Trigun gang but cowboys! For now they're using the same colors as my Cowboy Monsters but I might play around with other colors. I want to find a way to give Vash his signature red coat.

If you have a color palette suggestion do let me know! I'm planning to self-fund these by the end of the month.

palette suggestion (sourced from Pinterest) but the sky should maybe be a darker teal than this so the stars stand out?

The link suggests those rules are for influencers and content creators ONLY, so those who would presumably profit from doing promotions.

That is, the promo could be considered work, and thus crossing the line.

Even more specifically, this applies if you are in the SAG-AFTRA union as an influencer, or plan to someday be in the SAG-AFTRA union. If you're just a random civilian who has a day job in IT and has a cosplay channel for fun on the side, you aren't officially affected by this.

Avatar

Yes, that, exactly.

Scabs get paid or otherwise compensated to do work that union members would be doing if not on strike.

Your side-blog/con cosplay/ fanart/fanfic is not that.

The language is confusing because SAG-AFTRA wrote their guidance for the audience of people who could potentially scab, rather than as directions for the general public.

Neil Gaiman confirmed this was a troll.

SAG-AFTRA themselves says otherwise, as applies to influencers.

Like idk the original link to the tweets definitely makes it clear that this is applying to influencers and the like and the anon in the screenshot is not talking about the same thing (saying "any" online content implies to me that they saw the final screenshot in isolation rather than as part of the thread, or at least didn't read it carefully)

Okay, yes, I understand what you’re trying to say. But the way you phrased it makes it sound like you can’t Cosplay at all, and that’s what people in the tags are taking it as. What they’re saying is you can’t take money for cosplay. That’s crossing the picket line.

What people are suggesting is a boycott, which once again, SAG-AFTRA has actively discouraged. A boycott shows there’s no demand for writers and actors, but they want a lot of demand and no writers or actors to make new content. What people are taking this to mean is that you can’t make fan content, and that’s actively counterintuitive to the strike!

“Neither union has called on supporters to stop streaming their favorite shows or going to movie theaters — they don't consider such commonplace activities to be crossing the picket line, the Washington Post reported.

The actors union has said, however, that it considers a content creator or up-and-coming actor taking a job that would normally be filled by a union member crossing the picket line.

And if they do fill those roles, it may come back to bite them in the future. ‘Any non-member seeking future membership in SAG-AFTRA who performs covered services for a struck company during the strike will not be admitted into membership in SAG-AFTRA,’ the union's strike notice outlines.”

(so from what I understand, the picket line blocks professional content creators/influencers - people who earn money from cosplay - from taking jobs and money that would/should have gone to striking actors. afaik, it therefore does not apply to hobbyist cosplayers?)

truly my LEAST favorite form of advertisement these days is the faux-tiktoker/influencer who is here to Sell Me Something. the “omg unbox my Pureology (TM) skincare haul!!!” “doing the #NespressoChallenge!!!” “you guys will not BELIEVE what i got from shein-“ like its scary. its WEIRD. not only do i have no idea who these perfectly manicured, babytalking people are they feel less like real people than even an actual advertiser does. stop trying to make me believe you are my friend. you are something inhuman to me. you are a changeling. you are a brand wearing ill fitting human skin and i see its skeletal shape shift beneath the surface.

This chart is amazing! Thank you so much!

Seasonal foods are regional, too. Hit up your local farmers markets and just buy what you see that looks great. I can’t speak for them all, but my local farmers markets take EBT. But also, I understand that’s not an option everywhere—just offering it as an idea.

Our son Sam has told us that the D&D art file we use for a screensaver on various devices bothers him.

Because it makes him frustrated that he can’t look at some of them longer. He wants to know what is happening in some of them.

I told him that is one of the reasons we play Dungeons & Dragons, so we can go find out together, in our collective imagination.

Not really D&D related- but I feel compelled to add to this that not only are these GORGEOUS pixel arts- they are also in fact not animated. There are no frames used. There’s no extra pieces of art. Just one layer.

These pieces are so old that they stem from a time where animating cost way too much memory and/or only 256 colors could be used at one time, so the motion is achieved by ‘color cycling’. Half the available colors would be reserved for that very color cycling. It’s mchecking bonkers, please go watch this video if you feel like learning the technical details of how these artworks were made! They were screensavers that would match the actual time of day that you were in. Somehow. Just by cycling color palettes. Wild shit.

(Especially relevant time stamps for color cycling: 5:50, 9:55, 37:26, at 49:54 he gets into the technical side of HOW this even works)

Yup.

I’ve always enjoyed how they depicted some of the landscapes at different times of the day/weather/season.

Like these two areas. Daytime and nighttime at the village by the waterfalls.

And the high mountains hidden by rain in one and visible in the other.

yall r gonna post a man's entire portfolio of art and not give credit?

anyways these images are by mark ferrari, a color cycling pixel art master, you can check them out in their html color cycling forms, with sound effects and ability to change the time of day of the image, here and here

Just a heads-up since I know a number of people were waiting for this:

Trigun Stampede’s dub is up on Hulu!

ETA: THERE ARE SUBTITLES FOR THE DUB!!!

I love that Nightow wrote this impactful, moving story about love and grief, with some of the most compelling characters out there, and just lovely artwork… and then named it Trigun because the main character has three guns

#FR ???? #but wait where’s the 3rd gun??

The Guns ™ @reddish-wren

Trigun 98 really is the anime of all time. It did absolutely say "Here is the biggest idiot you've ever seen in your life. It's going to be four episodes until he does anything that is not blindingly moronic and it's going to be five before he says a sentence that is not a lie. We are now going to vaguely imply that he has a dead girlfriend and that's why he's sad. You will learn ten episodes later that the dead girlfriend is his mother. In episode nine a random man is going to call him depressed and they will spend the next three episodes doing absolutely nothing important but forming an unshakable bond of friendship, and we are also going to learn that they are in space."

What are we supposed to do with any of this. Insurance agents with fifty guns and one gigantic gun respectively are the only reason we have a plot at all. An entire episode's resolution only makes sense with information we are never told and barely implied. The main character is Jesus but also a deconstruction of Jesus. I feel like the show is giving me a rabid guinea pig and leaving me to wonder why this guinea pig is on crack before telling me three hours later that he's a robot guinea pig, answering no questions and raising so much more.

Do every retail employee a favor this Thanksgiving/black friday: stay home.

Just want to remind you that there’s a fucking pandemic and I mean this post 100x harder this time. If you show up you die.

Also to all the people who are saying just shop online or do cyber Monday, why do you think it’s better to shift the burden to warehouse and shopping workers! Everyone who says that shit should have to pack trucks for a week

I agree with this very much! The exception though, is definitely small business, like Etsy. As an Etsy seller, the Christmas season is absolutely vital to live off of, and many Etsy sellers prep through the year for the Christmas boom. The last Christmas boom I had, I was finally able to purchase a car after years of not having one.

So it’s okay to shop online, but consider *where* you’re shopping online. Small businesses on Etsy for example, LOVE the Christmas boom! After all, if you don’t want to sell during Christmas, you just shut down your store.

^^ plus a bunch of Etsy shops (mine included) are participating in an extended cyber Monday sale Nov 18 - Dec 1 !!

One of the most life-changing things I ever learned came from Mythbusters, where they tested and proved (with cognitive testing puzzles and reaction time tests) that lying down and resting with the intention to sleep STILL provided significant mental benefits over just staying awake, even if a person couldn’t fall asleep in the amount of time they had.

It helps me to actually sleep to know that just lying down with my eyes closed is still doing me some good, and helps me to not freak out/beat myself up when I stay up later than intended. Any amount of rest is better than no rest!

So if you didn’t know that…now you do

do you know that i think of this post every time i can’t sleep op. what mythbusters did for you, you have done for a great many others.
