🛰️Welcome to my Blog🛰️

⭐️I guess I should introduce myself so Hello there⭐️

🚀•I will attempt to summarise myself as fast as possible. My name is -redacted- but I go by she/they pronouns, or anything I don’t really mind. I’m an autistic 19 year old who loves science (especially physics) and Mathematics. I work as a teaching assistant and I just have this huge love of learning. Also I will talk to anyone and everyone about fantasy stories, especially Lord of the rings so you have been warned•🚀

🛸•The main focus of my blog is writing about the people in stem who are not really spoken about in a class room environment. There’s so many brilliant minds who go unheard of and are under appreciated.•🛸

TERFS, Bigots, Racists don’t bother interacting, you’re not welcome here

Once again I find myself urgently needing to advocate for using a slug as the official mascot for mathematics: math slug. We need something, and a slug is just like a mathematician: it works slowly and deliberately to produce a slimy residue of fascinating insights as it crawls across bountiful fields in order to feed on vibrant mathematical structures. I've made this banner image that you are free to embed into your papers in order to encourage the use of math slug more widely, and also to convince reviewers that your paper is good.

I got tagged by @pions for this game

Tag 10 people you want to know better @that-bitttch @bookish-tardigrade @limits-and-derivatives @aurorasoleil @cyeayt @idesinfection (No pressure tags <3 )

favourite colour: Yellows and Greens there’s something just so joyous about those colours

Song stuck in your head: giving into the love by aurora, I enjoy the part where she goes laaa la laa la la la laaaaaa and it’s always in my head

Last song you listened to: Possession of a weapon by Ashnikko, I’ve been working through some stuff that makes me feel angry and upset and turns out Ashnikko is providing the soundtrack for this stage of my life.

3 favourite foods: The lasagna my dad makes, any type of pasta salad and my great aunts potatoes

Last thing I googled: Computational Complexity, I was making a post about Dorit Aharanov. before that the last thing I googled was “is 8 pints a lot”, I know nothing about alcohol and I was trying to figure out how much my boyfriend drank at a folk festival.

Dream Trip: literally anywhere, I’ve never left the UK which is depressing but due to life circumstances I’ve never been able to. I know id like to go to Cyprus since my family is from there.

Anything I want rn: a full night of decent sleep.

Dorit Aharonov

Dorit Aharonov is an Israeli computer scientist specialising in quantum computing. She graduated from Weizmann Institute of Science with an MSc in Physics. She received her doctorate for Computer Science in 1999 from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and her thesis was entitled Noisy Quantum Computation.  She also did her post-doctorate in the mathematics department of Princeton University and in the computer science department of University of California Berkeley. She was a visiting scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study in 1998–99. Aharonov was an invited speaker in International Congress of Mathematicians 2010, Hyderabad on the topic of Mathematical Aspects of Computer Science

Aharonov's research is mainly about quantum information processes, which includes

mathematicians which would you prefer:

pi is a constant equal to tau/2

d is a theoretical constant i just made up equal to 1/e

h is a theoretical imaginary constant i just made up equal to -i

i->-i is the only nontrivial homomorphism of the complex numbers so it basically changes nothing; that gets my vote.

you know the thing where nt people are like “autistic children are bad at Play because they just take toys and line them up :/” those fuckers. don’t understand. how satisfying and fun it is to put things in an order and then behold them

“Bad at play” not my fault you don’t know how fun lines are debra

BITCH

NOT TO MENTION the fact that the prohibition against direct images in Islam was actually the reason for the development of the incredible advances in higher mathematics of the Islamic Golden Age because they were required to create these structures. The Islamic World basically took the ban on images as a “hold my beer” thing and created an entire artistic culture based on mathematics and architecture where art and science fed into and glorified each other, 700 years before the Italian Renaissance.

In conclusion

i will say that islamic art drove me nuts as a kid because i did not have the math knowledge or capability to create such geometric patterns. it may have been the art of my people but by gOD it was difficult and unnecessarily difficult. however my pride in islamic art is neverending. it was frowned upon to be vain in the house, so artists would deck out the places of worship - but places of worship couldn’t be too garishly decorated, or it might detract from worship! the compromise? calm blues and greens, intricate details hidden into the complex patterns. carefully mapped out and planned patterns that were beyond complex and straight into deliberately confusing and practically impossible to replicate. not only that, but verses from the Quran were hidden along the walls, asking god for blessings and care.

muslim art is stunning and i’ll fight the bitch that says otherwise.

Also something underappreciated about the Islamic art is that not only is it geometrically incredible, but the geometry and structure of it has a purpose. In the niches and ceilings, the cascading ornamentation is used for acoustic purposes. In many of the mosques, they are so well laid out and designed that a single person standing on a specific spot can speak/sing/pray and be heard in every single part of the building.

On Saturday, just prior to the publishing of the “partygate” report- 3 Tory MPs, Nigel Adams, Nadine Dories and Boris Johnson himself all resigned.

Which honestly is nearly as telling as anything that will be in the report.

And will at least give Sunak a nice headache to deal with.

Nkechi Agwu

Nkechi Madonna Adeleine Agwu is a mathematics teacher, tenured faculty at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, part of the City University of New York, and was a director of the college's Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Scholarship. In 2009.  Agwu served a term as New York City branch president of the American Association of University Women, with an agenda of encouraging girls and women in STEM fields and of improving health in minority communities. In 2014 she returned to Nigeria on a visit sponsored by a Carnegie Africa Diaspora Fellowship. Agwu's interest in ethnomathematics stemmed from her development of a discrete mathematics course that would cover the college's requirement that students take a writing-intensive course. Her work in this area includes using storytelling to allow mathematics students to relate better to the material, and examining the mathematical structure of Ndebele dolls, African textiles, and the game of Mancala.
