a lot, yeah?

Caitriona: I’ve been baking a little bit, yeah. Umm, that’s been fun. They’ve been quick to eat it all though. There’s been a couple of days where we felt kinda like the worst babysitters in the world. We had cake for breakfast and cake for dinner…umm but yeah…it’s been good. 👧🏼👦🏼👧🏼🍰🍰🍰

Me: Umm, yeah. Caitriona, you are such a mom. And it’s totes obvious that you Sam live together and have kids. (Four kids now) 😉

Still don’t understand the Hawaii bs but highly doubt you got that tan in Glasgow. 😏

Here’s the link to watch the full zoom interview: https://www.instagram.com/tv/B_nEc-rnkDX/?utm_medium=copy_link

October 29, 2021

This interview was April 2020, not that far into the pandemic. I agree with @diggsydogsquee she wouldn’t be babysitting anyone else’s kids. We were all self isolating to reduce the spread and no gatherings with people you don’t live with. She mentions “They” (They’ve) which is typically used to describe more than two people.

Also, the reference to Friday night pizza night 🍕 Totes normal with kids to have Friday pizza night.

I was listening to the Love/Hate Club podcast again and check out what Sam says starting at 42:54 when talking about what reality shows he is loving to watch during lockdown (June 2020). He says he’s obsessed with “Bake off: The professionals” and goes on to say he’s ready to be on a celebrity version of the show “I want to be in one of those kitchens making cakes”.

Seems someone likes to bake cakes, maybe has been practicing a bit too, and is ready for his reality baking show debut. 😏

Happy baking....in you're Glasgow kitchen!!🥮🥟🍪🥧🍰🍽🍴🥄🔪🥛🍼

Spoiler...

Scot off the presses! Gather round for a glimpse at Outlander’s sixth season premiere.

It’s a wee while until our favorite century-spanning series returns in early 2022, so since we can’t time-travel, the show’s executive producers Maril Davis and Matthew B. Roberts and star Caitriona Balfe sent us over a script page from the season 6 premiere of the Starz drama.

In the scene, Claire (Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) discuss new arrivals on Fraser’s Ridge, the Christie Family, comprised of Tom (Mark Lewis Jones) and his two children, Allan (Alexander Vlahos) and Malva (Jessica Reynolds). While Tom may be an old Ardsmuir acquaintance of Jamie’s, that doesn’t mean his family’s presence won’t be disruptive. “We just wanted to come into the first episode and really give you background on that relationship,” says Roberts. “There’s this assumption that all of Jamie’s Ardsmuir men are people he had a good relationships with and who look up to him, and that might not be the case.”

Read on to see how a conversation about Ridge life soon turns steamy between the century-crossed lovers.

  1. NEW KIDS ON THE RIDGE “The audience will find out quickly where all this tension comes from,” Roberts says of Jamie’s history with Outlander’s new arrivals, Tom Christie and his children Allan and Malva. “They are not your typical villains,” adds Balfe. “There are so many twists in the tale. It’s very destabilizing for Claire.”
  2. GUT FEELINGS “Over five seasons, we’ve learned that Jamie is a great character judge,” says Roberts. “He knows down deep people don’t necessarily change that drastically. To me, that line says, ‘You’re right, Claire, I should probably turn them away’ — but he’s a man of his word.”
  3. TIES THAT BIND Balfe’s Claire was “a tether for Jamie at Ardsmuir Prison,” says Davis, recalling Jamie’s post-Culloden days. “Even during the 20 years Jamie thought he’d never see Claire again, she was always his touchstone. Tom and his kids never had that tether. They’re all coming to the Ridge searching for something, whether that’s salvation, hope, or whatever it is. I’m not sure if they’ll find it. [Meanwhile,] Jamie and Claire keep thinking they’re safe at Fraser’s Ridge, but in season 6 we’re asking, ‘What do you do when your home turns against you?’ We’ll see how that happens in their own backyard.”
  4. AN ANGEL’S TOUCH Use your imagination.

Outlander returns to Starz in early 2022.

i had no idea this is what it said and now i’m emotional bye

The wink emoji is everything 😏

Cait: It was the wedding episode...yeah it was the wedding episode...I do have a good memory...

Me: No, it was The Reckoning episode actually, filmed prior to the wedding episode...sure must be a blur when you’re kissing on set and off...🤪 Oh, and Happy 42nd Birthday and 6th Wedding Anniversary to you Cait! 🤓

Every year there is this navel grazing kevtching about birthday wishes. It’s just so ridiculous.

For those who believe they are just friends and colleagues. He has her number. So he can be wish her more effusively, privately.

For those shippers who are distressed that it was a story and not in his feed, and not as OTT like previous years - well he woke up next to her, got the baby and wished her the happiest birthday wishes. And yeah obvs he has her number. In more ways than one 😉🤓

It’s clear that this strategy was to remove the toxicity that anything more would yield. All the crazies leaving comments.

The baby changed everything!
