billionaires on their £200,000 submarine ride to the titanic wreck when the guy moves his xbox controller the wrong way and a window cracks

[image ID: a 3D model of a pink human head rotating and crumpling like it's had the air sucked out of it. end ID.]

everything about this is a shitshow, to the point that I can't even feel bad for the people involved.

  • the sub used nonstandard construction and safety procedures because ~innovation can't wait for a regulatory entity~
  • literally the techbros responsible for this cited spacex as a comparable project (yknow, the company that makes the exploding rockets?)
  • one of these "features" is that the sub is sealed by 17 deadbolts secured from the outside so they literally cannot escape even if it surfaces
  • honestly it's barely a sub. it's a 20ft long windowless capsule piloted via a modified third-party video game controller
  • lots of the other on-board equipment is improvised shit the founder got at camper supply or elsewhere
  • it also used musk's starlink satellites for communication, which may be related to the failure
  • the sole safeguard they had outside of "very strong hull" was about 3-4 days of extra oxygen
  • tickets to get on board this deathtrap ran $250k.
  • one of the billionaire passengers aboard was quoted as saying these are some of the worst weather conditions for a trip like this in 40 years, but they thought there was a decent window to try a dive anyway
  • again. these dudes paid $250k to ride in a 20ft long, windowless capsule, bolted shut from the outside, amid terrible weather conditions...come on
  • the founder of the company that made this deathtrap is also aboard it

literally the kindest thing that could happen to them is that they had a breach and compressed instantly

multiple days in a windowless capsule slowly asphyxiating is a horrific way to go

the chances they'll be found are almost nil. given that it takes 4 hours to reach the titanic going straight down, and contact was lost within 2, they could have been swept away to literally anywhere. search teams have to check hundreds of miles of open ocean surface AND depths exceeding 13,000ft for this 20ft long hunk of jank.

Having your own personal blog is honestly quite a nice change of pace compared to Reddit. I could put a funny GIF of George Bush getting hit by a shoe on here and the worse case scenario is that no one even notices.

You put that on a big subreddit and you get your eyes gouged out and a heap of political discourse underneath your post.

I wanted to propose some rebrands in honor of HBO Max becoming “Max”

Please consider these very serious proposals

I need y’all to see these dumb streaming service rebrands and logo redesigns because I put so much work into them.

"Stop saying 15 year olds with weird interests are cringe, they're 15" this is true however you should also stop saying adults with weird interests are cringe because who gives a shit

To wit:

I want to share some wisdom from my high school art teacher.

In my AP Art class, there was a girl who was just starting to experiment with mixed media. At this point she was still playing around, trying to decide what direction she wanted to go with her portfolio. So one critique day, she brought in an abstract canvas with some rhinestone highlights and painted and real peacock feathers. She loved sparkles and peacock feathers so she thought she’d try introducing them a *little*. And after everyone had given some input, the teacher gave her his advice, VERY roughly paraphrased here:

“So here’s the thing… I do not like this style. These are just elements that do not speak to me personally, but I see that you like them, and you’re doing interesting things with them.

“My biggest critique is, I only merely *dislike* this piece. I want you to make me HATE it. Go crazy with the things that you like. Don’t hold back trying to make it palatable to people like me. Because I am NEVER going to like it. And if the audience does not like it, it should drive them crazy seeing how much YOU love it.”

Her portfolio was chock full of neon colors and glitter and rhinestones and splashes of peacock feathers and it was a delight. Our teacher despised every piece lol, but she got great marks and I think even won some awards. And more importantly, she was happy and proud of the results. Because she didn’t limit herself by trying to appeal to people who were never going to enjoy what she enjoyed.

Takeaway here: be as cringe as you want. Don’t limit yourself based on other ppl’s tastes. They’re not you, and you are incredible 💕
