Cocteau Twins - VictoryLap! 5 alternative remixes from Victorialand.

The final chapter in my remix project VICTORIABLEND, which was an attempt to re-work Cocteau Twins' Victorialand and This Mortal Coil's Song To The Siren in the style of mid-90's SMOKERS DELIGHT Downtempo/Trip Hop mixes.

This VictoryLap contains five distinct videos:

0:00:00 Lap 1: How To Bring A Blush To The Snow (Security 1st). Mixed with Security Of The 1st World by Public Enemy.

0:05:27 Lap 2: Little Spacey (Silicone Scruff). Mixed with Silcone (Mr. Scruff Mix) by Mono.

0:09:00 Lap 3: Oomingmak (Rollercoaster). Mixed with Rollercoaster (King Britt mix) by Everything But The Girl.

0:12:45 Lap 4: The Thinner The Air (Backdrop) Mixed with Back 2 Back by Pressure Drop. 0:19:58 Bonus Lap: This Mortal Coil - Song To The Siren (Broken) Mixed with Pussycat (PFM mix) by Mulu.

This Mortal Coil - Song To The Siren (inhaling liquid). The lost remix.

This song needs no remix, I hear you (and me) say! It´s perfect as it is, we all agree! So I tried it anyway, promising myself not to upload anything, until I had come up with a version that would bring something of value to the siren song. And then I came up with THIS!

Inhaler is a song by Belgian Trip Hop/Downtempo band Hoover(phonic) which they recorded for their debut album in 1996. It almost seems that they had written it just for me to mix it into Song To The Siren in 2023.

The simple beat with underlying sub-bass gives the mix its rhythmic foundation. Soon the subtle but spacious synth-pads open up the horizon on the sparse, tentative instrumentation. And then the exploding, shimmering guitar chords are transforming the lonely, forlorn song into a confident dream-pop smash!

It´s almost ridiculous how well these few extra touches make it sound like it was actually recorded this way. This really sounds like a legit version, yet we only ever heard the "minimal mix". (Not that there is ANYTHING WRONG with it.)

I´m not making this up, just press PLAY!

This is the final song - the bonus track, if you will - of my VICTORIABLEND remix project. I remixed the complete Cocteau Twins´ 1986 acoustic album Victorialand and thought this might be a nice addition to that eclectic collection of remix/mashup/interventions.

All songs were mixed live on digital turntable. No sequencing, programming, editing or overdubbing was used. If I messed up a mix, I did it again and again until I was happy with the result.

Cocteau Twins - Oomingmak (musky funk). A fantasy VICTORIALAND remix.

What´s an Oomingmak? The Inuit word for a musk ox? A fancy  effect device for guitars? An ancient, erotic dance that can turn marble statues into hunky toy-boys?

YES! All of it! Press play and find out how the Cocteau Twins-lullaby transforms into a whirling dervish of a technicolor Bollywood smash! आनंद लें!
