side effects of being numb due to mental illness:
- not crying for weeks and weeks on end until one day, you’re breaking down over something that isn’t actually worth getting upset about
- not being able to tell if your feelings for people are platonic or romantic or if you’re just lonely
- instead of caring too much, you don’t care at all about anything
- not being able to process anything going on in your life and when you try, your brain stalls out
- losing your train of thought every five seconds, so when you try to have a conversation, you have to pause and remember what you were trying to say

IVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS ALL DAY SO HERES ANOTHER REBLOG FOR THOSE WHO HAVENT SEEN THIS BEAUTY YET
My favourite part of that Buzzfeed shit was about ‘nigga’. Like ‘Ugh, other Black people are so stupid and horrible for wanting to use that word.’
Well, lemme tell yall, I’m a sociolinguist specialising in AAVE and writing my Master’s Thesis on why nigga happened and its social implication.
AAVE is known for semantic bleaching of obscene words so that they can be reappropriated for different purposes. This is why, for example, we add -ass to the end of things, including adjectives and gerunds, to make them more emphatic (e.g. Her long hair havin-ass took 20 minutes to get ready). This is also why we have certain social contexts where it’s okay to use ‘bitch’ and ‘ho’ and some where it isn’t (à la @katblaque, I thought about this from your video). This has its roots in West Africa, where obscenity is more context based and less lexically linked (a word isn’t always intrinsically a cuss word, but who, how and when someone says it may make it offensive).
It wasn’t until the post-Civil War era when assimilationist Black people decided that using words the white man found offensive was not going to help the cause. Sadly, this ideology persists today.
Nigga has also undergone semantic bleaching, but in a much different way. Black people calling each other nigga is not new, and in fact may even date to slavery. However, in the Africanist way, rarely have Black people as a group taken offence to intragroup usage of the word. There have been individuals who have (and sometimes, these individuals are the most outspoken), but generally it has had a very neutral tone in the AAVE and Black world. However, as recently as the late 80’s and early 90’s the usage of nigga has been politicised, especially through the use of early hip hop, where it was again given new meaning. While nigga had always had nuances of negative, neutral and positive lexical meanings, this was when it was explicity stated on a mainstream stage that Black people can say nigga, white people cannot, and it is because of the usurpation of power. Black power does not entail antiwhiteness, but it does include usurping power from the institution of whiteness. This happens at the linguistic level as much as anywhere else. And in the same way that the LGBTQIA community decided to reclaim ‘Queer’, so did the Black community choose to reclaim ‘nigga’. Neither. Of course, was a unanimous decision, but they were both generally accepted decisions. What’s more, Black people added an African twist to their reclamation: just as in Africa words are vulgarised by context, so was nigga. In this case, nigga is vulgarised when spoken by a non-Black person.
The social implication then is an anti-assimilationist and Africanist approach to intragroup semantics. It demonstrated unity, power and linguistic pride in the African American speech tradition.
So, @buzzfeed, if you don’t want to participate, that’s fine. Every Black person is allowed to be individual and have their own opinions. But I and many other Black linguists have been pro- (or at least neutral-)nigga for some time. Just wanted to clear it all up for yall.
Holy shit get fucked @buzzfeed
I said it when i was 14 and i’ll say it at 18, the SEX INDUSTRY ISN’T A GOOD THING.
A bunch of people made me feel bad for saying this, but I’m happy to see other feminists have the same views on this as me.
You wanna talk about protecting women? Supporting sex workers isn’t the way to go. How many sex workers love their job? A very, very tiny percentage next to the women who are being used and forced into it.
Prostitution raises rates in human trafficking. Don’t fight with me by saying women want it because about 98% don’t want it. They are forced into it. All because these feminists who want to empower women by helping making a industry that is notorious for hurting women legal because of the few women that are out there who just absolutely LOVE their job. I care about the majority.
Of course “other feminists” that haven’t done sex work have the same opinions as you: it’s really easy to hold views about marginalised women that harm them but make you feel good when you can just ignore the protests of the actual women affected. And so you’re so unconcerned about the actual women that you don’t even pretend to care about them - before you’ve even gotten to legislation you’ve declared that you won’t even “support” them as people!
Whether we “love our job” should have no bearing on our right to be able to work safely and not have people like you campaign for laws that make it easier for men to rape and murder us. We sure as shit aren’t talking about empowerment - we’re talking about safety and survival, and people like you harm that.
You don’t “care about the majority” when you serve us up to men like Gary Ridgway on a platter and say “have fun!” because telling yourself that doing that is fighting the man or something makes you feel good. You are putting the lives of women who’ve lived things you’ll never have to in danger and you’re proud of that.
wait what the fuck?
You are literally talking to me like i want prostitution to be legal. Like I WANT YOU TO BE RAPED?
Are you kidding me?
SEX WORK SHOULD BE ILLEGAL. PROSTITUTION SHOULD BE ILLEGAL.
Who said I wouldn’t support women? You are literally putting words into my mouth and making shit up. Did you even read the post or did you stop at a certain point and get keyboard happy?
I know girl who did sex work and thought they would come out okay in the end and they fucking didn’t. They were raped, got stds, and addicted to something.
Sex work is the reason human trafficking exists.
people like you campaign for laws that make it easier for men to rape and murder us.
Okay. sorry. I guess wanting prostitution to be illegal means it is making men easier to rape. you #logic
Literally where are you getting this shit? Your argument is something that would be a good fight against someone who says prostitution should be legal, not against someone who says it should be illegal.
SEX WORK ISN’T SAFE. IT WILL NEVER BE SAFE.
Women are either forced into it or go in on their own will. Women are beaten, raped, and even killed in this line of work. There are a few who say they love their job. Good for them, I care about the women who are getting hurt. I care about them. So all that shit should be illegal.
Just like the porn industry. Women are raped, beaten, injured, and are forced to do drug or have to do them in order to get through. How is that okay?
Yeah i fucking care about women. Don’t say i don’t. That was the whole point of my post I don’t know what your argument is supposed to be, but i don’t think your mind is working right.
I’m not sure if you’re in favor of prostitution being legal, but if you are. Don’t sit there and say YOU care about women. You don’t. Prostitution being legal make it easier for human traffickers to get what they want to ruin as many lives as they can. We need to shut it down and keep women safe.
I can’t… i don’t even know where the fuck your mind is to say that im the reason for bad things to happen and that i don’t care about the actual woman. fuck off.
Here’s the thing - you say don’t want people to be raped, but criminalisation of sex work is about the most powerful tool there is in empowering rapists and other violent men to harm sex workers. That’s the reality. Criminalisation doesn’t make the sex industry go away - it just makes it more dangerous. Women die every week in the United States completely avoidably because sex work is criminalised and women like you would rather that happen because you place more on your own feelings about something you’ll never have to experience than to stop supporting legislation that facilitates the rape and murder of sex workers.
You said you don’t support sex workers. You literally said that in those words.
Honey, the people saying this to you are sex workers. Most of us have been hurt in the industry. You are literally telling sex worker survivors that you “care about women who have been hurt, so you really enthusiastically support the legal conditions that have caused the highest numbers of raped and murdered sex workers”. That is what you’re telling us. That is some twisted and terrifying logic right there.
You want laws (criminalisation) that have led to thousands of murdered sex workers rather than laws that have led to zero murdered sex workers. That is what you want, and that is what you are telling people who actually have to live with the consequences of that. And that is fucking terrifying.
I don’t even know what the point of responding to you was, since she clearly didn’t absorb a word you said. what a terrifying little nightmare, and it sounds like she’s old enough to vote. brilliant!
I don’t understand the split that allows people to get this frothy about saving us, but keeps them dead calm and cool [if not utterly silent] when talking about affordable housing, a living wage, state sponsored child care, affordable healthcare, affordable and accessible food, &c. they never spare this kind of passion for the things that really matter. They don’t even drive it into working in shelters or crisis lines. Lady Joel Shapiros of the world, obsessed with non-sexual assaults to the point where they’re pressing for conditions which would make sexual assault even easier and more prevalent1
Dear @feministsnaestheitcs Up yours
♥♥♥
I love how everyone is hitting out at me for not ‘absorbing a word they say’, but they make me repeat myself like a broken record, even after is provide them with sources.
I am old enough to vot, thank god, i fear more for all of you. You look down on me because i think prostitution should be illegal. OH GOD NOW, HOW BAD!
lmao, I’d rather protect the children and women forced into than the ones that apparently think it’s a good idea for it to be legal just so they won’t get arrested because whether it be legal or not, women are still going to get hurt and raped. The difference between it being legalized and it being illegal is that it being illegal, the rates of human trafficking decrease.
glad i have everyone willing to take the time to send anon hate ♥ love all of you. literally bullying someone really does make a point!!! bye.
Dear @feministsnaestheitcs My “hit” had nothing to do with you not absorbing a word. It had everything to do with you ignoring people who are in or have been in the industry saying this is what makes it safe. When you speak out over them it sort of sounds like when the white man used to speak out for all the poor POC who would be in so much trouble if they didn’t step in and run their lives for them. Oh and a very special Up Yours.
<3
lmao “speaking over them.” they only want their asses out of jail don’t care what actually happens to the majority, they see it happen but want those who don’t work to keep quiet because we don’t agree. I have had two speak up for me in my defense when i was getting bullied and agreed with me.
so stop ignoring the problem because it doesn’t make it safer. If that were the case, half the people i know wouldn’t have had things happen to them like how they said it wouldn’t if it were legal and it was legal in the place my friend was and shit still happened.
I’m not talking over them, they are talking over me and turning their heads the other way when i provide them with the truth. I don’t want any of them to be homeless or go to jail, but i definitely don’t want youth and women being forced into it.which is what happens 90% of the time.
It you all who won’t get what i say. You talk over me and what i’m trying to tell you but you don’t care.
@dearanti-sjwsupyours asked me to post this.
Dear @feministsnaestheitcs Not that you will learn but maybe someone in your group/clan will wake up. A. Speaking over. You are not a sex worker, and you have not been one. So when someone who is/was in the sex industry like me speaks and you are also speaking then it is you who is speaking over. I am not saying you have to have been a sex worker to have an opinion, they are like assholes everyone has one, but it is the people who have the experience that should be listened to. If your “two friends” want to speak up please have them do so. POC should not be told by white people how to experince racism Trans people should not be told by cis how to transition or how to experience diphoria. Teachers should be listened to with how to teach. Sex workers should be listened to with the industry. Now lets get to the crux of your post. If all sex work should be made illegal because of trafficking and minors forced into the work, which does happen and is terrible, then let’s also make nail salons, produce growers, and clothing manufacturing illegal. As all of those also have significant numbers of trafficked people and minors forced into them. Do we as society suggest doing that? No we use boycotts and laws to stop the issues not the industry as a whole. Now I do not know which country you are from so I can not talk about the rules where you are at, but let’s talk about America. It is already illegal to do full service sex work in any state but Nevada. Yet we still have sex trafficking and minors forced in the business. Further outlawing sex work will not fix this. In fact laws made by non sex workers to fight this have made things worse. How? 1. Sex workers are targeted for crime, not because of what they do but because what they do is now illegal and this makes it hard or impossible for the victims to report the crime. 2. Sex workers now have to take buses and taxi’s unescorted because if a sex worker’s boyfriend/girlfriend or even another sex worker drives them to work they can be charged with trafficking. 3. Sex workers have to choose between using condoms or going to jail as many cities now use having condoms as reasonable suspicion for being a sex worker. Now I doubt you’ve read this but if so let’s follow the last part of your gross arguments. Women are forced into working this job who don’t want to. Yes. I currently work a vanilla job. Would I rather not work it, my goodness yes, but I am not called a criminal for working. Previously I was in the same job and I had the same hours, but my pay had been cut because of the economy. I was at the risk of being kicked out of my house. So I got a second job. Now my work has me 9-5 and two out of three weeks I am on call. And on the weeks I am not I have my daughter 1-3 nights. Can anyone of you “Liberators” tell me where I could have gotten a second job that would let me work one week out of every three but only on 2-4 nights? Where was a job that would let me work when I was on call knowing full well that if I got a call I could stop my 2nd job for the night do my vanilla job and not worry about losing either of them? Oh and please don’t forget Up Yours,
Hi! I’m a trafficking survivor who started in the industry at 13. Seems you care so much about the people forced into it, let me explain some stuff to you.
I worked illegally underage and under sketchy, barely legal conditions overage. At no point could I actually get police support while workjng under criminalisation, because I was more scared of being threatened with arrest or abuse from the police themselves.
I now work completely legally through brothels. I have been assaulted once since I began working with legal support, and I was able to get police involved. Safely. Without fear. They were incredibly helpful, and specifically sent female officers who had been through sensitivity training to help me through it. I have been able to keep all danger in check by threatening police action when necessary.
As a trafficking survivor, I’m going to tell you now: criminalisation just means victims get arrested more often, not the people hurting them. Laws against trafficking and pimping exist across ALL industries, and laws that protect sex workers by decriminalising our work doesn’t change that.
Reblogging for the last one, skip every instance of OP
According to @feministsnaestheitcs if we make sex work illegal, it won't happen! Holy shit, we should make murder and rape illegal too!
