Twiggling in Astonishment

Taryn, 25, lazy geek, serial lurker. I like superheroes, books, happy endings, pasta, and all combinations thereof. Thanks for visiting!

Can you guys help donate? She decided to keep the baby, but her husband didn’t want to and left. She needs all the help you can get.

It doesn’t matter what side your on, by the way, since a baby is involved you shouldn’t let your ideological view blind yourself. Thanks. If you can’t, don’t like the post, just reblog!

I personally am not religious at all but I've always tried my best to respect those who are and I think it's pretty lovely that you have something like that to help you feel safe and comfortable!

I hope this doesn't come across as demeaning but, I kinda find it interesting?? to have that sort of blind faith and belief is just interesting and kind of neat to me I suppose

I don't understand but I'm happy that you have something like that to keep you up in trying times :]

I'm glad that you feel that way! Also I'm not offended lmao you guys are all really friendly and I don't think you want to offend me so I will always take it that way. I am going to clarify something but I'm pretty sure this isn't what you mean so just for passersby~

my life became immeasurably better once I moved to the south and discovered 1) warmth and 2) sushi burritos

me the entire way through the falcon and the winter soldier

these are great character moments but steve is still alive. he’s still somewhere, just old and retired. why are they acting like he died. why is the shield bucky’s only family when steve is still somewhere. why are they not consulting him about all this stuff. he’s just old. he can still talk. they’ve gotta know where he is and there’s literally no reason he can’t text them. IS he texting them or calling them with weekly updates about Retirement Life and they’re just like “sometimes I can still hear his voice” or what. I know chris evans is out, I know we can’t see steve, but they’ve established that he’s still there somewhere so why is everyone acting like he’s dead. hey, here’s another great character moment, but it would make a lot more sense if they weren’t acting like steve is dead. this entire show is built around discussing and dissecting the captain america legacy so WHERE IS--

people really love to say “no one is pro abortion” and I’d like to clarify that I’m very pro-abortion. I think abortion is good and we should make it super accesible and easy.

I know what age we’re living in and the mindsets of the people in it, and stuff like this still manages to blindside me.

“Based on my arbitrary standard for what constitutes a real human life, I think that actually getting rid of all the ones that don’t meet my standard is Good and we should really be doing it even more often.”

We can’t point to a single time in history when destroying human lives we deemed as subhuman ever turned out to be morally justified. Future generations will judge us harshly for this.

it baffles me how any person can claim to be for any form of suicide prevention and also be for euthanasia or PAS.

like, just be consistent. just be clear. by supporting euthanisa or PAS, you are agreeing that there is a point at which, if living is difficult, it would just be better to die. (unless, i guess, you are young and/or able bodied, in which case It Gets Better!). so, like, own it. no “every life is worth living”. no “if you need a sign not to do it, this is it”. you cannot say “suicide is never the answer” and then make it an answer!

what you are actually saying is, some lives are worth living. some lives are not worth living. the ones that are, don’t commit suicide. the ones that are not, it’s fine.

Furthermore, being against suicide is to be against bodily autonomy. Yup. “My body, my choice” seems to only apply when your friend wants to have an abortion, not when they want to die, right? If your friend is on the edge of a building, saying “I can’t live like this anymore” and you really believe in bodily autonomy, let them jump.

No? You would rather grab them from that roof and say “this thing that seems so hard can actually be overcome with help and support, you are not alone, you do have choices but do not end a life over it”? Then apply it across the board. Admit that radical and unconditional bodily autonomy is false, that there are instances where bodily autonomy should not be honored because doing so would be violence. Instead, grab those women and say “this thing that seems so hard can actually be overcome with help and support, you are not alone, you do have choices but do not end a life over it.”

i disapprove strongly the narrative some tumblr blogs are taking that says: “if you voted for [candidate] unfollow me!”. accepting diversity of opinions is intensely important in today’s society, and the lack of this is what’s causing the intense polarization of american citizens

this post upset some of my now ex-followers so i’m going to reblog it again.

evil grows in the dark. civil discourse is the sunlight that burns away ignorance and exposes evil so that it may wither and die.

i’ve changed a lot of people’s opinions on topics that are very important to me simply by talking to them politely. i’ve had my own stances altered in light of civil conversations with dissentingly opinionated people. i’ve had people hate-follow me only to later tell me they changed their minds on some stuff because of me. if i spat vitriol at those people instead, they’d be dug even deeper into their ideological holes. we have to talk to each other. it’s the only way forward.

so, insofar as whether people are “allowed” to follow me, i don’t care if you follow me, i don’t care if you unfollow me. i don’t even look at who comes and goes on my blog. the only thing i ask for is civility.

More favourite tropes:

  • “Unfortunately, [thing that would ordinarily be described in much stronger terms than ‘unfortunate’].”
  • “Fortunately, [thing that is in no way fortunate].”
  • “Unfortunately, [thing that would be fortunate in nearly any circumstance except the particular circumstance at hand].“
  • “Fortunately, [very minor benefit that absolutely does not offset the considerable drawbacks of whatever just happened].“
  • “Unfortunately, [the exact, word-for-word thing that somebody just expressed that they hope won’t happen].“
  • “Fortunately, [complete non sequitur].”

And may I add

“Fortunately, [thing]. Unfortunately, [the exact same thing].”

God is good when your heart hurts; when the questions are heavy; when you don’t understand; when the answer feels like it’s never going to come. His goodness is not based on your circumstances but on the unchanging character of who He is. you can lean on His steadfast love and care for you. know that even when your world is seemingly spinning out of control, you can rest in this unchanging truth: God is good, and He is still good even when life is not. He is bigger than all things, He is holding every moment of your life in His hands, and He will always glorify His Name in your circumstance.

Things are strange and should be terrifying right now, but I’m not really terrified. I genuinely do not know what God and life have in store for me and my loved ones up ahead--everything feels loose, vague, uncertain and open--but, on a day-to-day basis, in my head and in my relationship with God, this is a good spot to be in. Until the next storm hits, I know. But things feel okay. Manageable. I’m glad to be where we are, right now, and there’s a measure of peace about whatever happens next. I think the next thing might be soon--there are those ominous chords of music hanging in the air. But right now is good, and I’ll take it.

I appreciate everyone on here who’s ever posted something that was funny or interesting enough to make the day a little better, and I hope everyone is staying safe--no matter what you’re worried about staying safe from. Keep praying, if you’re inclined to, and if you’re not, I wish you’d reconsider it. This is a good time to make some eternal plans. Have peace.

White couples that adopt non-white kids

Right, because everyone knows we should keep the races as separate as possible. Separate but equal, isn’t that what Democrats were always trying to tell us back in the 60s? All those fun Jim Crow laws were so fun :-) And of course you should never take a parentless child into a loving home if their skin color doesn’t match yours. That’s just common sense.

I swear SJWs are the single most racist group I have ever had the misfortune of interacting with.

Apparently the OP was an actual, honest-to-goodness white supremacist, but there’s still a whole lotta SocJus blogs backing them up in the notes.

Black supremacists and white supremacists actually have a lot in common.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: critical theory and identity politics is Naziism with the races switched around.  That’s all it is.

There are *still* thousands of “woke” bloggers in the notes agreeing with OP, apparently not even giving a shit that the OP was an actual literal white supremacist
