I’m struggling to understand why secular leftism has become so appealing for people my age. The average leftist I stumble across has a variety of self-admitted mental health problems and is absolutely miserable, probably because their entire worldview revolves around hyper focusing on an ever-changing standard of “problems” within society and lamenting about how the world will never get better until everyone’s entire way of life is completely dismantled and rebuilt to fit, again, a standard of morality and living that changes every five minutes at the whims of whatever protest group is getting the most coverage at any given point.
You’re ostracized from your friend groups if you don’t performatively show your support for the latest “movement,” you’re expected to tirelessly keep up to date on every single tragedy in the world or else you’re “privileged,” you’re by default a worthless and evil piece of shit if you aren’t a POC and/or some form of LGBT+, and even then, certain members of those groups get ostracized if they’re not “dark enough” or not “gay enough” or not trans. You’re encouraged to start shit with family members and even cut them off completely if they don’t support every little pet protest your friends have rallied behind. What’s more, there’s no greater purpose in life beyond Supporting The Cause. The dogma of your religion is contributing to the latest hashtag about BLM or COVID or Palestine or trans rights. You’re discouraged from finding purpose in faith or family or patriotism, and you’re not a “good person” unless you’re over-the-edge angry and distraught all the time.
Idk, I just don’t see the appeal of any of this, lol. 🤷🏼♀️
Alright now imma make the same post about conservatives but from my perspective as a secular liberal.
I'm struggling to understand why anyone would want to believe in a political system that basically needs a religion in order to justify more than half of its tenets, especially in a country that's so firmly dedicated to separation of church and state. It's impossible to question your faith without having to question your underlying political values, or vice versa, leaving you stuck in a ethical rut unless you feel like undermining your entire moral system. The average rightoid is emotionally constipated and repressing years of trauma without ever trying to address it, using their emotions, bad experiences, or prejudices to justify their hyper-specific worldview. Even the smallest of changes is rejected by their fragile inability to losen up.
You're ostracized from your friend group, or worse, called a heretic by your church, if you don't support every latest conservative talking point in the culture war. You're you have to believe every LGBT person to be a secret pedophile or groomed into their sexuality/gender, and even the conservative gay people who are on your side can't have their relationships acknowledged in front of your own children, in case it "grooms" them into being gay. You're encouraged to argue with your family members and ostracize them if they disagree with any facet of your narrow worldview. What's more, your only purpose is to bring back a fictionalized version of society that has never existed, where everyone was 'good', before all those gays/blacks/immigrants/whores/pornography ruined the people and the government and the youth - depending on your flavor of rightoidism. The dogma of your religion is that there's a dude in the sky who doesn't want you to do things because He doesn't like them and will torture you forever if you do those things. You're discouraged from looking beyond your religion, your country, your favorite talking heads and politicians, in case you find an idea that counters or disproves your own.
There's nothing about the modern conservative right that has any appeal to anyone who's gay, trans, uses drugs, likes having sex, or doesn't believe in a god - which is the majority of young people, and the numbers are only growing as church attendance drops.
Okay, degenerate.
people who are like "oh but you can just buy x thing online" are missing the point. its about the joy and journey
"just find it on amazon" what next. do you want me to throw rocks at babies too
This made me think of the thing Kurt Vonnegut said about buying envelops
Every so often (ever since I read that book about Catholic scientists) I think about the guy who discovered the cause of Down's Syndrome and get very sad.
Jérôme Lejeune did his research because he loved children with Down's Syndrome! He wanted to help them! Discovering the genetic cause was a huge breakthrough, and helping to develop the prenatal test was intended to give parents a chance to prepare for caring for a child with Down's Syndrome.
And then his test was used to kill children with Down's Syndrome.
He got the highest honor in genetics because of it, and he used his acceptance speech to tell the world's assembled scientists that their use of his test was evil. Which made everyone mad and destroyed his chances of winning a Nobel. But he stood for life. He stood for the disabled. He stood for the children. Even at the cost of his career. Because his work intended to save the children he loved was being used to destroy them and how do you deal with that? It just breaks my heart every time I think about it.
“It’s not about personhood, it’s about bodily autonomy!”
No, it most definitely is about personhood.
Once you make personhood dependent on arbitrary conditions, like a person’s age, you make it easier to legally revoke anybody’s personhood based on any other arbitrary standard, like their race, gender, social class, or degree of ableness — all of which are often given by pro choice advocates as reasonable justifications for abortion.
Either all human life has inherent value, or none of us does. It’s really that simple.
i think the most shocking thing to me about that graph from the canadian government calculating money saved via murdering the mentally ill is that... like they have an expected number to do the calculations off of. they have a quota of people to kill to reduce the costs of healthcare.
that graph wasn't just a reflection on how much they saved, it'll absolutely be used as a goal to save more.
6,465 people murdered by doctors in canada in 2021. the mentally ill become eligible in march 2023. how much will that increase by?
Nazi Euthanasia programs: Exists
Canadian government:
I need you guys to listen so bad, but I’m at least glad people on Twitter are starting to talk about this. The government of Canada is expanding Medically Assisted Death to cull the poor and disabled, and now suicidal and mentally ill (these are usually interchangeable of course here). It is EUGENICS and every single disabled rights organization is against it.
Disability payments are $1,200 a month. The average one bedroom apartment rent in the Greater Toronto Area (greatest pop. area by far here) is $2,000 a month. People with mental illnesses are on months long waitlists to get even a single publicly funded session. Weeks to get privately funded care which costs at least $200 a session. There is no housing here for disabled people. We are in one of the worst housing crises in the world right now.
Doctors are now offering MAiD unprompted to young suicidal people. This woman is 21, a health practitioner literally suggested she kill herself.
This is one of the worst Disability Rights Violations we’ve ever seen in Canada. The government is killing us because it is cheaper than funding healthcare, cheaper than giving people housing and food and basic human rights.
"Literally just don't eat, that will solve climate change"
… farming actually reduces carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and turns it to oxygen. The Corn Belt in North America produces more oxygen than the Amazon Rainforest in the month of July.
Indigenous land keeping traditions? Sustainable farming methods? Homesteading? Letting wildlife overtake pristine lawns? Too ghetto for the elites I guess!
Everyone should remember that politicians are not only liars they also have no imagination whatsoever so you can usually just count on them to do the opposite of what they said they would do at pretty much every turn.
Didn’t he say though that if someone could show him how his money would be used to resolve world hunger/homelessness/etc., that he would do it..?
Needless to say, they never got back to him.

Here’s a thing that hasn’t been mentioned much yet about Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
So this is the European age rating for this game, as rated by PEGI. PEGI 7 is for content that ‘has scenes that could be frightning for young children’, and is more common for some modern Kirby games (as opposed to PEGI 3), but the thing that’s very interesting is the parts next to it.
Think of these two other boxes as modifiers, additional warnings for the specific contents of a game. The first one is Violence. For PEGI 7, this is limited to unrealistic violence, and was the addition to Star Allies, as well as a few other games.
The second one is Fear.
Fear is defined by PEGI as “contains pictures or sounds that may be frightening or scary to young children” (quoting straight from their offical guidelines).
This is the first time Fear has been added to the Age Rating of a Kirby game.
what is in this game that made them add fear as a warning
Christianity isn’t about “blind faith.” We have history backing us up here.
a 500 word short story with the same plot as your novel that explores how quickly the problem could be solved by sonic the hedgehog
knuckles gamgee
sonic heritage post
I’ve never seen this one before and it just punched me in the fucking face.
There was, of course, a time when Kirby, like any powerful child, got a little too prideful about his supposed “infinite power”, and Mythra, clearly annoyed by this, went “Master Hand, remove the power limiters during me and Kirby’s next match. Someone’s gotta teach this kid some discipline. Also, let Rex tag this time.”
Kirby learned a very valuable lesson that day. No, not discipline like Mythra had hoped.
You DO NOT mess with Pneuma.

This dude really thinks little miss anime titties could beat Kirby
