sci-fi, a touch of posthumanism, and speculative biology. mostly using this blog to develop story concepts

Another creature

They don't technically have a solid name but I've been calling em Selkies as a placeholder. They don't have quite as much established world building as the moth-rabbits but I like them a lot. They're like if seals had sapience, were built to walk on land and were bigger than polar bears. I have some other regional color variants here too

Uhh yeah there'll be more on these later bye

Idrisah is dysfunctionally compassionate, Talita likes being helpful, and Gillie has a big gamer chair.

In this comic the Runaway is experiencing accelerative thrust “gravity,” but when the ship isn’t burning the engines, it’s 0g. Because the ceilings are so tall, the rooms actually feel much larger without gravity… a lot of stuff is strapped to the walls and ceiling because it’s great storage space and easily accessible while not traveling. The gamer chair has to be on a leash.

Small pests are actually a fairly common problem in spacecraft. Eggs/insects, agricultural pathogens, weed seeds, and even rodents can hitch a ride on shipments of organic material between planets and space. UV sterilization on non-living imports and quarantine regulations help, but pests can be hard to fully eliminate from larger stations and ships.

OK TIME TO FINALLY POST A CREATURE

I've been holding this blog for too long it's time to post for real. This is a sapient alien species I came up with a good while ago... They still don't have a real name, I've just been calling em moth-rabbits as a placeholder. I am absolutely willing to accept name suggestions cause I got nothing.

This is an average adult specimen, of the Chkl'tkk ethnic group. This species is arthropod-esque, bearing a thick exoskeleton and segmented limbs as well as antennae and a proboscis used as a feeding structure. They typically live in large colonies adjacent to human cities. They are hermaphroditic, with no separate sexes. They vocalize via openings below the antennae, protected by small specialized limbs that act similar to the cartilage found outside of mammalian ears. They possess two pairs of eyes, one compound like an earth insect and one more like a cephalopod's. They have a range of color vision similar to humans.

There are multiple ethnic groups present on their planet, distinguishable by their bright coloration and markings, though coloring and markings can and do vary between individuals within groups.

Here I have drawn a map of the moth-rabbit homeplanet, colored in accordance to the ethnic groups found most frequently in specific regions (though realistically there is far more overlap than this, I just colored according to population majority in the area for simplicity's sake.)

There is more on them I just don't have it all drawn yet and I wanted to post something. Expect more
