There’s a lot going on in that little critter’s head right now.

1. Power move.

2. Why do people whisked away to magical worlds just automatically believe the first creature that tells them what side the person needs to help? Where’s my isekai where the MC slowly finds out they got in with like the deranged zealots and are part of the evil faction, and not the plucky rebels?

I think about this comic once per week. It’s funnier then anything I can conceive of. Mastery.

Honestly though, the scene in Incredibles where Dash gets called into the office for putting a tack on his teacher's chair gets 100x funnier when you consider that the teacher almost certainly knows what's going on with Dash.

I mean, he probably doesn't know that he has super speed specifically— "I don't know how he does it!"— but this guy is fully aware of the existence of supers.

This isn't a Harry Potter situation where the muggles don't even know that magic exists— supers were lauded public figures and a key part of the criminal justice system until just fifteen years ago. This dude was definitely an adult and probably already teaching at the time. He may have been expected to include lessons on supers and their role in society in the curriculum.

And while we don't know exactly how supers get their powers, Edna mentions in Incredibles 2 that "it's not unknown for supers to have more than one power when young", so Dash, Violet and Jack-Jack evidently weren't the first people to develop them as children.

This guy lives in a setting in which he knows— with 100% certainty— that there are people out there who are born with special powers that enable them to do impossible things. And, from observing Dash, he knows that what this kid seems to be doing shouldn't be possible for a normal kid.

He absolutely knows this boy has powers. It's the most logical explanation, and it makes perfect sense within the laws of the universe he lives in. He may think that the kid is teleporting the tacks onto his chair, or turning invisible, or shifting reality or whatever, but he knows that some sort of super power is at work here.

The problem is… he can't openly acknowledge it.

Now the supers are in hiding, normal civilians aren't allowed to know of their existence. Even if there is no formal law against it (and there might be a formal law against it), everyone who figures out that their coworker or friend or whatever is a super, and doesn't keep quiet about it, gets black-bagged by a government agency and has their memory erased. There's no way people aren't at least vaguely aware that it's best not to talk about who you think might be a super, because bad things happen to people who do.

When the Principal ushers Helen and Dash out of the room and starts trying to calm the teacher down, he's not doing it because he thinks he's crazy. He's doing it because he's just seen video evidence that this kid is a super, and is trying to keep his friend from being taken away for Re-Education.

Dash is fully exploiting the fact that people like him legally don't exist to pull pranks on his teacher, knowing that the guy can't actually call him out without getting his mind wiped.

Me: our oven takes so long to heat up. It's been thirty minutes and it's still not ready!

My fiancé: To be fair, it's heating to 450. That takes longer than usual.

Me: I don't want to be fair.

Fiancé [immediately]: FUCK YOU, OVEN.

if light just said he was gay and swapped out the porno mags for GAY porno mags he would have gotten away with everything, i believe that with my entire being

“why does he have so much to hide” gay, next question. “why does he act so strange around L sometimes” gay, next question. “why is he so perfect and meticulous” gay, next question.

If the ocean ever disappears DONT GO LOOKING FOR IT… go in the other direction

This is actually really good advice so let me elaborate a bit: if you notice the tide is retreating very quickly at a very odd time of day, get as far away from water and as high up as you can. I live along the ocean and a long time ago we had a small tsunami and a relative of mine tells me how her father saw the tides retreating so he just picked her up and just ran, which probably saved their lives.

So yeah DONT LOOK FOR THE MISSING OCEAN just run away

ocean not lost, ocean is actually winding up to kick you very hard in the nuts.

This thing is called 百宝夹bai-bao-jia.The Chinese used it to store flat items about a hundred years ago. HOW TO MAKE A BAIBAOJIA HERE The video uploader said in old days baibaojia was commonly used by grandmothers to hold small odds and ends when they was sewing the soles of shoes.

Reblogged this without the original description a while ago. 百宝夹 can be translated as hundred treasures folder. Some may also refer to it as 针线包 (zhen xian bao) as it is, as mentioned, a sewing kit.

I found a wonderful pdf tutorial here, courtesy of Paula Versnick. this one makes a smaller book

I sat with a crying second grader today. (The age range is outside my wheelhouse but I was the most convenient adult.) He was crying, the other adults said, because his brother took a phone he was playing on. “Phone addicted,” everybody said. “If he would get up and play games with the other kids he wouldn’t be crying.”

He told me everyone lets his brother take things from him because his brother is younger, and doesn’t know better. He told me he doesn’t want to play because he’s tired, he has too many extracurriculars this summer and can’t get good sleep because “everyone in my camper is so loud when I’m trying to sleep.” He’s exhausted and only eight. His mom’s an acquaintance and told me she and the kid’s father are going through a separation — mom and four kids left the house to stay in a camper.

But people will seriously not listen to kids crying over seemingly minor things because on the surface it looks like a tantrum. If kids are given the space to articulate themselves they often will.

I’ve found that if a child is capable of having a conversation (that is, old enough to speak and express themselves, not injured or upset so badly that they literally cannot stop crying, and not behaving violently), then 90% of the time their reason for being upset is legitimate, or at least understandable.

Please remember that this also applies to teenagers and preteens, they might be acting like a knowitall who doesn’t give a shit, or a first class jerk, but chances are fair they feel like shit for one reason or another and adults just chalk it up to teenage angst instead

With NASA announcing their streaming service NASA+ and also announcing it’s going to be free and also ad free, I’d just like to appreciate the lengths they go to make scientific knowledge and exploration as available as they possibly can.

Joseph Ducreux, a French artist renowned for his unconventional self-portraits, could never have foreseen the astonishing popularity his artwork would achieve in the 21st century as internet memes.

NOTE:
Joseph, Baron Ducreux (26 June 1735 – 24 July 1802) was a French noble, portrait painter, pastelist, miniaturist, and engraver, who was a successful portraitist at the court of Louis XVI of France.
He resumed his career at the conclusion of the French Revolution. He was made a baron and premier peintre de la reine (First Painter to the Queen).
He drew the last portrait ever made of Louis XVI before the king's execution.
