The ICWA is not a hypothetical. So many Native people have lost aunts, uncles, cousins, and siblings to the foster system. So many people Native people are disconnected from their cultures and tribes because their parents or grandparents were stolen from their families. So many Native people, even under the ICWA, were removed from their families and placed into foster care.

So many children today, right now, are being removed from their families, tribes, and cultures.

All it takes is one generation to kill a community, to kill a culture. We've lived through this before. We're still living through this now. We know firsthand what it means to lose our children and we know what will happen to us, to our families and our tribes and our cultures and our bonds with each other, if the removal of indigenous children from their families becomes the law of the land again.

The entire case being brought against ICWA rests on the argument that tribes are not nations, but racial categories.

Even if this wasn’t “just” important to prevent genocide, i.e., destroying over 500 tribal nations by stealing their children right out of their homes on the flimsiest pretext, or “just” important because of the absurdly high rate of abuse for Native kids placed in white homes, the argument they’re making is being backed by major interests in oil and mineral extraction,

because what they want is to take away Native nations’ sovereign status by declaring them to be a racial/ethnic category instead of nations with whom the U.S. has a treaty/diplomatic relationship.

But also, even if somehow THAT wasn’t the case, if ICWA is overturned but by some miracle our bought-and-paid-for Supreme Court judges issue a ruling that dismantles ICWA while not explicitly declaring Native people to be a racial/ethnic category (instead of, again, sovereign nations, which is what they ARE), I return your attention to the above. This will hurt so, so, so many kids and families. Native kids are incredibly likely to be neglected and abused in non-Native families. Even kids who aren’t abused still suffer severe emotional and psychological tolls because they’re separated from their relatives and their culture.

I pointed this out in a Discord server I'm in and thought Id share here:

Bob Iger announced that Disney is going to absorb Hulu, and Hulu will no longer exist next year. All shows will move to the Disney+ app.

Disney also announced they were going to remove shows and movies periodically from their streaming services.

I believe both of these moves are because of the Writers Strike.

Disney knows its going to lose the strike. There is too much public support. Specifically, the WGA is going to win writers getting more residuals from streaming.

So if Disney takes shows off of streaming, they dont have to pay the writers the residuals.

They are going to use excuses like "not enough funding for the server capacity" or "not enough views to warrent keeping the show". These are BULLSHIT. Its all greed. Its only GREED.

Pay attention to what happens in the following weeks.

And keep supporting the writers' strike.

This is similar to what happened with HBO - new owners merged two streaming services, and all of a sudden there wasn't enough server capacity for all the shows somehow. A total lie.

Time to start downloading EVERY Hulu show. Hoist the colors high.

And yell at your congresscritters about antitrust laws.

Download everything that isn't a major franchise. If its name isn't Marvel, Star Wars or The Simpsons, assume it's getting canned and get a copy in as high quality as you can store. Eventually your copy could be the only one.

This.

This is especially true for the weird stuff you’ve never heard anyone else mention. Lost media is a tragedy regardless of what it is.

But don't take a random tumblr's word for it, here's a verified source

gerard way in an olive green tshirt that makes their hair look particularly grey like OUUUUGHHHHH I NEED YOU SO BAD

The fact Gerard turned off the ability to tag him in ig posts right after dressing as the nurse in Detroit - with the additional knowledge that heychris was hanging out with them backstage - is the foundation for my otherwise baseless theory that there was a conversation at that table which went like this (again, in my head)

Heychris: I see you deleted all your ig posts

Gerard: yeah… if only I could stop people tagging me in posts

Heychris: you can! Let me see your phone

The other day, I went down the rabbit hole of "cute donkeys" and came up with my head full of things I didn't know about mules (the hybrid offspring of a horse and a donkey), and why they were once so coveted as work animals.

Brace for info dump, while enjoying this lovely photo of a trio of draft mules.

The explanation is hybrid vigour, when hybrid offspring have enhanced traits compared to its parents:

Mules are stronger, hardier, healthier, have better enduranve, harder hooves, sturdier skin and can handle extreme weather better than horses or donkeys. They are also more patient, more intelligent, and easier to handle than either of their parent species. Horses may be faster, but that's about the single thing they're better at than a mule of the same size.

So mules, being all around nicer to work with and getting you more work for the same amount of feed, and with less hassle, were preferred for just about every job purpose.

Habby du Magnou, a Poitevin Mulassier mare, and her daughter Lady du Magnou, a rare Poitevin mule

But since horses have 64 chromosomes and donkeys have 62, mules end up with 63 chromosomes, which means they are almost invariably sterile. That's because biology gets very confused when trying to split an uneven number of chromosomes neatly in half to create germ cells. There are a few documented exceptions of fertile mule mares (never stallions), but they are very, very rare. So you have to keep crossbreeding the two parent species to produce them, usually by breeding a donkey sire (jack) to a horse dam (mare). This is because it's easier for a 32 chromosome egg to incorporate a 31 chromosome sperm into a viable zygote (fertilised egg) than vice versa.

Because of this, there was (and still is) in France a breed of absolutely massive draft horses, the Poitevin Mulassier, and a breed of big-ass donkeys (pun intended, but honestly, it's arguably the largest donkey in the world, and it's shaggy like Highland cattle), the Baudet du Pitou, two breeds whose main purpose was to breed the enormous and super-strong Poitevin mule.

The Poitevin mule

This absolute unit was the must-have work-animal for all kinds of farm and industrial work for centuries, and a significant French export, until mechanisation made these magnificent creatures obsolete.

With no demand for the Poitevin mule , its parent breeds dwindled, almost to the brink of extinction. Determined conservation efforts during the last few decades are slowly bringing their numbers back up, but they're very far from their heyday, when some 20,000 Poitevin mules were born annually.

The Poitevin Mulassier

Both the parent breeds are still endangered, which means most of the current effort is directed into bringing up the numbers of Poitevin horses and Pitou donkeys. This means breeding horses to horses and donkeys to donkeys, with very few breeding opportunities allowed to produce the Poitevin mule. Only about 20 of those are born each year.

Here’s some pictures - they’re so damn pretty!

How could you not include the scientists reaction to the trail cam footage

the truth of the matter is that there is no correct way to gender me, except that i can always tell when an instance of gendering comes from a place of love & a willingness to engage w my gender identity. so in the end, every relationship i have w every person i am close to has different boundaries with regards to language & if i am close to you we will inevitably develop our own gender shorthand. and this is wonderful for me

like people say they have a secret gender they take out like fine china when someone who Gets It is around (and i do have a persona i put on around cissexuals by default) but for me, i have slightly different table settings for everyone i love. because the way i experience gender is malleable & social

I made this last year when reading Dracula Daily, but I was too much of a coward to post it. Now I am no longer held back by earthly matters such as "reputation".

This is the original text from the book, but wildly misinterpreted. enjoy
