Dean is... extremely wary of Ellen starting out in season 2 in a way Sam simply isn't. I mean I can absolutely dismiss Dean snapping at Ellen in 2.02 when she tries to offer him support. It's easy to say that's just about Dean's irritation with Sam constantly pestering him about how he's grieving. But there's another moment also in 2.03, where Sam calls Ellen quite transparently to see if she has any opinions on Gordon, and then he reports back to Dean, and Dean says,

And I'm supposed to listen to her? We barely know her, Sam, no thanks, I'll go with Gordon.

Which is weird, right? Because Ellen hasn't done anything to make Dean so suspicious. But it's also easy to look at this and think, "Well Dean just likes Gordon, and he doesn't want to accept any potential criticism of this guy he likes".

Then in 2.04, Dean does suggest going to the Roadhouse, but only in an effort to distract Sam from the idea of going to Mary's grave because Dean doesn't want to go, and when Sam suggests Dean go on to the Roadhouse and Sam will meet him there, Dean instantly drops the idea saying he doesn't want to be alone with those people.

And I could handwave all of that except then we get to 2.05, and Dean makes it very clear in this episode that he does not want to go to the Roadhouse to get a lead on Sam's vision because he doesn't trust them to be cool about Sam's visions. And then at the end of the episode, when Ellen is onto them and demands answers, and Sam starts giving answers and admits he has powers, the face Dean gives Ellen is... well. Positively murderous.

And you know—when Dean suggests that they shouldn't go to the Roadhouse because he doesn't know how they'll react, Sam clearly has negative feelings about that. It upsets him. It makes him feel othered. Because from Sam's perspective, Ellen was someone they can trust the moment he knew about her—because she was John's friend... and yet that's the same reasoning that makes Dean concerned about how she'll treat Sam. Because John is the guy who told Dean to KILL SAM if he could not save him, so how the FUCK can Dean instantly trust his friends?

A small addition here: I already made a post about how Dean is attracted to Gordon as a representation of someone better than John—not someone to simply replace him or measure up to him. And this is also reflected in Dean rejecting Ellen's perception of Gordon! Because Ellen is John's friend. Sam expects "Ellen says Gordon is bad news" to sway Dean. Ellen's opinion should carry weight because she's their Dad's friend and Sam thinks this is all about Dean looking for someone to replace John. But it doesn't work because Dean isn't looking for John or someone John would approve of. He is furious at John, and he is intentionally rejecting John's thinking and therefore Ellen's opinion as well!

Hi Neil,

How much has your work been inspired by Goncharov (1973)?

The whole of Season 2 of Good Omens was inspired by Goncharov. Dottie and Sadie, Aziraphale and Crowley's wives, were basically my take on Perdita and Brigitte, the two tourists who worked in the condom factory, and the whole Goncharov helium balloons and clowns sequence. For that matter, without Goncharov it would never have occurred to me to have made the comedy in episode 4 the fact that Dottie and Sadie and their husbands have unknowingly all been booked in the same hotel room, or to have had the Archangel Gabriel played by a chinchilla. Yes.

Mermaids as fun drinks!!! :D I’m going to be selling these designs tomorrow todayshhdontjudgemeandmypoorsleephabits as stickers at an event at my college. Would have made more but ran out of time ;w;

Bonus:

if Sherlock Holmes was a tumblr user he’d be like prev reblog I noticed you tagged this gifset of Ryan Gosling in the Barbie movie trailer with “I want to *** *** *****” which you likely wanted us to interpret with a vague sexual meaning however three weeks ago you posted that you were researching Greek myths for fun and ever since then you have “coincidentally” used prometheus as a topic in several of your funnyguy posts that only got 200 notes and coupled with your love of birds I can only assume that your tag actually meant “eat his liver” and that you’re deep in some sort of Prometheus hyperfixation that you’re coy about for some reason probably because it’s so weird. and then everyone on here would get all scared because of him
