Fully degenerate death-of-the-west group blog. Read our about before following. If you're here from Garlic Cock Man, consider pitching us a quid at ko-fi.com/misterlucian. Anon is off. Cheers.

We're still alive! We don't check tumblr much because I, Lucian, just kinda fell out of the habit for various reasons. Here's a quick update:

1. New job for me, the lucian, after redundancy in 2019 and pandemig only-doing-art business - I now run a lgbtq research programme at a famous university and it is riotous good fun, even though much of my job is t 3 rf hunting

2. Boyfriend has a job, not just any job but a brilliant, incredible, perfect job which is an exemplary start to their career in all conceivable ways, except that it is in Oslo, so they've moved to Oslo, and I have gone completely insane with misery

3. I've learnt to carve wood

4. Now on thee Elvanse and as such my brain works Way Better and I am capable of so much. I am not, however, capable of not being catastrophically depressed while boyfriend is all small and far away

5. Getting on weirdly well with me mum

I think those are all the important things. I'm on instagram and patreon with greater reliability.

In April 2021, I decided I wanted to make a zine of my spiritual response to Cats: the Musical.

When I was a child, Cats: the Musical had a special place in my heart because I interpreted it as a catalogue of semi-divine folk heroes or ancestral, inherited archetypes *for cats*. Of course it's nonsensical and overwrought to human audiences. It's *for cats*.

On the 6th of April, I streamed a live painted interpretation of the different Cats to the backing of "off-brand" Cats: the Musical songs. The lyrics remained unaltered, but the "music" was improvised atonal splunging on various instruments by my significantly unmusical, untrained partners. I worked on each Cat for the duration of their corresponding Hymn, with the intention of illustrating their individual energy as true to my "third eye"'s raw capture as possible. The result is 13 Cats, horribly illustrated, in pure ink wash with no construction, ready for YOU to use as a divinatory oracle. Instructions are enclosed.

My intention with this zine is to encourage you to approach oracles and divination in more playful, humourous ways. Creating emotional and magical connections through humour and play is very important, I think, in keeping magic accessible and fresh.

Contains a download code for a terrible surprise. Horrid accompanying sticker of Jemima, the adorable little white cat that does ballet that everyone's gay for (pictured) is here.

A psa to my youngest followers:

- An older adult solely hanging with younger teens (I’m talking 25yo & 15yo) and who doesn’t seem to have any other adult friend is a red flag.

- An older adult talking to a younger teen and saying stuff like “you’re the only one who understands me” “I’d hurt myself if you weren’t there” “You’re my only friend” is a red flag.

- Someone (regardless of age) who constantly ends up in discourse & drama is a red flag.

- If you’re afraid to talk to your friend(s), if you feel like you’ve got to tiptoe as to not set them off and get yelled at/ostracized/worse, that’s a red flag.

Please take care.

I won't be sharing all the portraits I do of all my people for Patreon, primarily because I will absolutely forget to cross post them, but also because, you know, they're for Patreon. Thank you for your understanding.

Anyway I wanted to share this one because I love it a lot. I was inspired by the partially damaged murals of the Muses discovered in Pompeii.

I see I've had another influx of followers from my most popular input to this website ever. I assure you, my art account is more interesting!

Fantasy Morris stickers are live over in the tawdry cavern of commerce! Just the ticket to brighten up your life if you, as I, miss the magic of the Morris. Pictured with two sheaves of wheat from the Whittlesea Strawbear from last year!

Four designs, shipping worldwide at the moment - but check if your country is accepting post from the UK before buying!  I personally cannot be held responsible for the consequences of the Special Mutant British Plague, despite my nature and gifts.

Grab a couple here.  Artwork in its raw, nude, scurrilous form here.

My end of year project, actually finished for the end of the year! Black Orc team from the new BloodBowl edition. So pleased with these Ladz, especially the troll, so he gets more photos.

I painted my first ever minature in Jan 2020, so this has probably been my most developed skill this year :)

Your skills are absolutely fucking off the chain!!!!!

I am mere centimeters away from writing a full on essay about how the “goblins are inherently antisemitic” myth spawned by this website propagates misinformation, displays a huge misunderstanding of what folklore is and does, and contributes to an environment that distracts people from how antisemitism actually operates and the ways in which it’s dangerously on the rise in our current climate–something which, surprise surprise, has almost nothing to do with little green fairy men

There are antisemitic iterations of the goblin! There are also antisemitic iterations of basically everything in European folklore, because if there was one thing people in Europe loved it was hating Jews! But those aren’t definitive and the problem there didn’t originate with the invention of the goblin–which was an evolution of other existing fairy myths, overlaps with them, and isn’t nearly as distinct, differentiated, or universally codified as people seem to think. It originated with people hating Jews, and using pre-existing stories and myths to express that hatred. Most of the time, though, they just wrote about Jews, because they didn’t need a secret magical creature code to be terrible to us. They could just do that! The way that people on this website are obsessed with a single, “original” version of a story, which can then be deemed morally acceptable or unacceptable, goes fundamentally against the way folklore is created, propagated, modified, and used to fit different locations at different times. There isn’t a single “problematic” goblin canon you can point to! They aren’t defined that simply! And no, A Certain Popular Fantasy Series doesn’t count! By focusing on the goblin as the problematic thing, and not the stories about Jews that the antisemitic goblin myths–which are rarer than people seem to think–draw off of, the Discourse™ focuses on a single pass/fail signifier of wokeness instead of actually educating people on the complex narratives that have built different iterations of antisemitism over the centuries. It is also, and I cannot stress this enough, not how folklore works. Learn about blood libel, learn about the myth of the Protocols, learn about how antisemitism uses Jews as the powerful other to justify other forms of prejudice and oppression, and don’t write stories about money-obsessed people with hooked noses. Goblins themselves don’t factor into that as anything other than a footnote.

“Coincidentally, Morrison sent out Gligar and Growlithe during his battle with Gavin; the names of both Pokémon and also Gavin begin with the letter “G”. The same happens with Gavin, who sent out Marowak and Machamp, whose names begin with the letter “M”, the same letter as Morrison’s name.”

As some of you know one of my hobbies/interests (if you can call it that), is listening to bands in smaller, weirder genres that usually do limited releases on vinyl or cassette, and the nice overall bonus of that smaller artists tend to support each other, and often overlap despite genre and you stumble into some cool shit you might not have searched out yourself (which is actually a similarity it shares with my other “hobby,” which is, uh, weird/cool Norse academic shit).

In any case, neo-folk is not actually my preferred genre, but that’s just personal preference and I know it’s not only something that a lot of people who are into Norse or witchcraft/other related shit like, but it’s a genre that like metal has had some serious issues with fascism but has actually been developing a pretty active antifascist scene in the last few years. A Blaze Ansuz is an excellent blog for starting to find some of these bands (including adjacent genres) if you haven’t checked them out yet, and obviously this release comes out from Alsarath today on cassette form, but you can check it out on Bandcamp now and read an interview with them here, as well– Realm and Ritual is specifically doing the cassette release, but their Bandcamp’ll send you to a lot of other bands they’ve done releases for that have a pretty high chance of not being assholes, and cover genres like the above neo-folk, black metal, dungeon synth, and other similar stuff.

Anyway, whether you get a cool cassette or not, it’s definitely worth a listen (along with the related black metal project Feminazgul)– I’m actually enjoying this quite a bit even if it’s not usually my thing, and I figure it’s a pretty low-effort but good thing for me to share the antifascist stuff I run across in the smaller scenes in case anyone else digs it, so I’ll try to do that more often.

i want to thank the 1920s-1930s third wheel who saw their two friends lying in bed together in their underwear and stocking garters reading a book with their legs wrapped around each other and said “i am going to take a photograph of this”

i hope wherever they are now that everyone involved in the taking of this photograph knows how much joy it is bringing me 80-100 years later
