Wow what a shitty thing to say! Let's go over it!

First Problem; Trauma Olympics!

This is comparing sexual abuse to other kinds of abuse, and saying "These people, who were sexually abused, have more victim points than these people, who were abused in other ways." In other words, "Your trauma is less valid because you were beaten and not raped."

It is a shitty move to tell someone they aren't allowed to feel hurt or traumatized over an event because it wasn't sexual in nature. It's a shitty move to assume a murder attempt or identity theft victim wouldn't live with that for the rest of their lives the way a rape victim would.

Second Problem; No Hope!

Painting sexual trauma as somehow inherently worse and more horrifying or damaging than "normal" trauma makes it easier for victims to feel helpless and, more importantly, worthless. I can only mostly speak from an AFAB POV (AMABs or people qualified to speak on those issues; please reblog or reply with some input!), but society tells a lot of us that our worth us tied to sex in some way, which itself can be harmful.

Now imagine someone forces you to "dirty" yourself. You're broken, worthless, undesirable. Imagine feeling like that and desperately trying to understand why it happened, how you could have changed things.

And now imagine some fucking asshole comes in and tells you "You're traumatized completely; there's no hope for you. This pain is special and unique because sex is a uniquely bad thing".

Final Point; Sex is a Neutral Act

That's the whole point. Sex isn't somehow more intimate or dirty or whatever than other activities. It's your personal choice as to what if means to you, but however personal it is to you, it won't mean the same thing to everyone.

Being sexually assaulted is an awful, horrible thing to happen to anyone, no matter what. Novody deserves that kind of hell. But it's not some special or extra bad kind of harm. It's a violation of bodily autonomy, and those violations can be non-sexual in nature.

Some people will react worse to sexual trauma than to non-sexual, yes. And some people (like myself) would rather get assaulted again than face other kinds of violence.

Telling us that no, actually, having someone try to actually, genuinely murder you ISN'T as bad as rape is offensive, insensitive, and downright fucking gross.
