sitting anti-kink posters down in front of a wrestling match and explaining kayfabe to them with the patience of a preschool teacher

You see that one? He's called the "heel." He looks mean and says a lot of scary things, but it's not real and he's actually very nice. When he says "I'm going to break you in half" you don't have to be scared because it's pretend. These two talked about this beforehand, and now they're playing pretend together. Can you think of any other situations that might be like this?

no that part was real

Yeah sure! So the paper is “I’ve got to put one side aside if I want to enjoy it”: Pornography, Perceived Reality, and Pornography Viewers’ Negotiated Pleasures by Kris Taylor (Springer link)

Today I assembled an adjustable bed and didn't punch my mother in law even one time even though she was an unendingly bitch monster who not just couldn't be nice or stay silent while I slowly cleaned her bathroom, did her laundry, made sure she had on clean and fitting clothes, and for her medicine for her.

She instead insulted my appearance, personality, my own housekeeping, and abused me of trying to break her dishwasher.

Also my mother got drunk and cancelled lunch again.

So now that every single visit and care giving behavior is finished. I'm going to take, like, 4mg of Delta 8 as a part of my unending plan to find the amount of it that makes for optimal productivity

In the law, there's this idea called the "last clear chance" doctrine.

If you are in an accident, and you had the last clear chance to avoid the accident, then you are, at least in some portion, responsible for the accident.

For instance, if you are driving and a car pulls out in front of you, and you could've slammed on the brake but do not, you're responsible for that, even if the turn the other car made was illegal. Moreover, you might be held partially responsible for the other person's injuries, depending on how things work in your location.

This is even true if you can merely mitigate the damage. If you have a chance to limit the damage -- again, let's say you don't brake and the result is a collision at 40MPH instead of 10MPH -- the additional damage you cause could be considered your fault.

To me, this seems very applicable to voting.

The two parties in the US are going to put a couple of candidates up in the next few months. Both of them might be dangerous. But in the end, everyone who can vote is going to have one last, clear chance to avoid, or at least mitigate, damage.

It sucks that both parties are out there driving like maniacs.

But the fact of the matter is, they've put us in this position. And if you don't put on the brakes -- that is, at least mitigate damage -- you are responsible for the additional damage caused.

In the national elections, a choice not to vote for Biden is a choice not to brake when some jerk pulls into your lane. And if there's an accident and a lot of damage -- to voting rights in general, to reproductive rights, to the health and safety and life of trans and other queer people, to education, to the environment -- then you are responsible for not attempting mitigation.

You have the last clear chance to minimize danger and damage. And while you can yell until you're blue in the face that the Democratic party put you in that position in the first place by not running another candidate, you are still responsible even if you try to abdicate that responsibility.

Why are we acting as though the options HAVE to be trump or biden, we could vote for another candidate. This is not a black and white issue.

Assuming that Trump gets the Republican nomination, and Biden gets the Democratic nomination, what third-party candidate is going to make a significant difference in the national election as anything but a spoiler?

I am once again going to share that there is something called a contingent election for those not aware.

If no candidate gets a clear majority of electoral votes (more than half), then the House of Representatives decides who the president is. We lose our votes entirely. Obviously no third party candidate is making it through this stage when we have no third party representation at all in Congress…. but it is even more unlikely the results would align with the popular vote.

Even if a third party candidate can get 40% of the vote, they still lose. Even if a third party candidate gets 40%, Biden gets 40%, and Trump gets 20%…. Trump can win. And likely WOULD win.

Our system is not capable of electing a third party president until we rework it. And continuing efforts to rework it will be 10x easier if Biden is elected than if Trump is.

Not even in the top ten, but still more reasons why we need to completely rewrite the Constitution

What lunatics are voting no?!

I like the crust on but also do what you want the world is on fire and 14 families are dooming us all to allow climate death. Little joy is all we have

The Road Goes Ever On embroidered by seejor.

“After 100ish hours of work, I’m so happy to say this beast is done!!
For the most part, I had an idea that I thought would be cool, drew it up, and transferred it to fabric (here’s the hoop pre-stitching). Prior to this piece, I’d only done florals – some from patterns I bought online (Namaste Embroidery) and some of my own design – so really I just wanted to see if I could embroider a dragon. I hadn’t been embroidering long but was feeling ballsy.
So that’s the pattern… as for color choices: the mountain, clouds, fog, and trees were entirely a product of I’d bought a bunch of floss I thought was pretty and kind of went together and figured why not give it a try. I love how the mountain came out. The gold for the text was my favorite gold I’d worked with in a sunflower piece (I have an entire floss organizer of just shades of yellow because of that piece, so the gold pieces pretty much just followed). Smaug’s colors and pose in general were inspired by an illustration of Smaug Tolkien did that I’ve always loved.
Process in general: I kind of made most of it up as I went along. I knew what effect I wanted in various sections and if I couldn’t figure out a way to make it look the way I wanted with stitches I knew, I’d go googling. The pile of gold Smaug is on is all seed stitch (I don’t know if it’s technically seed stitch, but that’s what I’m calling it) and literally caused me to set this piece down for two years.
- the implement I used to transfer the design was a Sakura Gelly Roll white pen. In a pinch, the gel ink can be removed (like when I edited out the two other mountains)
- I wore a reasonably high powered, rechargeable headlamp for a lot of this project in an attempt to have my stitches be as precise as possible. It ain’t pretty, but it worked pretty well!”

Okay so I just watched a video of a boy who once identified as trans still got bottom surgery after he realized he was cis and people were so fucking rude? Like just because this cis dude has a vagina people were calling him transphobic and wishing death upon him.

So this is a reminder that when we as a community advocate for bodily autonomy and gender surgeries that means everyone regardless of gender can do whatever they want with their bodies.

If someone who is cisgender wants top/bottom surgery THEY CAN GET IT. If someone wants facial plastic surgeries that we usually find creepy like buccal fat removal or eye lifts THEY CAN GET IT. And here’s the really controversial one but if someone wants to do things that harm their body like hard drugs or diy mods THEY CAN DO IT!

Because body autonomy isn’t just “I can get bottom surgery to pass” or “I can get an abortion” it’s also all the wild stuff that makes us uncomfortable and that’s okay.

Support cis people getting bottom/top surgery. If it’s available for everyone it helps everyone who needs it. Just because they don’t specifically identify with another gender doesn’t mean they can’t desire to have a body with different sex characteristics.

Life is hard enough people should get to live in whatever body they want. We live in the future. There is no excuse for hating on people becoming more comfortable. You aren't conservative you're just hateful

Dustin is confused about why a dog keeps begging to be let in by his window every night. And really, the dog is too big to be a dog, but it looks like a golden retriever with soft brown fur. And well, his mom doesn't like it, so Dustin takes off the screen to his window and lets the dog in that way each night.

The dog sleeps at the end of his bed like Dustin is his person. But in the morning, the dog is always gone, only leaving some fur as proof it was ever there.

It stays that way for months until the third go around with the Upside Down. The dog doesn't appear at Dustin's window and he's terrified something happened or that when Dustin had been trapped under the mall, far from his house, that the dog had tried to see him and he didn't answer. It keeps him up at night until almost a week later, the dog is back.

Dustin let's the dog in instantly and hugs the wild animal, and it rests its head on top of his. The dog curls up ready for bed and it's the first night he sleeps the whole night through since the 4th.

Only the dog doesn't come back the next night or the next. And as the week drags by Dustin fears for his friend. Up until the point Max sighs, "I couldn't sleep last night. There's this dog that keeps barking at my window." She groans and leans against Lucas. Dustin sees the way Steve and Robin tense up off to the side.

"What kind of dog?" Lucas asks, "because the same thing is happening to me."

And Robin clears her throat. "Same." And suddenly the whole party is curious.

Max shrugs, "I don't know, big? Like a huge golden retriever if the golden retriever was on steroids."

And Dustin's mouth falls open. "No way- that- that my dog." He splutters and feels eyes on him. "That's why- he only ever calms down if you let him in. He showed up at mine a year ago and just kinda kept coming back."

"Weird," Steve chokes out and suddenly looks really interested in the floor.

But Dustin ignores him in favor of talking with Max, wondering why he never brought it up before.

I'm reading some "dark romance" because reasons.

A lot of people have recommended "[The Life of] Anna" as a series, because it is supposed to be very dark M/s stuff.

It suffers from the common issue of all 'secret society' stories, from porn to John Wick. Specifically the common issue of taking your eyes wide shut-esque shady secret society to improbable to impossible extremes.

In this case the secret society 'brotherhood' has elders who have absolute power, magical rituals, estates full of people who are a space caste who never leave those places, and ritually identifying marks. In this case, piercing, and I'm my case, the line past which my suspension of disbelief couldn't go.

Because these special identifying ritual piercings done to identify brotherhood and slaves and all...

Are done with a piercing gun.

Like from Claire's.

And imagining a robed bro in a ritual setting getting ready to sacrifice a goat and induct some magical sex slave shenanigans, and then whipping out a piercing gun... I just cannot.

I just want to remind everybody

Leverage gave us a middle-aged couple who impetuously fell into bed and had hot passionate sex, then cleaned up their acts emotionally before committing to each other in marriage.

Leverage gave us a young black man gently, wisely courting a non-neurotypical blonde white woman.

Leverage gave us a young black man whose two white male best friends both describe him as the smartest man they’ve ever known.

Leverage gave us a guitar-playing country boy, an ex-hitman and army vet, who puts his life in the hands of a geeky black man and his blonde girlfriend (till death do them part).

Leverage gave us Parker, Sophie, Maggie, and Tara; it also gave us female villains with as much cunning, ruthlessness, and agency as any man’s.

Leverage gave us villains who were rich, powerful, greedy white people who had to have just a little bit more, and a clever, cunning, usually compassionate, occasionally terrifying white guy who beat them at their own game and robbed the rich to help the poor.

Leverage, gentlefolx.

Leverage also gave us a black man who was the computer nerd and not the muscly grunt.

Leverage also gave us an Alpha Male™ who unashamedly loved to cook, despite it being a classically feminine skill.

Leverage also gave us a discussion about faith, which was not used to bash the atheists for being non-believers, and was not used to bash the theists for not believing in science. Leverage gave us an interfaith relationship between a Catholic and an atheist.

Leverage also gave us a small, sexy, blonde woman who was not used as a sexual object, who was never told she screwed up when she couldn’t play that part, and who developed not into the sexy distraction, but into the team leader.

Leverage is amazing.

Leverage showed us an autistic woman surrounded by people who understood what she was, and didn’t try to make her change more than she was able to. Leverage showed us this woman grow and change AND FAIL and succeed. Leverage showed her grappling with emotions she didn’t know how to handle, and while not pretending this didn’t make her a pain in the ass to be around, didn’t make her the villain for being insecure.

Leverage showed us a man who fell in love with her including-and-not-despite the crazy, and showed that man recognize that he didn’t need to push.
