I guess Dave Cullen missed this police statement (and the dozens like it) from kids admitting that they had bullied Eric and Dylan. Bullying isn’t justification for murder but for Cullen to claim that it didn’t happen or was minor shows just how dishonest his account of the Columbine tragedy is.

I recently found out that Jim had ordered the cyanide well before November 18, 1978. That means that there was no spontaneity in the deaths during Congressman Ryan’s visit — it was all staged. I want to know who helped, since I know Jim was drugged and mentally ill. I want to know how we all got to that point that our involvement with a crazy man made us crazy too. I want to know why Jim wasn’t stopped by people close to him and who saw what was happening. It doesn’t change my dream of what Peoples Temple could have become. It does change how much I blame Jim and those who enabled him to take everyone with him. It was not a final act of a single crazy person. I have often quoted, “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely,” and I use it in reference to Jim. But, it wasn’t only Jim. It was those around him who grew bold with importance. And, I am afraid that I am no different than any of them — not smarter, not dumber, and not more or less perfect. I saw notes that we all wrote over our years in Peoples Temple. In some ways the best was brought out of us, in some ways the very worst. What could I have done? It is very scary to me. I truly want to be self-righteous and say I would or could never… But I knew the people surrounding Jim so well. They started out with good intentions, as I believe Jim did many years beforehand.” - Laura Johnston Kohl, Peoples Temple member (1970 - 1978).

Columbine survivor Austin Eubanks found dead at his home in Steamboat Springs, coroner confirms

Austin Eubanks, who survived the Columbine High School massacre and inspired others to overcome addiction later in life, was found dead at his home in Steamboat Springs overnight, the Routt County Coroner confirmed Saturday afternoon. He was 37 years old.

Routt County Coroner Rob Ryg confirmed to Contact7 investigator Jace Larson that Eubanks died either late Friday night or early Saturday morning. There were no signs of foul play, Ryg said.

An autopsy will be performed Monday morning to determine the cause of death.

Eubanks was 17 years old when two gunmen entered the library at Columbine High School and killed 10 people inside.

Eubanks, who was having lunch with friends in the library, was shot in the hand and knee.

A rare photo of Timothy McVeigh with his grandfather on the day of his high school graduation in 1986. McVeigh’s extreme and dangerous obsession with guns began in childhood when his grandfather brought him along for target practice sessions.

Kacey Ruegsegger

image

Birthday: March 29, 1982

Location (during shooting): Library

Shot by: Eric Harris

Injuries and Wounds: shot to the shoulder

Kacey was in the library reading a magazine when the shooting began. When the call went out for everyone to get down, Kacey hid under one of the small tables in the southern bank of computer tables, and pulled a chair in front of herself. One of the gunmen stood in front of where she was hiding and told everyone with a white hat to get up so he could shoot them. They then shot an acquaintance of hers, Dan Steepleton.  When they shot Steven Curnow who was hiding under the computer table next to her she put her head down and covered her ears with her hands. She was then shot in the shoulder and when she cried out, Eric Harris  told her to “quit your bitching”. She lay down then and pretended to be dead.

She suffered multiple injuries including a gunshot wound to the right shoulder, a through-and-through injury to her right hand that medical officials pulled a metal washer out of, and a gunshot graze on her neck. They pulled a shotgun wad out of her shoulder. At the hospital she was given at least two doses of morphine and was still in quite a bit of pain. A steel plate was put in her arm and she went through lengthy physical therapy. She was released from the hospital on May 1, 1999.

She went on to attend Colorado State University and had hopes of being an American Quarter Horse Association chapter champion in Denver once more, like she was before the shootings. As of April 2006, Kacey is fully recovered and happily married with 4 children.
