Sea Spider and Pom-pom Anemone

Although they look somewhat like land spiders, sea spiders are an entirely separate class of animals, known as pycnogonids. Pycnogonids are “suctorial” predators—most species feed by sucking the bodily fluids from other marine animals.

Pycnogonids are fairly common in tide pools, but these intertidal species are typically small and hard to see. In contrast, deep-sea pycnogonids can grow to over 50 cm (20 inches) across, and spend much of their time on the open seafloor.

This deep-sea pycnogonid hunches over a pom-pom anemone, with its proboscis inserted into one the anemone’s tentacles. Apparently large anemones can survive numerous such attacks, providing a “renewable resource” for nearby pycnogonids. the average person's understanding of the "squirrel" could stand expansion. most people think of grey squirrels and red squirrels. urge them to think a little harder and they might come up with chipmunks and flying squirrels, while asking "i mean, do those really count?"

chipmunks (nightcore ass animal):

african pygmy squirrel (the smallest Squirrels):

thirteen-lined ground squirrel (fancier than you):
