We've been asked a few times about our collaborative process and how we came to know each other, so we thought we'd share two short bio comics from the back of the Mahou Shounen Breakfast Club zine!
this was really fun to make! it is GOMI and KENTA, the main characters of KATIE and TORIL’s comic MAHOU SHOUNEN BREAKFAST CLUB! They are japanese voice actors, so what better situation to put them in than karaoke?!??
K&T are just so awesome, words to describe this badass combination never seem to do any justice! they’re already way badass comickers on their own, and now they’ve teamed up into a crazy talent singularity called STRANGESTAR COMICS! please check it out, you will not be disappointed!!!

i have a question, if you have the time to answer! how does the collaboration process work when you're both doing the art and writing? (which is what i assume is happening, because the promo pictures look like a blend of both your styles). i'm very excited for the comic to come out, good luck to you both! \\\o///
Hello!
We are indeed both doing art and writing, and we're glad the finished product seems like a blend of our two styles! We both trust each other/admire each other's work a lot, so it's really easy for us to basically tag team with both~
For the actual process of writing, we've talked out our ideas over Skype quite a lot - like over months. Just casually building up the characters and story together, sort of like "what if they did this" etc. This gave us a good handle on the characters, and some of the developments we wanted to make with both them and the plot.
Once we decided we really wanted to Write A Comic, we looked at all the plot points we already had figured out, wrote them out into chapter sections and then filled in the blanks! And now that we're writing the actual script, we'll usually chat on Skype while both writing the same Google Drive document. Basically whoever has an idea for the next line will just write it down, and it usually ends up around 50/50 anyway!
We haven't started on art yet, but the zine cover was Katie's pencils and colours, and Toril's inks! We both love each others work so much that in the end, it doesn't really matter who does what, just whatever feels right~
It's really nice being able to share each part of the process equally, and it probably contributes a lot to how much we both enjoy the project! It also means we can encourage each other/help out all the time! Thank you for askin, and thanks for being interested in the comic!! We hope you'll like it!
I dont know if this was already addressed and I am blind-- uu; I was just wondering about the romance aspects (if any) in the comic, someone said it was bl?? I didnt see anything outright saying it and was just looking for clarification! ty!
Hello! We aim to portray a range of different relationships, but the main focus of the comic will definitely be on Gomi and Kenta and its eventual progression into a romance!
ANNA!!! THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL!! I absolutely love how you drew the trash sons, both their expressions are so perfect and so in character!! (so are their figures, hella kenta dad legs yooooo). the flower details are SO GORGEOUS, and the springtime palette is just amazing, you’re so good with colours and lines and everything!! ;w; thanks so much for drawing them!!

Hi i was wondering if you both are drawing the pages for the comic or if one creates the dialogue and one just draws.
We do everything together~ which is to say, we’re comfortable working with each other’s thumbnails, pencils, inks, and colours, so we’ll most likely be switching around depending on what we feel while drawing the comic. As for scripting and planning, we write using GoogleDocs and Skype!
Have you figured out the characters used for gomi's and kenta's names?
Yes! Kenta is a fairly standard surname and isn't spelled particularly differently than usual, it's 健太. It means like strong, big, thick (to our unending amusement). Gomi's name on the other hand uses katakana (ゴミ).
the advisory rating will vary from comic to comic! Mahou Shounen Breakfast Club is a slice-of-life/romance about (alleged) adults, so we tentatively estimate it'll be 15+, but we hope to make some spicy spinoffs for it as well~
