You met with the Nimoy family last summer before you started filming. What was that experience like?

“It was really special. I found out the week before that I had gotten the job. I was overwhelmed. I was still in shock the following week. I was curious to meet them, and CBS arranged a time for us to get together. Leonard Nimoy's children were so open, kind and welcoming. They were very there for me and curious about what my plans were for my preparation. We spoke about how Nimoy prepared. It was one of the first steps to feel worthy of doing this.”

BEFORE this Thursday’s episode 206 of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY airs, I might suggest reviewing the Short Trek “The Brightest Star” to see my humble beginnings as Saru, and remember on what terms I left my sister “Siranna” and my home planet Kaminar. Then remember what we learned about the Kelpien “Vahar’ai” and what it taught me in episode 204. All comes into play in this week’s new episode!! . - On @cbsallaccess - scroll to the bottom of the season 2 full episodes page (USA). - On @cravecanada (Canada). - On Netflix (all OTHER countries) - look for it in “Trailers and more”. . #startrekdiscovery #startrek #aliens #kelpien #saru #space #thefinalfrontier #generalorderone #primedirective #conflicted https://www.instagram.com/actordougjones/p/BuEoYYAHgac/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1kjqq1ij48ozf

The Brightest Star was my favorite of the Short Treks, and if you haven’t seen it yet you should definitely check it out. It’s emotional and inspiring, and just thinking about it is getting me all hyped for the new episode of Discovery.

9. Cestus III

After capturing Spock’s shuttle in the opening of “Saints of Imperfection,” which was being piloted by Emperor Georgiou, Captain Pike is confronted by her superior in Section 31 – Leland. Pike and Leland clearly have a pre-existing relationship, as Pike says the last time he saw Leland was “wrestling alligators on Cestus III.”

Cestus III is the site of a Federation colony that would later be destroyed by the Gorn in the Original Seriesepisode “Arena.”

3. House of Mogh

One of the members of the Klingon High Council is wearing the emblem of the House of Mogh. Though it is not named in the episode – and it may have a different name at this point in the timeline – the House of Mogh would later include the most famous Klingon of all: Worf.
