Kaiju fan, horror freak, movie-watcher, simpleton.

Pleasantly wholesome inner sleeve art for Vinegar Syndrome's new release of Gorgo.

Mother and child reunited while London gathers their dead.

Some more deets on the Pluto Godzilla channel that started yesterday;

-Return of Godzilla, Godzilla vs. Biollante, Rebirth of Mothra I, the ambiguous "Godzilla 1999" and Godzilla: The Series are not currently listed on the service, though Return of G is shown in the promos. Pluto usually rotates content every month, so it's likely these films will appear on the channel later. Likewise other films may be taken off temporarily. There's no good reason for it.

-The Godzilla Channel is part of the Movies section of Pluto, so it's a bit odd that they will have a television series as part of the line up.

-The channel also includes Rodan and War of the Gargantuas. Not surprising, but for some reason they were not listed in the original announcement.

-The sub/dub situation is rather weird. All of the Showa Godzilla films are sub-only (besides KOTM '56). The Heisei Godzilla films (that are currently on the channel) are also sub only, along with Rebirth of Mothra II and III. Mothra '61 is the dubbed Columbia version, Godzilla 2000 is the dubbed Tristar version, and GMK and Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla are both dubbed only. The other Millennium films are subbed only. Rodan is subbed, WOTG is dubbed. I know I caught Son of Godzilla and Destroy All Monsters dubbed on Pluto last month. I imagine the sub/dub versions will also rotate out every month.

-The title subtitle for "Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth" has been changed to "Godzilla vs. Mothra" There have been a few other small changes made in the subtitles for some of the films, though nothing major. 'Godzilla vs. Mothra' also doesn't go silent during the credits, though they're still the black English roll without the background footage used in the Toho version.

-The Heisei ('90-95) and Millennium films have the Sony Television logos attached. Either Sony still have TV rights to the films or whoever is handling the rights now were provided the pre-existing Sony copies. They all use the Tristar opening. Shame that Return and Biollante aren't on the channel yet, since they should have the Janus logo.

-Janus is likely leaving the other Ishiro Honda SFX films as a Criterion Channel exclusive until they release a Blu-ray set (if). Though I'm not sure if we could expect the channel to ever get The H-Man and Battle in Outer Space from Sony considering it only has Mothra for now.

-It dawned on me that Pluto is treated as a television streaming platform as opposed to VOD streaming, Might be a loophole to eventually get King Kong vs Godzilla onto the channel, as Universal does have TV rights (but not digital VOD rights), but as far as I can remember Universal has never licensed any content to Pluto. But I don't think Sony joined in until recently, so that could change.

Pluto TV is adding a 24-hour Godzilla channel, coming July 1st.

-includes every Toho Godzilla film from 1954-2004 EXCEPT for King Kong vs Godzilla

-Includes all four Mothra solo movies

-Includes the 1998 Godzilla: The Series

-List has "Godzilla 1999". Not sure if that's a typo and it's supposed to be the 1998 Tristar film, or if it's referring to the Japanese version of Godzilla 2000.

All of the Heisei films are labeled as Pluto exclusives, which means Sony's rights have expired. The question is, who is handling the digital rights for them now? Janus controls the streaming rights for the Showa films (besides KKvG), and I'm guessing Sony is involved with the Millennium films since the original Mothra and G:tS is there. This is the first time Return of Godzilla and Biollante have ever streamed in the US.

After 14 years The Asylum finally gives us Transmorphers 3.

Shame that I can't remember what the first two were even about.

The secret to a good Transformers movie is to only use Michael Bay's money but don't let him anywhere near the project.

That's not to say Rise of the Beast is "good". It's decent, nothing remarkable. The action and scope don't compare to the Bay films, they're on a much smaller scale though a bit bigger than Bumblebee. The strengths are with the story and characters. While it is another McGuffin quest the story progression is somewhat more coherent than what we usually get. The human characters are interesting, though feel a little forced in at times. The Transformers improve with every movie, with better personalities and plenty of dialog (even if it's not always good dialog).

There is a surprise that teases what's next. Even though I knew they've been talking about doing it, I wasn't expecting them to cement the idea with this movie, so I was caught off-guard. More on that in the spoilers section.

It's hard to know who to recommend it to. If you're a Transformers fan, you should find this more respectful to the franchise that's worth checking out. For a general audience member, I'm not sure if there's much on offer for you here.

Also I was alone in the theater with two other people. It was the first 3D showing of the day. Would be a shame if this movie bombed.

"Planet of Dinosaurs" (1977)

Man, I wish this could get a good HD remaster. Not sure the materials even exist to do that, though.

But I have always adored this flick.

When Retromedia did their restored widescreen-format DVD they had to source from several different places. There doesn't seem to be good quality 'complete' material available for a full HD restoration.

At least, none that have been found yet. There have been plenty of similar cases where someone recently found the missing elements needed. I've been campaigning for Vinegar Syndrome to do it considering they've already restored a few titles Retromedia previously worked on and they seem pretty good at finding things. It would fit nicely in their new VS Labs sublabel.

Feels a bit of a retread, but that has never stopped me from seeing something. Bit disappointed that it appears they replaced the Kronosaurus from the novel some some Kraken-like monster.

Will this still count as a dinosaur movie? Megalodons didn't actually live during the Mesozoic, so the opening scene in the trailer couldn't have really happened. If the Kronosaurus was in the movie, then it would be a different story - but it looks like there are still going to be dinosaurs in modern times. It depends on how big of a part they have in the movie. Aquaman (2018) had Tylosaurus and a dinosaur island but they made up only a few seconds of screen time in a 2.5 hour movie and provided nothing more than scenery. I couldn't count it as a dinosaur movie.

Somewhat willing to bet the first GxK trailer might be attached to this, though maybe August would be too early for that.

Monogram Godzilla bagclips series 5 features three memes and creates two more. But you actually need to find two of the Shobijin this time.

The trailer opens with two land-bound prehistoric monsters eating a large bug, with onscreen text warning that for 65 million years one species ruled the world. The T-rex? No, the Meg which eats a T-rex. Jason Statham is recruited again by Cliff Curtis to hunt another giant creature in the trench. But then, deep underwater, the team starts getting picked off by the biggest meg anyone has ever seen. We then get various monsters attacking by land and by sea, with Statham almost getting eaten by a shark. We get more scenes of tourists almost getting eaten, and a tentacled creature eating a helicopter. The teaser ends with Statham leaping into the air on a jet ski to face off against a shark with a sword.

Godzilla vs. Kong playing cards. Nothing too creative about them but it's nice that this film is still getting merch two years later.
