To be perfectly honest, the only real way to learn a language is to live in the country. I realize that is not always possible. I lived in France and with only a small knowledge of the language I became almost bi-lingual in 6 months. Whereas in later years I lived in South Africa and found it difficult to learn Afrikaans as when encountering a problem i reverted to English (S.A. being a virtually bi-lingual country). People also used English when they knew I was English speaking.
