Amber’s tumblr. Aww yeah!

@stripeycrayons / stripeycrayons.tumblr.com

Workin stiff. Arts. Silly reblogs and an inability to ignore Tumblr propaganda. not a pornbot I promise ;)

Keeping up the trend of no filter posting... workin on a thing, had to stop 'cause I'm tired and sick and it's almost 3 am, but I'm excited about this nonsense

Update on the painting, several months later: I woke up with no prompting at 5:55 am and just crawled out of bed and into the painting room. Had fun, squished paint onto canvas, went to work happy! The idea is that if you make no room for yourself to make bad art, if there is no chance to make something less than your best, destined to sell, then there is no room to try at all. Making something that's meant to be bad takes the pressure off, and allows you to be more playful.

Someone give this woman a damn crown and medal

Happy pride month to country mama lynn and ger gay son only

aint it crazy how many people realize they're queer when they have the language to express how they feel and a support system to encourage self exploration????

I never stop enjoying reading this. Literally everyone's lives improves.

j'adore le franglish content le code switching c'est tellement fun je sautille from a language to another like a gazelle et toi aussi tant que tu voudras :)

OUAIS baby we are so fucking back. franglais est parfait parce que americans get mad AND it sends evil psychic vibes à l’académie française. The phrase “qu’est-ce qu’y’all doing aujourd’hui” came out of my mouth this evening and i think that might be the pinnacle of human language. i love being annoying

I've seen this before, but it's been years and it just came across my Twitter in its dying days. The words are from a favorite author of mine, Maggie Stiefvater, and they are the words I most need to hear when it comes to dealing with chronic pain and illness. I didn't need this the first time I saw it, six years ago. I need it now. Maybe you do, too.

Ugh I need to go somewhere beautiful

Like RIGHT now

art tips

  • don't call what you create "content". regardless of what it is. that's the devil talking. call it art, call it writing, call it music, call it analysis, call it editing, literally just call it what it is
  • I was going to put other things but oh my god please just don't call yourself a "content creator". you are a person you are making art / writing / music / etc you are an artist an author a musician
  • you are not an Image Generator For Clicks And Views. please. allow yourself to connect with your work by naming it properly and acknowledging yourself in kind

I just got glasses yesterday at a whole 30 years of age... I haven't been to the optometrist in like 8 years because my eyesight was never a problem, but since I have decent benefits for the first time, I decided to go in just in case to make sure my eyes are healthy. I'm apparently slightly far sighted, and now have some dainty little glasses that I'm still not used to wearing- but I am noticing, and in fact am slightly obsessed with, the clarity of up-close things. It's just a tiny shift in how I see, and I can get by perfectly fine without them, but now I have that little bit of "ooh look at THat texture" that I didn't have before...

Today is March 12, sir Terry Pratchett Memorial Day, a day that is important for me to remember. This man, his books, helped me a lot in my childhood and are helping me up to this day. Therefore, every year I draw a lilac - this is a kind of a way to say "thank you" to a person who unfortunately will never hear it. But the world will hear his name once again, and a man is not dead while his name is still spoken.

I'm just trying to boost this :>

Yes, only Canadians can sign.

If you can’t sign, please reblog to spread the word.

Also make sure that you check your email! Once you've signed, you need to confirm for your signature to be counted.

This is part of my ongoing Discworld jacket embroidery project. Of course Great A'Tuin has to be on there. And of course it has to be the biggest one of them all.

I'm going to put the finished product in my masterpost, but I'm so proud of the thing that I have to put it in an extra post beforehand. Enjoy!

Update 3: Why did I have to try single thread for the disc. Why. How did I ever think that was a good idea. This is taking aaaages.

I'd say never again, but I know myself too well...

Still trying to decide whether to outline the landmass with darker thread or not. It would make the lands more distinct - but it might also make it look more like a comic. If you have any thoughts on it, let me know. I'll only decide once I've finished the rest of the disc and that'll be at least a week, if I had to guess.

Avatar

I finally had some time to continue and the disc is done! Now just some stars, planets, etc...

My estimate is that this took about 150 hours. About half of that went into the disc because I discovered single thread embroidery.

And because I always think it's really interesting to see the back of the embroidery - bonus:

On to the next one! Maybe I'll do the luggage now.

Wow..!

It's so wonderful

we’ve gone from the yee haw agenda to the ye olde thot programme

Ah yes, those slutty slutty Landsknecht shorts:

The bare-legged / hot-pants look was fairly common, since the whole point about being a Landsknecht (or Reislaufer, their Swiss equivalent) was to look outrageous.

Most period illustrations of Landsknechts are black-and-white woodcuts…

…though in 1905 a book called „Geschichte des Kostüms“ - History of Costume - assembled a bunch of black-and-whites and added colour.

If they look excessively gaudy, they’re not, because these next prints were coloured in-period by an artist called Erhard Schön, and it’s fair to assume he was representing what he saw.

In short - or in shorts - those reenactor costumes are spot on. :->

Something mentioned nowhere in this post that I have just learned from googling: these guys were not Ye Olde Medieval Dandies. They were 15th-16th century mercenaries. Pretty hardcore, too. They were exempt from sumptuary laws (ie the rules that said you couldn’t wear certain colours or cloth or styles) and apparently their response to that was technicolour thotpants.

For the Discworld fans, imagine if THIS was what Vimes's ducal regalia outfits looked like
