the thing is young people have a very skewed idea of what constitutes 'a long time' bcos they were recently children. like when you're 21, ten years ago you were 11, which is a massive massive gap in terms of maturity, life experience, you name it. but once u hit your 30s looking back 10 years is just like. yeah 2013. that was last Tuesday i'm pretty sure.

when you're growing up a year ago you were a whole different person but once ur an adult you run into a friend you haven't seen in over a year and it's like oh hey what have u been up to. oh nothing much. yeah me neither. well, see you next year!!

i think of this whenever i see a toddler on the ground weeping like they’re having the worst day of their lives, because it either actually is or it’s up there with the day their parent told them they weren’t allowed to microwave their hand.
