Massive fuck you to everyone who is talking about Palestinians as if we’re already all dead and sharing more solidarity with our corpses than us living. “We will never forget the beautiful Palestinian people-“ how about you stop “making peace” with Palestinian extermination. My people are not going to be forgotten because we are going to live. Palestinians have already survived one genocide and have been surviving one ever since.

Do not ever let the idea that all Palestinians are going to die exist in your mind. Mourn the dead, fight like hell for the living.

people need to realize that what’s going on with palestine and israel isn’t about anyone being jewish.

there are jewish palestinians, muslim palestinians, christian palestinians being trapped in what is essentially an open air prison for children and the elderly with no food, water, or electricity just because they’re palestinian.

this is about colonization, and unfortunately so many people are falling for the blatant propaganda being turned out by an apartheid government (israel).

the only solution to stop all this violence is to give palestine their land back. that is the solution.

while y’all are advocating for a ceasefire - and you should be - we need to keep centered that while a ceasefire is necessary to stop the current genocidal attacks and get the food, water and medical supplies that palestinians urgently need to them as soon as possible, we CANNOT stop there.

a ceasefire is an important step that MUST happen but we cannot let it be the end. the world cannot turn away. because as soon as we do, israel will restart their genocidal campaign. a ceasefire is step one, but we MUST end the occupation. palestine MUST be free. there is no other option.

so please do continue to advocate for ceasefire, to protest and call your representatives demanding that they support it, but if it happens, do not become complacent. we cannot stop until the occupation ends and palestine is free.

Divine Intervention (2002, Elia Suleiman) يد إلهية

Suleiman offers an indictment of these audience members as well.

A young French tourist approaches an Israeli policeman looking for directions. The policeman doesn’t know the way, and so he enlists the help of his Palestinian prisoner from the back of the van. Bound and with a blindfold over his eyes, the Palestinian offers three clear ways for her to get to Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulcher. There are two ways to read the scene. Both reveal the political anger brewing just below the droll surface of the gag. The first is simply that the Palestinian knows this land so well that he can give you directions while blindfolded. While the Israeli cop has no idea where to go. He is a foreigner here too. He may have political and military authority, but he is not truly of this land, while his prisoner is.

The second interpretation is the indictment of the apolitical audience member. We can visit Israel as tourists (or visit this film as a sort of cinematic tourist) gaze at the wonderful architecture, eat the food, enjoy the beaches and the lovely weather, all while turning a blind eye to the near century of racist exploitation, disenfranchisement, and genocide occurring right in front of us. It'd be all too obvious if we’d bother to simply engage beyond our own immediate pleasure and convenience.

Both of these interpretations are effective. Both are true. But the tourist is the one who allows this continue indefinitely. She witnesses injustice and chooses comfort.

some dipshit uploaded my book to an AI site, so suffice to say, I will fucking kill them

emailed my agent cuz our contract states she has to protect me from shit like this, so we’ll see what she says

but I will still kill these ppl

LMFAO THE SITE IS BEING TAKEN DOWN

hey so, just so there’s no ambiguity about what just happened– this was about Prosecraft, a website that would help you compare your writing to your favorite author by analyzing the “vividness” of the words used, passive voice vs active voice and the number of adverbs used in a given section.

unfortunately, the service is dogshit for various reasons but that’s not the issue here.

the issue is that the website had trained an AI on 25,000 books, one of which included mine. and i definitely did not give anyone permission to use my work to train an AI. it’s literally stated in my contract.

and if i didn’t give permission–i can imagine quite a number of authors didn’t give permission either. (oops, i don’t have to imagine–because hundreds of authors came forward and said they didn’t give permission either!)

so i emailed my agent about this. my agent directed me to my publisher which has a legal department that looks into piracy on this scale. all of those authors did the same, emailing their legal team, getting The Authors Guild involved.

EVERY AUTHOR pretty much roasting this guy named Benji Smith on Twitter for claiming to “support authors” yet clearly using pirated work to train an AI.

of course, he decided to take the website down. authors are now talking about getting AI protection clauses in their contracts going forward. i already have one with my agent, but I imagine I will have to get it instated into every publishing contract moving forward.

“The backlash became severe enough that Smith was, reluctantly, willing to give authors an out. He asked those writers who wished for their work to be taken off the site to email him. But that was an egregious mistake. Why should authors have to request their work be taken down when he never asked them for permission to use their art this way in the first place?

And it wasn’t just mid-list and debut authors on the site. The works of Stephen King, Nora Roberts, Neil Gaiman, Angie Thomas, Terry Pratchett, John le Carré, and more were all part of this database, too.

Predictably and understandably, the backlash became worse—The Authors Guild even got involved—until finally Smith relented and published a statement saying he would take down the Prosecraft website in its entirety.”

From the article OP linked! Source: The Mary Sue. Article date: August 8, 2023

Very heartening to hear about a shitty pirating AI tool actually being taken offline entirely for ripping off artists. First time I’ve heard of that happening, personally!

I'm not a psychology researcher, but my guess would be that the nature of it being a time-limited puzzle game where you have to juggle multiple factors means that your short-term memory gets filled and the traumatic images are "dumped" in favor of remembering how many times to rotate the L piece. "As soon as possible" is probably because the sooner you do it, the less likely it is to become part of your long-term memory.

If that is true, then other time-limited activities where you have to remember and plan in a tight time frame may serve a similar purpose.

No, I'm not kidding. And no one knows how or why it works. But it Does work, and I encourage you to remember it. Lest people think I'm kidding: (insert links shown above)." End ID.

no but you see!! eleanor and flint share their backstories with rogers and silver respectively like “this is the worst crime that was done against me, you are the only person on earth i’ve told about it” and then those two just go and do That Crime to them. like with rogers and eleanor it is obviously the raid, and with silverflint it’s the taking of flint’s entire life from him and have it told differently, falsely, the removal of his ability to be the narrator of his own story.

There's a turning tide for Palestine in public support. Support for Israel was built through decades of propaganda and we are making a dent into it. Zionists are desperate, holding zoom meetings to promote zionism, but we have to do so much more. We have to shame people in power into supporting the Palestinian cause.

Keep yourself updated and share Palestinian voices, looking to inform yourself from the sources. Palestinians have asked of us only that we share, tweet and post, over and over. Muna El-Kurd said every tweet is like a treasure to them, because their voices are repressed on social media and even on this very app. Make it your action item to share something about the Palestinian plight everyday. Here are some resources:
Take action. You can participate in boycotts wherever you are in the world, through BDS guidelines. Right now, they are focusing on boycotting (don't be overwhelmed by gigantic boycott lists. Only boycott additional brands if you can):
If you can, participate in direct action or donate. Palestine Action works to shut down Israeli weapons factories in the UK and USA, and have successfully shut down one of their firms in London. Some of the activists are going on trial and are calling for mobilizing on court.
Call your representatives. The Labour Party in the UK had an emergency meeting after several councilors threatened to resign if they didn't condemn Israeli war crimes. Calling to show your complaints works, even more if you live in a country that funds genocide.
Join a protest. Here's a constantly updating list of protests:
Here are upcoming events:

Feel free to add more.

Need to be old and a hater for a second. Someone tell the kids to stop making “fancam”s and start making full blown AMVs again. I am Being deprived.

No more 15 second loops CUT IT OUT. I need the full song. AT LEAST a minute and a half. I need the Sony Vegas Adobe After Effects filters and editing. I need voiced lines spliced into the video for impact. This is an ART FORM. COMMIT.

This post came across my dash back in October and I got an ulcer from reading it because from my standpoint, there are always so many new vids out here. All the time. I understand the sentiment, tho' because I love me some full length vids a lot, but fancams are great for different reasons. The rise of fancams is a whole different post (and something people have ranted/discussed avidly in the replies/tags). Instead I’ve decided to share some ways you can look through a few platforms for full-length fanvids. 🎬 Take my hand and I'll show you where to find what you want. ❤️ This post is not meant to be exhaustive, but a starting point (and I encourage others to add where they’ve found their favorite vids!). There are many new vids being posted every month for cons and exchanges and everything in between.

A Guide for Fanvid Discovery Tumblr + Tags

AO3 Tags + Searches

The 'Fanvids' tag seems to be the most common tag that vidders have been using since we got the ability to embed video on AO3. 14,000 results is a lot, so you can narrow that down through AO3's search feature. Fandom and character/relationship tags will go along way for you:

You can also use the 'any field' to search for the music in addition to a fandom + fanvids and narrow down your search that way. Vidders don't always put the musician/song in the tags but they will in the notes or text part of the AO3 page.

Alright so maybe you don't want to go hunting with searches for new vids. You want the soul-affirming vids NOW. Consider this an AO3 Collection/starter pack where you will find many vids that are +3mins in length and will change your life:

AO3 Collections for Cons and Exchanges

Convention Databases

  • VidUKon Conline (often will have embeds/links to vidder's posts)
  • Vividcon Vid Database (might require some googling to find vid posts/embeds because this database has a lot of old vids, but you can download spreadsheet form of vid playlists to help you google later)
  • Fanworks Vid Database (so many playlists! waiting for you to watch!)

Other Resources

  • Vidding on dreamwidth (vid announcements/end of year roundup posts)
  • Vidding on discord (over 200 members who are brilliant and funny and make great vids and know how to look for source, will always have a vid rec for you and teach you about frame rates and export error codes. Vid announcement posts+ao3 feed, cheerleading about finishing a new vid for the upcoming conventions...)
  • Multifandom Calendar - (this is a calendar/list view of upcoming cons and exchanges that accept vid premieres. Resource collated by VidderAdmin. Note the dates and keep your eyes out for the con-goers vid posts on social media.)
  • Vidding Conventions Twitter List (also collated by VidderAdmin, similar to the calendar, just a collection of all of con accounts on twitter)
  • How To Leave Feedback on Fanvids - (by me @kuwdora - I wrote a guide to beginner/intermediate/advanced feedback for fanvids. But really just leave any kind of positive comment for a vidder and you'll feed them for years.)

I know once I hit post I'm going to remember all the things I forgot to include here..but like I said before, this is a starting point for discovering new-to-you fanvids that are longer than 30 seconds and will speak to your soul. I left out YouTube fanvid discovery on account that's a whole bag of algorithms I wasn't ready to dig into here. Find a vid you love? Like, reblog, scream in the tags. Write a comment. Write the vidder an email if you can find their address. Write a rec so people know what you’ve been watchin’! Then other people can see it too! Make a playlist, share a playlist. ❤️ What are you watching? What have you found? What tags are you finding and browsing on other platforms to find fanvids?

the thing is like. i get that it's scary and makes people who do desire to get pregnant uncomfortable when we talk about the brutality and violence of pregnancy and the damage that pregnancy can do to your body

but you deserve to give informed consent to that process.

the lies around pregnancy - that it's inherently safe, that it doesn't do you permanent damage, that it's only extremely rare for people to die of pregnancy complications, etc like

all of these are lies constructed so that more people will get pregnant w/o knowing all that

there needs to be more talk about the impact of miscarriages and how common they are, how different abortion processes are and how accessible they are

but also like. talking about how pregnancy fucks your body up should not be taboo

this is a process that permanently changes most people's bodies, and that's even if the pregnancy doesn't do them like. severe illness or injury

and i just think everybody should have a right to KNOW that

bc to live in a society that intentionally obscures and hides facts about a completely optional and dangerous process does so for a reason, and that reason is based in a very sinister ideology that does not value bodily autonomy or informed consent

the number of people who are pregnant and don't know about what induced labour entails and what post partum bleeding is horrifies me

Here is a story about the depths to which pregnant people are seen as a vessel for a baby, and the importance of finding prenatal care that assumes you are a human and not a baby holder:

When I was pregnant I was in a million forums for pregnant people because (cough adhd hyperfixation) and I had something called SPD (Symphysis pubis dysfunction) (not Sensory Processing Disorder though I also have that) which is where your pubic bones separate early (more or less) because they get all loosey goosey as your body gets ready to crank that baby out.

Except my pubic bone got confused and got misaligned at like 3 months pregnant. I could barely walk. I couldn't roll over in bed. Doing something that required me to shift my weight from one foot to another like opening a door knob was like an excruciatingly painful knife being stabbed into my pubic bone, I can't express how intense and blinding it was.

So I am in one million baby forums like "am I dying what is happening why is there a knife in my pubic bone" and all these people are like "I have that too! my doctor says it's normal and not to worry because it doesn't hurt the baby. I just deal with it by laying in bed for months in excruciating pain and think about how lucky I am to be having a little miracle growing in my body."

So lol nope. I went to my midwife and they are like, "Oh squeeze a can between your knees look up a physical therapy youtube on SPD" and I did that can-squeeze thing and it CURED THE PROBLEM in ONE DAY. I had been SUFFERING, y'all, it felt miraculous.

And I was so full of rage (flames, flames on the side of my face) that people are being told "Oh, it's NORMAL just deal with it" "It doesn't hurt the baby." Like, look, yes it's NORMAL but it's 100% treatable!!! SPD (again, not Sensory processing disorder) affects 1 in 5 pregnant people.

I was lucky to have amazing midwives (need a gender neutral term for that profession, but they see pregnant men and women)(side note highly recommend midwives if you are gender nonconfirming/a man/etc) and I have DOZENS of examples of shit like this.

(Another example is post partum friends being like "oh I am peeing my pants 900x day after giving birth" and my doctor says it's NORMAL so I just dealt with it for decades. My midwives were like "Oh that's normal and also physical therapy cures that in like 2 sessions")

When my sister was looking to get pregnant she was given the best advice. She was told that being pregnant is an experience akin to being in a moderate sized car crash, in terms of risk and lasting injury.

Some people in moderate car crashes are very lucky, and walk away with zero injury. Some are very unlucky, and die. But most people fall into the third category, where they'll be injured at the time, then heal, and then for the rest of their life they have some minor and liveable complication from the injury. Like a knee that lets you know when the rain is coming, or a back that doesn't like seats without lumbar support, or a shoulder that never quite gets its full range of motion back.

The vast majority of people survive and thrive, like. But their body is never the same again. And people should know that when they make the choice of whether to put their body through that or not

Felt that it’s important to share videos like this too.

The world wants us to forget that they are people.

People who dance and play and smile just like you and I.

And it's important to share things like this, to remind them the world that they are human.

After the hospital bombing, I finally heard back from my grandmother and confirmed that several of my relatives were murdered by Israeli bombing. Seven of them, to be precise. Three are still going, including her. We've been talking constantly ever since.

Asked if it was possible to head south, and was told they did but were also bombed there. So they decided to go back home, in Zeitoun. Their home was bombed and they were pulled out of the rumble, then driven by ambulances to the al-Ahli Arab Hospital. There were people in every corner. Gazans sheltering, sleeping on the floor. Gazans dying on the floor, waiting for beds.

Four were declared dead on arrival, three were in need of surgery and other three were just bandaged. Then, a bomb was dropped in the parking lot that made parts of the ceiling collapse, like Dr. Ghassan Abu Sittah reported in that horrific conference/interview. Those in need of surgery died.

By the way, just in case you didn't know: the Church of Saint Porphyrius, the third oldest in history, bombed by Israel a few days back, was located near the hospital.

When looking for new shelter, they saw schools with signs hanging outside, "We can't take any more families." They met families, sympathetic but already sheltering too many people. They're now staying in an apartment building they found empty. Sleeping in the corner of the living room. If the family comes back, they'll apologize and leave.

Told me she was saving her phone battery for when the bombing stopped, and she had to ask for help to rebuilt the neighborhood. But she doesn't think it's gonna stop anymore. The ones still with her are mute most of the time, like they're saving energy, but she feels lonely and wanted to talk. There's no internet and to connect to WhatsApp, people are buying "a card from the supermarket, there's a password and username." Not sure what she meant. Still, the internet is inconsistent and won't load neither videos or images nor pages, so she doesn't know what's happening on the outside world.

Told her there were a lot of people protesting to stop the genocide, she replied, "The bombings are getting worse by the day." The bombing yesterday was the worst she ever witnessed. The entire neighborhood is infested with the smell of death, of decomposing bodies. Bodies are piling up in the streets and she's not sure if it's because they ran out of places to store them, but most of them are in bags. The smoke of the bombings hide the blue sky—she hasn't seen the clouds for a while.

Asked if I could share their pictures, names and dreams with people and was told, of which I partly agree, "they're not entertainment." If anyone genuinely cared, they would be alive—I'd argue there are people who do care, but I'm not gonna lecture her pain. And they don't deserve to be used to fulfill someone's sick fantasy. Told me to remember what some Israelis do with pictures of dead Palestinians. And I do.

For those of you who are not familiar, many times before settlers got together to celebrate the murder of Palestinians. For one, in 2015, Israeli settlers set a house in Duma, West Bank on fire. An 18-month old baby, Ali Dawbsheh, was burnt alive. Both parents later died of wounds and only a 5-year-old, Ahmad, survived, although severely injured.

Two celebrations of their murder are widely known, one at a wedding and others outside the court in which two were indicted for the terrorist attack. In the wedding, guests stabbed a photo of the toddler, Ali, while others waved guns, knives and Molotov cocktails. Israel's Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, was present.

That's what happens in an apartheid. Palestinians are so abused by authorities that their "innocent civilians" come to accept the brutality as necessary or are desensitized by our suffering. After all, it's been 75 years—get used to it!

So I won't risk the image of my loved ones, in fear they are used in these kinds of depravity. I will say, though, the world lost a young footballer. Lost a female writer and an aspiring ballerina. Lost a kind father, who was also a great cook, and a loving mother that enjoyed sewing and other types of handicraft art. Lost a math teacher and a child that wanted to become one.

People think Israel is testing new weapons on them. There's civilians arriving at the hospital with severe burns, which they thought was from white phosphorus, but apparently the pattern is different from the one caused by white phosphorus. It's widely believed Israel tests weapons in Palestinians.

Jeff Halper, author of War Against the People, a book on Israel's arms and surveillance technology industries, said: "Israel has kept the occupation because it's a laboratory for weapons."

They've ran out of drinkable water and the "aid" Biden sent was only for the South of Gaza and no fuel, for hospitals, was allowed in. Many shelves in the supermarket are empty. She said many are convinced that if they don't die from the bombing, they'll die from starvation or dehydration, or whatever disease will develop from the dirty water they're drinking.

Told me all people do now is pray, cry and die. Told me she hopes West Bank is spared. Told her Israel bombed a mosque in West Bank and dozens of Palestinians in West Bank are being murdered by settlers, so she bided me goodbye.

Israel completely leveled approximately 25 multi-storey apartment blocks today, by the way. Which I feel like, maybe, perhaps, might come under the banner of "collective punishment such as the demolition of houses."

We don't even have the figures yet for how many apartments there were in those buildings, but we know there's none left. And we know that the people inside were only given half an hours notice to evacuate, and that the evacuation notice was sent via an alert to their mobile phones.

Gaza has been without electricity for nearly 2 weeks now. Israel has also been bombing communications towers.

How many people in those apartment buildings had a) a phone that was on and charged enough to receive the notice, and b) the reception required to receive the message?
