To Days to Come...

My name is Izzy and I am a tech-shy young adult person. This is essentially going to be a place for me to archive the things I find that I find interesting. Expect a lot of Doctor Who (both new and classic), Avengers, and a lot more now that I am finding more sources, and all of it mostly in an endless queue. Or all at once on occasion.
The Eighth had brought some mistletoe, And aimed for Seven, to Seven’s woe: ‘Ah! No! Rrrrrevolting! Ace! D’you mind? Try Six, he’s more that way inclined.’ ‘That way inclined? Inclined? What, me? I burst with masculinity! […] Five called to light the pud this year – ‘You’re good at starting fires, I hear?’ The dancing flames sent Eight insane: ‘Yes! I remember! Pudding Lane!’ He planted Five with juicy smackers, Two and Seven pulled on crackers, […] ‘I knew Puccini once,’ sighed Eight, ‘He had the softest lips.’ That’s great, But stay away from me, you sissy,’ Four looked cautious, Eight looked kissy. Three o’clock, the Queen appeared, The Third, all patriotic, cheered, But Eight, lips puckered, mistletoe handy, Went for the clown and got the dandy. Tried again to get the clown, But got a slap, so settled down.

"The Feast of Seven… Eight (and Nine)"  by Vanessa Bishop, from 'Short Trips: A Christmas Treasure'

In which the Doctors have a Christmas party and Eight tries to kiss all his former selves.

Because… yeah.

"Conditions were severe for horses at the front; they were killed by artillery fire, suffered from skin disorders, and were injured by poison gas. Hundreds of thousands of horses died, and many more were treated at veterinary hospitals and sent back to the front. Procuring equine food was a major issue, and Germany lost many horses to starvation through lack of fodder. Several memorials have been erected to commemorate the horses that died."

Remember the soldiers that lost their lives, as well as all of the animals that served along side them.

THIS. I have spent all semester researching the use of animals in war and there are things you cannot even imagine. I cry on a daily basis reading accounts of animals in war.

"By the time Hallowe’en arrived, Harry was regretting his rash promise to go to the deathday party. The rest of the school was happily anticipating their Hallowe’en feast; the Great Hall had been decorated with the usual live bats, Rubeus Hagrid’s vast pumpkins had been carved into lanterns large enough for three men to sit in, and there were rumours that Albus Dumbledore had booked a troupe of dancing skeletons for the entertainment."

Full size here. This is a sort of blanket response to the questions I get this time every year about what various Lackadaisy characters would wear for Halloween.

I thought of dressing them up as early 20th Century icons and people of historical relevance - you know, something vaguely intellectual - but then I got distracted by the amazing, abominable craft-work concoctions pictured up top.  Well, I couldn’t not draw that.

(The topmost images are mostly from Dennison’s Bogie Books of the 1920s.  They’re a hoot.) Happy Halloween, everyone!
