More people need to be talking about COPPA. Not later, now. It’s serious.
Have your voice heard before December 9: https://www. regulations.gov/comment?D=FTC-2019-0054-0001
I sent in a comment to the FTC!
Thank you!
I don’t normally reblog stuff like this on here (on purpose), but this is actually really important.
If you are a content creator on YouTube, this affects you. It’s SUPER important. Please watch the video and do some research so you know what you’re up against.
(This affects Tangled Talk, too.)
Oh thank goodness someone else is talking about this, I was just about to make a huge rant about it myself. Me and my friend Peace ( @thegamingguard ) were discussing this on Discord not too long ago.
I need you guys to understand what this means. What they’re defining as ‘children’s content’ is EXTREMELY vague. From what Peace was telling me, your video could get flagged as kid’s content if you say the word ‘COOL’ or ‘FUN’.
Any and ALL YouTubers could be caught by this. Anything animation based can be flagged as kid’s content. Bright colors in the thumbnail can be flagged as kid’s content. Toys in the background, even if they’re collectibles, can be flagged.
Even gaming YouTubers such as Jacksepticeye and Markiplier could be caught by this because ‘games’ is one of the things that’s classified as ‘kid appealing content’. What type of games, YouTube? It just says ‘GAMES.’
I watch a ton of YouTubers in the Arts and Crafts community, and ALL of them are under the gun for this. This is such a big deal. People’s livelihoods are being torn out from under them because of this.
I personally can’t send a comment about this, but if you can, I beg of you to do so. Something desperately needs to be done about this quickly, before it’s too late. So many creators on YouTube will be shot down because of this.
I’d even go as far as saying this could kill the platform because of how vague it is. Who the heck doesn’t say the word ‘cool’ every now and then in their videos? My friend Peace put it this way, by the time the FTC is done, there will be NOTHING left on YouTube but boring political videos.
Please make your voice heard, and send a comment to them about this. We’ve got to get the FTC’s attention before this law goes into place.
Hey you guys! I haven’t been logged into this blog in eons (*coughs* I’m on @alchemyready *coughs*), but I’m popping in to reblog this from my Tangled blog. I’m not gonna type out a whole ‘nother extremely long rant because I already typed the one above, but this is extremely important and I want to spread this as much as possible.
In addition to what I said above, I’d like to share with you a screenshot that Peace sent me of what these rules mean exactly:
AND, what counts as kids’ content:
Do you guys see how vague this is? And how much can be taken away from YouTubers because of this?
AND, that’s not all!
If you mark your video as ‘Not for Kids’, and it’s flagged as being ‘For Kids’, you can be fined $42,000 dollars.
Anyways, TL;DR: This whole thing is awful and something needs to be done about it! Please send a comment to the FTC opposing these strict rules. Help the YouTube community out, they need it.
For anyone who wishes to send in a comment on the link, please be civil. These will be read and considered by officials who could easily shrug off rude messages.
