Somewhat disappointed to learn that Anna Wintour went to the Met Gala with Bill Nighy, not Bill Nye like I originally thought.
Hey y'all, I'd appreciate anyone from the UK signing this petition to allow trans/nonbinary kids to stay closeted from their parents if they're out at school. It's obviously very important that children be able to keep potentially dangerous information about their identity away from their parents, and explore it safely in a school environment.
If it reaches 10k votes the government must respond, and 100k means they need to debate it, but any votes are good for raising awareness and profile.
If you're not from the UK please share this so others see it
I love Wangxian, but props to Wei Wuixian because personally, if someone ever took the attitude with my family that Lan Zhan approached them with, I'd have an aneurysm.
Like, I understand the guy is protective over his husband, who did die for a good few years, but Wei Wuxian literally carved out a part of himself for his brother, and Jin Ling is his beloved sister's son, I can hardly think of anyone he'd value more outside of his own husband and child
I love Lan Zhan, but I could never. Like, there is one person allowed to be annoyed by my family and that is me, you were not given that right via marriage.
I'm not a Jiang Chang anti, but with everything Lan Wangji has seen and knows about that man, it would be more concerning if he let him near Wei Wuxian. We can see that ultimately he respect wwx wishes though, and never stops him from going to jc.
not me becoming obsessed with a cartoon that has a dead fandom and doll line ToT
i'm finally watching dragon games and i know apple white is an extremely contentious character in the fandom, but... i gotta admit that i feel bad for her, even if i don't think her actions are wholly excusable. the scene where the evil queen threatens her at her vanity, it kinda broke my heart. like, at the end of the day, she's a teenager put in an extremely stressful position with pressure put on her from all sides. i can see why she'd break under it and make mistakes, especially when her mom is the way she is.
Wei Wuxian would absolutely vandalise a wall with inappropriate drawings and then write 'Jiang Cheng was here' underneath. And it would absolutely not work.
“I can fix him” okay but I can fix the narrative. I can recontextualize events and bring out depths of character. I can shift priorities and strengthen relationships and show that anyone can change with enough kindness and support, and that what you admired in him has been inside yourself this whole time.
my toxic trait is that I cry at sitcoms
Moments silence for sure
sigh
“And he was my monster, too.”
And I'm supposed to cheer for the toxic childhood friend who is afraid of her power, wants her to go back to being 'normal' (she was born a Grisha, she was never 'normal') so he can be the 'man' and have power over her, who doesn't understand her and who went a day later after an argument kissing another woman?
It's so stupid I'm laughing. Also, Mal can piss off for separating them in the cathedral even after he was told to go, I wanted to murder him — he doesn't respect Alina's choice, what a great guy!
Also, the Darkling is always described as 'beautiful' and 'perfect' by Alina. I screenshoted every time shr describes the Darkling as that. Here's a fun fact — she does it way more with the Darkling. Mal is never described with 'beautiful' or 'perfect'.
You give me a boy with shadows and girl with sun, literally yin and yang, they are the only ones of their kind and you expect me not to ship them? It's literally... The logical choice? They're both immortal? And equals? And both are Grisha? The normal folk will literally never understand them.
How does the author look from between the guy who understands her and isn't afraid of her success/power and the guy who wants to push her down and can't handle watching her succeed be more powerful than him and think "hey, the second one is better?"
American authors are weird.
And yet, American AO3 authors write better than the author of the books. So... Clearly they understood the assignment.
What was the problem here?
Oh, what am I talking about? It depends on a person. Some are meh. Usually the mehs get to publish a novel of yin-yang and end up botching it while the brave, brilliant writers can just watch as the coward completely butchers the themes.
Smth about how HE WAS OVER 100 YEARS OLD.
Look Mal might not have been the best at all. But the darkling was using her, he only cared about her power. Lying to her so that she only know what he want her too, so that she is under his control. It's not even subtext this is the whole arc Alina goes through when he's grooming her.
I don't even care about Mal, but romantacising the darkling?
how will i twist this into being about donald glover’s inevitable return
I've read MDZS 4 years ago but still the whole process "Lan Wangji fights his elders for defending Wei Wuxian. After the fight, he takes wwx off to the Burial Mounds, where the other Wens are still there and pratically doomed. And then he leaves them and returns back to Gusu for accepting punishment of his act, and he knows the punishment would be a sentence of death, more or less, but he's ready to pay the consequences", there this whole journey "attacking/not staying/coming back" doesn't make sense to me. It only makes sense because the author needed Lan Wangji alive for wwx's second life. But if I try to search insight on the characters' motivations and logic... I see this choice just as a weak plot device. I mean, where the fuck were you going, Wangji?? If you are ready to die for justice, you should have stayed at Burial Mounds! (Yeah I know he couldn’t, but just for plot reasons. On an emotional level, I don't get this sequence of events)
Maybe I'm not reading perfectly between the lines, so if someone has other opinions - good or bad, but please do not fight - please let's discuss!
I've always wondered about this too, and my personal interpretation is that LWJ was trying to respect WWX's will. Think about it: WWX has been more or less pushing LWJ away ever since he returned from those 3 months in the Burial Mounds, and even in that scene before LWJ is fighting the elders, WWX keeps telling him to go away and doesn't seem to listen to him at all.
WWX has constantly refused LWJ's help (which is what LWJ meant with the whole "Come back to Gusu with me" business) and he obviously cares about the Wens and the Burial Mounds settlement a lot. So, LWJ brought WWX back there because he knows that's what WWX wants.
(Link this with the "I want to bring someone back to the Cloud Recesses... but he is not willing". No matter how tormented LWJ is over WWX's new form of cultivation and every change that came with it, he never inserts himself in WWX's life and respects his boundaries!)
Why didn't LWJ stay in the Burial Mounds? Because he probably believed WWX didn't want him around.
Where else was LWJ to go? Becoming a rogue cultivator/a runaway is out of the question since he is very high profile and the Lans would hunt him down and enact punishment on him anyway. Plus, he's not a coward to just do something like that, he is strong-willed and with a high sense of justice.
While I don't think LWJ regrets injuring any of the 33 elders, he probably recognizes that what he has done is deserving of punishment at some level. He is a very fair person, after all, and unlike his sect counterparts, he truly understands the spirit of the rules and why they're necessary.
That's my 2 cents anyway! 😁
May I 2 cents to add to this as well?
LWJ probably (rightly) assumed that the worst he would face would be the discipline whip, the Elders wouldn't kill him. He was, at the time Lan Xichan's heir and with them still recovering from a war, and everything still unsettled, it would be risky to the Lan sect to kill him, not to mention they would have admit why he was killed and the Lan Sect wouldn't want to lose and of it's precious reputation and respect it had with the other sects. (Unless of course they lied by omission with is also a possibility)
Basically LWJ gambled with his life, believing that the Elders, his brother and uncle would do what the could to reduce his sentence all so they could save face and keep their standing as the "Righteous" sect.
To me there are 2 ways this could have gone down, one is that they simply overpowerd and knocked out LWJ, which is unlikely because they did not also capture WWX, even though he was at his weakest point.
I believe that after a lot of fighting Lan Wangji made a deal with the elders, he would go home and face punishment on the condition that they leave Wei Wuxian alone. The Gusu Lan clan were not part of the final siege where the yiling laozu had a qi deviation. This was what LWJ did in order to buy time to let WWX heal.
happy ending (っ˘ω˘ς ) 💐
