Why people need to stop painting Sabrina out to be a little brat that never faces the consequences of her actions, a short essay by lauren
Firstly, Sabrina has always demonstrated herself to be very motivated by altruistic purposes of helping the coven, her friends and others around her. Just because she has not always gone about the most ideal ways of doing things should not denote that her intentions have always been good. Even though Harvey lost his brother (which actually wasn’t even her fault) and Sabrina failed to resurrect him properly, she was able to give Harvey something that he never really had which was a better, sober father figure. That doesn’t compensate for Harvey’s pains, but it proved immensely helpful to Harvey to have a good family member who could support him.
Secondly, just because Sabrina doesn’t always face severe pains physically, doesn’t mean that she has not consistently been the character who gets pinned with the most hurtful comments (even when, once again, it isn’t always her fault). She never asked Nick to sacrifice himself for her, so why should she be expected to consistently uplift and support him after saving him from hell, when he’s continuously lied and belittled her? Do you not think Sabrina has taken a mental tole from the insults and insinuations Nick and Harvey which always leave her in tears (such as Nick blaming her and telling her she wasn’t worth it and Harvey practically accusing her of making her BEST friend Roz, blind)? Another example in the third season lies in the way the coven, especially Ambrose get upset at Sabrina and scolds her for ‘not being there when they needed her’ yet they were the ones who told her she NEEDED to go on the quest for the unholy regalia, even when she stated she wanted to stay back and help the coven. Sabrina has constantly tried to help all the people in her life, even though she also has to face the fact that she’s only just found out who her real dad is (who represents everything she has been fighting against), which has subsequently caused a shift in her belief system and identity.
Sabrina may be childish in many regards and her decisions may not always be great, but when the fandom constantly paints her as this spoiled character when all she ever does is try and appease everyone around her? Agitating.
I end with this quote that Lilith said to Sabrina that definitely is not a terrible thing/nor manipulative thing to say to a SIXTEEN year old who literally has more responsibility (that half the time is forced on her) than anyone else in the show could dream of.
“By not accepting the challenge, you threaten the very existence of your coven, your friends and family. And do you know why the balance of the cosmos is tipped, the arrival of the Pagans, your coven’s loss of power? It’s all a direct result of your refusal to claim absolutely the throne. Don’t you see Sabrina? All of this suffering, it’s your fault.”
