Minecraft + Magic

I’ve been playing a lot of Minecraft recently and it’s really got me thinking on/about it being used as a sort of like an altar/e-shrine that one could use if they were still a hidden witch or even a beginner witch. When playing I know that most players enjoy building a home so I figured why not build a home with rooms of worship inside it? Each room would then be dedicated to a god/dess and then i would go out into the world looking for the devotional items or things that would symbolize that god/dess.  Inside the game there are many potential representations Torches - Candles Lava - Fire Element Rivers/Lakes/Waterfalls/Oceans - Water Element Dirt - Earth Element Feathers - Wind Element YOU CAN MAKE AN ENCHANTING TABLE WITH A FLOATING SPELL BOOK. YOU CAN BREW POTIONS TOO!

There’s so much potential for Magical workings in this game. Seriously guys go check it out or try it for yourselves~

I’ll try to take pictures of my house to show you what i mean, hopefully it’ll work… Anyways talk to me about it! What are your thoughts?

Combining the Elements: Air

Elemental magic sometimes requires us to marry two elements into one to get our desired results, which can be a bit baffling at times. This short guide is to help with some suggestions of elemental combinations you can use to combine the power of two, sometimes opposite, elemental energies into harmony. There are likely many other combinations, these are just some of my personal suggestions - but other combos exist! Today we focus on the element of Air.

  • Air and Fire: smoke, ash
  • Air and Earth: sand, dust, chalk; trees, leaves, dandelions, cotton
  • Air and Water: bubbles, fog, clouds, storms
  • Air and Light: lightning, rainbows, reflections
  • Air and Shadow: storms, tornadoes, galestorms
  • Air and Sound: thunder, music, voice/song, windchimes, dance
  • Air and Frost: hail, blizzards
  • Air and Moon: night air, mist, fog
  • Air and Sun: tumbleweeds, leaves (loose/fallen), scents, warm breezes

Guides for Beginner Witches: Incense Cleansing, Banishing and Warding

Incense is a common tool and ingredient in a witch’s arsenal - commonly used for spellwork, meditation and its relaxing properties. These good smelling sticks of fragrance are also often used in practices for cleansing spaces, warding off negative energies, banishing negative forces and even yes breaking and weakening curses. Let us cover that today!

Incense Cleansing

Incense is commonly used for cleansing purposes as it is a type of smoke cleansing. There are a few different methods for this. For cleansing one’s space, lighting a stick of incense and carefully walking a room with it is probably the most common (please ensure you are using something to catch the ashes). Lighting some incense near an open window and letting it waft through a room or space is the most hands off method, though be sure to keep an eye on it.

For cleansing oneself before or after spellwork place some lit incense, either stick or cone form, upon a table or surface and carefully waft the smoke towards you. Run your hands through the smoke and up your arms. If you have the tool, a hanging incense burner pendant can be a wonderful alternative for cleansing oneself or cleansing another - carefully swing it as it is directed (most come with instructions) around your immediate area or around the other person you are cleansing.

For cleansing one’s tools, crystals and other objects light some incense and run the items through the smoke very similarly to how you would run your hands through it for self cleansing. Be thorough with the object to ensure it is fully cleansed, this should take a few minutes.

Incenses commonly used for cleansing: Benzoin, Citronella, Lavender, Pine, Cedar/Cedarwood, Copal, Dragon’s Blood, Eucalyptus, Jasmine, Lemon, Myrrh, Thyme, Rosemary

Incense Banishing

Banishing is a bit different than cleansing, while cleansing is removing mild negative energies or unwanted energies to help maintain purity of items, spaces and tools - banishing is the aggressive assertive act of forcefully removing and pushing out unwanted energies, entities and forces. This would include banishing out the baneful magic of others, such as hexes and curses, from yourself, others or objects.

Incense banishing is similar to the process of cleansing though it is much more assertive - when banishing unwanted forces, arm yourself with your incense, stick form or swinging pendulum tool is best. If using a stick for cleansing place it into a jar or container with salt and if possible charcoal - both strong banishing ingredients. Walk the space you are banishing and forcefully and strongly state “I banish you” in a chanting manner but very firmly, while you ensure the smoke of your incense spreads around thoroughly.

If banishing negativity or possible baneful magic from yourself or another, like cleansing use the smoke to ‘bathe’ yourself or the other. While you do this state firmly as many times as you want “I banish you from me/them, I send you away, I push you away and break your ties. I banish thee, I banish thee” or any other chant you feel comfortable doing. Continue this for several minutes preferably.

Incenses commonly used for banishing: Myrrh, Pine, Sage, Sagebrush, Basil, Citronella, Clove, Dragon’s Blood, Fern, Frankincense, Juniper, Mint, Vetivert, Peppermint, Sandalwood, Vervain, Yarrow

Incense Warding

Warding is less assertive than banishment and it is more so putting up barriers and protections to prevent negativity from entering your space or home in the first place. Warding should be done regularly every month or so - maintaining your wards is like maintaining a fence to keep away annoying unwanted neighbors.

For warding, it is a bit more hands off when it comes to incense. You can repeat the walk around method like in cleansing. Though a popular way to ward using incense is to fill a bowl with salt, dried sage and dried rosemary, mix well. Stick your incense stick at an angle to so it doesn’t catch any herbs on fire but so its ashes still fall into the bowl. Light your incense and let it burn down to the stick - warding your space. Repeat this as necessary. This is also a little ‘recipe’ for some warding salts if you wish to stir in the ashes and bottle them.

Incenses commonly used for warding: Citronella, Lavender, Sage, Benzoin, Frankincense, Myrrh, Damar, Rosemary, Ylang Ylang, Peppermint

Incense Safety

Please use incense responsibly! Incense is still using fire and heat, make sure you have an ash catcher or a fireproof dish to catch the ashes and embers in. Never leave incense burning in your home without supervision, do not leave your home unoccupied with lit incense. Keep it away from anything flammable such as fabrics and curtains.

Do not burn incense in rooms with small mammals or birds - it can cause them breathing distress and can cause them serious health concerns! When burning incense around cats or dogs, keep it in a ventilated area with open windows and airflow and do not burn it for too long. If you are using it around cats or dogs, research to ensure the type of incense you are using does not upset or cause negative effects to animals. If your cat or dog has a respiratory issue such as asthma do NOT burn incense around them.

When burning incense for self cleansing or cleansing another, keep your hair tied back. Do not let your hair fall onto the incense at risk of it catching fire or being singed. Do not wear long flowing sleeves or scarves with using incense in this manner.

When disposing of incense, ensure to clean up the ashes if you are outside, do not leave your trash or sticks behind. Ensure your incense has either been thoroughly snuffed out or burned out before disposing. Do not throw away still smoking incense.

For those in apartments or dorms, check your rules and leases - many apartments do not allow the burning of incense. Do not risk losing your deposit or getting in trouble - there are other ways to cleanse, banish and ward without smoke.

Anonymous asked:

So I've been very lazy with my studying toward witch craft and therefore I'm going back to the beginning~ lol. Any advice for a little witch?

Some Advice for Getting Started:

*Start with things that interest you!*

I know i get terribly bored very quickly (gemini curse lmao) so i find that if i dive into stuff i’m interested in learning about, that it will tend to hold my attention longer and help me get back into the swing of things! So in my example one of my first things i researched when i was starting out was about Crystals and their properties/uses in magic! From there i was able to use that as a sort of base jumping off point for my magical practice! And if you find something you were learning about doesn’t seem like it fits you/your style/ your practice then drop it and move on to the next thing!

*Ask Questions!*

No Questions Are Stupid Questions No Questions Are Stupid Questions No Questions Are Stupid Questions!!!! Questions mean you care enough to try and learn more about something! I’m pretty much always here and will try my best to answer as best as i am able And if I can’t i will do my best to help direct you to someone more knowledgeable!

*TAKE YOUR TIME!*

This one is important because most of the time i feel like i see baby/beginner witches try really REALLY hard to “reach the same level” as other witches as quickly as possible when in reality that just hurts THEIR path in the long run. Your path is your own, take it at your own pace. Enjoy the little bumps along the way and find the “Roses of your Path” (the things that make you want to stop and appreciate them: the satisfaction of calling your first Storm, the chill of the night air when you set out your first Full Moon Water, the spark when you find that one crystal.) Enjoy it. Enjoy your path, Enjoy your Craft.

*Use the Things you Already Own!*

Another thing i see beginners getting hung up on (myself included, i was/am extremely guilty of this lol) is wanting to go out and buy a ton of supplies. try looking around your house for things that can be re purposed. Old Spaghetti Sauce Jars can be cleaned and used as spell jars, deity altars/shrines, or ingredient storage! Take pictures from old magazines and make a collage Altar on paper! Use a composition notebook as your Book Of Shadows! Your old broken glasses case can be used as a case for your portable altar! Dig around and see if there are extra candles you haven’t used in a while! Wash out and save those eggshells from your cooking to use as spell ingredients! It takes some creative thinking but you can reclaim pretty much anything for your craft!

*Look for Bargains!*For one thing prices can be outrageous for actual craft materials: like Crystals and Gems? Truly truly truly outrageous. So keep your eyes peeled for bargains and deals! Some of the best places to look for things on the cheap would be Dollar Stores, Flea Markets, Thrift Shops, Garage/Estate Sales! Most of the time in those places you can try haggling to get things at a cheaper price (or get more for less.) It really just depends on the place but you can find the most interesting assortments of things! Keep your eyes peeled in your general day to day life as well see if there are sales at your local grocery store for seed packets, seasonal items/holiday items (look for the sales afterwords to really save haha) The internet is a great place to look, i know Ebay has sellers who sell raw crystals/ crystal chunks by the pound. There’s also places to buy spices in bulk too *Don’t Compare Your Path to Others!*Your Path is Your Path, Their Path is Their Path. Being online and part of the witchy community in tumblr means that there are a lot of ideas being shared from people’s paths and their views on how they think magic should be practiced. What works for them might not work for you and vice versa. Only YOU can decide what is best for you and your path. and on that note:*Figure Out What YOU Want Out of Your Path!*When you get some time, sit down and write out all the things you want to get from your path and think critically about how you want magic to work in your daily life. Do you want it to be Super Formal or more casual? perhaps a mix of the two?  Test the waters! Try things once and if you don’t like it then you know and can move on to the things that work better for your lifestyle/craft/path!Some examples from my list that i can think of right now would be:-Better knowledge of Crystals/ Crystal remedies and their healing properties-Daily research -aka tumblr--Appreciating Nature more (Whenever i go on walks with my dog i try to pick up some litter if/when i see it)-Daily Deity appreciation  -aka deity aesthetic reblogs to @theemeraldgod & Pintrest-
