"Growing Around Grief"

Lois Tonkin, 1996

This is the most important thing I’ve learned about grieving. It never goes away. Time doesn’t make it smaller. Time, if you do the work, makes you bigger. Self expansion is key. Self expansion through creativity and passion and communication. My grief used to be all of me. Now it is a part of me. An important part, but just a part. I love this visualization so much.

I'm so tired of living this way (← girl that will never do anything to change her way of living because breaking the routine scares her more than anything)

"I have to get it right the first time!"

why? why do you have to get it right the first time? what's actually going to happen if your words aren't in the absolute perfect order before you move on to the next sentence? you aren't showing the draft to anyone. this is why we have the editing and revision process. perfection is a trap that keeps you from making progress. dare I say it's rooted in fear? let it go. allow yourself to be imperfect.

I have no energy to argue. I’m okay with being misunderstood. I’m not going to keep repeating myself and I refuse to fix every little disagreement. Everyone will not hear you, nor are they interested in hearing you and I’ve learned to be okay with saving my energy and not putting it towards negativity.

I could get over anything as long as I have something new to be obsessed with

girls when they don’t have a new obsession that helps them dissociate from their problems and they’re actually forced to face their thoughts
