FYI Reform Jews do not need to know that non-Reform Jews disagree with how they've interpreted we approach Halacha, we know. Non-Reform Jews won't let us forget and feel the need to bring it up every single time they acknowledge our existence. It does nothing but show you fundamentally do not see us as equal to other Jews, even if you aren't conscious of it and think you're being respectful or kind.

honestly

when it’s not comments, it’s jokes made at our expense. when it’s not jokes made at our expense, it’s insults. when it’s not insults, it’s exclusion. when it’s not exclusion, it’s scorn. i could go on and on.

i’m tired of seeing the hatred of reform jews. we aren’t your enemy. stop treating us like one.

Mhm. The number of times I see Reform Jews blamed for gentiles not understanding Judaism's many nuances is ridiculous. The majority of the time the ideas they're complaining about aren't even Reform stances, the rest of the time they act like actual Reform interpretations and practices aren't even "real" Judaism because it doesn't line up with their movement. Like in America, Reform Judaism is the majority, of course people know more about it. If it really meant that much to these people, actually educating gentiles about non-Reform movements would go a long way to dispel what they claim is "misinformation". But they don't, they just complain about how Reform Jews are doing Judaism wrong and hurting "real" Jews.

absolutely. thank you for this addition.

i still think it's weird that having a carrd or a rentry is expected of people as if sharing your personal information is a normal thing on the middle of the internet where nobody will know you that well anyways

like i enjoy both of those sites but not for that. i don't want people to know deep information about me on the internet and the only reason i used to enjoy doing so was to fit in and not be seen as secretive or hiding something or whatever. like you're on tumblr / twitter / etc. you don't need to make a resume for it

i completely forgot those websites could be used for things other than what the internet expects you to use them for

you have opened my eyes to a world of new ways to get everyone into my hyperfixations oh my goodness

I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION IT DEPENDED ON THE QUOTE'S PUNCTUATION. LIKE UM.

AND THEN HE ASKED ME, WITH THE ODDEST LITTLE LOOK, "WHY THE HELL WOULD ANYONE DO THAT?"

VS

WHAT DID YOU THINK, WHEN THEY SAID "DOORKNOB IS A BEAUTIFUL NAME FOR A BABY BOY"?

i’ve heard that you always put the punctuation in the quotes! but i’m not an english teacher so to be honest i don’t exactly Know for certain!

I cannot begin to express how calming it is to listen to The Oh Hellos. You’ve most likely at least heard of Soldier, Poet, King by them, if you haven’t listened to it. But honestly, I think there should be more appreciation for their other songs too! Songs like Rounds are so beautiful and just resonate straight with my heart. I was just listening to them and was so moved that I went to write out this post because honestly, I just want to express the overwhelming emotion welling up in me right now.

something Very Very satisfying about the current split between 63%, 3%, and 33%.

i use dark mode on everything… except tumblr

idk why

i tried switching to dark mode once and then i screamed in pain and anguish for change is truly my greatest enemy

I Am Not Your Asian American Doll: a comic for AAPI Heritage Month 2023

I usually spend a lot of time editing and fine-tuning my comics so that they come across as polite and inoffensive. But honestly, I’m really tired of the way Asian cultures and countries are treated / talked about while Asian people themselves are excluded, and thought it was about time I really let my rage out lol.

Short survey for nonbinary people about NAMES

Please click here to participate! I will publish the results. Also please tell your nonbinary friends about it, let's get several hundred thousand participants so we can once and for all find out the quintessential Nonbinary Name™️

Notes on privacy:

  • I won't publish the full spreadsheet of results, I'll only publish the list of names entered more than once, in order of popularity descending, so that people with unique names won't be outed.
  • The name question itself is optional, and there are other helpful questions to answer, so it's still worth taking part even if you don't want to tell me your name.

how to participate if you have two separate chosen names with two very different histories in two very different languages?

Your tags: #sorry #it’s just the choosing of my english name #and the choosing of my hebrew name #were VERY different processes #and have different answers to the questions provided

An unfortunate thing is: this is the first time I've done a name survey, and I often find that I mess up when I do a survey about something for the first time (trial and error survey design!), and this time I messed up the first question by assuming that most people would have one name that they prefer above all the rest - and by the time I realised how badly I'd messed up, it was too late to change the question/answers. 😫

So I'd recommend answering with your favourite name in mind. But I do understand that people might not have one name they prefer over the other(s), and I can only apologise and promise to do better next time.

Maybe if it is exactly 50/50 on preference or it's like apples and oranges, you could flip a coin? Horrible though, I know. :S

It’s less a deal of preference and more that in my culture, every individual has two given names. One in English and one in Hebrew. Would it be possible to complete the survey twice, once for each name?

Anonymous asked:

how did you choose your hebrew name (if that’s not too personal of an ask)?

as a prospective convert who is genderqueer i’ve been wondering about gender neutral(ish) names

I was originally named after my great grandfather. They switched the gender of his name to align with the one I had been assigned at birth. When I changed my Hebrew name, I was blessed by my Rabbi and selected his original Hebrew name. I thought, if anything, that would be a great honor to him, especially considering the guilt I had for changing my English name to one unrelated to his.

Fear not o brave soldier, for a great and powerful wizard has visited ye. Receive now hys gifts and may thine pain diminish.

*hands you an ibuprofen*

My perils great and mournful, my journey long and lonesome, finally have been put to end. I shall know pain no longer. It shall be no more a kin to me than a stranger I have seen but once, long, long ago. You, bespoken, come to me with gifts made in the knowledge of my torment, and I have no words but thanks to offer for your kindness.
