Cedric Diggory X OC [teaser]

Alright so, I have this whole Cedric x Original Character story that'd I'd like to finish and post one day but I've decided to post one of it's chapters here for fun? Idk. Just go with it.

The story is a bit of a mess right now, with some chapters being written and a lot of them...not. Okay the point is, I'm not entirely sure which chapter this will end up being exactly but here's the overal gist: set in Goblet of Fire, OC (Lois) is in 5th year, Cedric is in 6th year (obvi) and they're on their way to the Quidditch World Cup with Amos. I think the rest is explained in the chapter, but that should be enough context.

Anyways, enjoy!

Chapter X: Journey to the Cup

When the 25th of August arrived, Amos, Cedric and Lois started the journey from the Diggory’s holiday manor nearby Ottery St Catchpole, to Stoatshead Hill very early in the morning. So early that Cedric, who was much more awake and alert with excitement, had to constantly check that Lois, who was far less excited and ridiculously sleep deprived, hadn’t fallen asleep as they walked for hours in the dark. It became easier for her to stay awake when the sun started to rise, brightening the sky.

When they made it to the top of the hill, Lois leant against Cedric, who put a supporting arm around her, as she regained her breath while Amos cheered that they were fifteen minutes early.

Cedric and Lois sat down by a tree for a quick break while Amos started searching around for the Portkey.

“I know this is the first time a match has been played here in thirty years,” Lois started, leaning her head back against the trunk of the large tree they were sat under, “but is it really worth all this trouble?”

“Come on,” Cedric replied with a smile next to her, “you were looking forward to it a week ago.”

“I wasn’t sleep-deprived and utterly out of breath a week ago,” Lois complained, turning her head to look at Cedric who was gazing down at her with an amused expression, “in fact, this time a week ago, I was asleep in a nice warm bed.”

“Actually, we fell asleep in the library, remember?” Cedric reminded her, “reading about the 1792 Triwizard Tournament.”

“Oh, that’s right,” Lois offered tiredly, closing her eyes and leaning back against the tree, “the rampaging cockatrice.”

“Are you two actually doing anything?” Amos walked back toward them.

“Yes,” Cedric answered, innocently.

“No,” Lois corrected.

“Up you get then,” Amos encouraged, “we’ll cover more ground if all three of us are looking.”

Cedric jumped up while Lois gave a sigh. He looked down at her expectantly.

“Alright, alright,” Lois sat up off the tree and lifted a hand up toward Cedric, “a hand, please?”

After a quick eye roll, he grabbed Lois’ hand and pulled her up toward him with so much force that he lifted her over his shoulder.

“Ced!” Lois called after a squeak, “put me down!”

“We’ll search over here,” Lois could hear Cedric’s playful grin in his voice.

“Alright, I’ll head this way,” Lois caught Amos walking off toward the left, away from Cedric who still had her slung over his shoulder.

“Okay, you’ve made your point,” Lois spoke as Cedric carried her through the trees, “I will stop complaining about being tired. Now, down please.”

Cedric placed her gently back on her feet, wearing his signature half-smirk, “great, now let’s find this portkey.”

“Well, you’re the Hufflepuff here,” Lois teased, “do your thing.”

Cedric shook his head with a chuckle and turned to start searching. Lois looked in the opposite direction, searching the forest floor for any ordinary, worn looking object that could be the Portkey. With no luck, Lois quickly grew impatient, looking up at the trees’ branches.

“You know, looking on the ground might help,” Lois turned toward Cedric who was knelt by a larger tree, “floating portkeys seems a bit conspicuous to me.”

Lois ignored the comment and walked up to the tree he was knelt by, “this might be easier if we had a higher vantage point. Give me a boost?”

Lois reached a hand around the tree’s lowest branch. She looked down to see Cedric had folded his hands together to help boost Lois up into the tree. She placed her right foot into his hands, and he lifted her up with a grunt. Lois pulled herself up onto the branch and then climbed to a higher one that had a good view of the forest’s floor. She heard Cedric huff and looked over to see he was pulling himself up onto the lower branch. He moved to another branch that looked over the opposite side of the forest to Lois.

“Anything?” Lois asked, unable to see any Portkey herself.

“Yes, I see something,” Cedric looked over his shoulder at Lois, “but it isn’t a Portkey.”

Lois heard the numerous footsteps trudging through the forest. She climbed over to Cedric’s branch as she heard a panting voice, “It won’t be big … come on …”

Lois recognised most of the group that was spreading out in the forest, searching. Fellow Gryffindors Harry, Hermione, Ron, Fred, George and Ginny. Lois faintly remembered the man who was speaking from some Ministry parties she attended as a child, Arthur Weasley.

Cedric looked back toward at Lois, “we should find my dad.”

Lois nodded and the two began climbing their way to the lowest branch of the tree when they heard Amos’ voice again, “over here, Arthur! Over here, kids, we got it!”

Amos approached the group, a mouldy-looking boot in his hand. Mr Weasley walked toward him, “Amos!”

The rest of the group had caught up to Arthur and Amos, who were shaking hands.

“This is Amos Diggory, everyone,” Mr Weasley explained to his group, “Works for the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.”

Cedric jumped off the lowest branch and landed next to his father, Lois jumping after and landing next to him. The first thing she noticed as she looked at the group was Harry’s eye immediately drawing to her and a small smile forming on his lips.

“Ah, and I think you know his son Cedric,” Mr Weasley nodded curtly in Cedric’s direction.

“Hi,” Cedric smiled at the group.

“And you must be Lois Edwards,” Mr Weasley started again, smiling brightly at her.

“Yes, sir,” Lois nodded politely at the man before turning to her fellow Gryffindors, “morning everyone.”

The Weasley children, as well as Harry and Hermione all greeted Lois and Cedric, the twins giving Cedric sour looks. It seemed they still weren’t on good terms after facing each other on the Quidditch pitch the previous year.

“Long walk, Arthur?” Amos asked, giving Mr Weasley a friendly pat on the back.

“Not too bad,” Mr Weasley answered, “We live just on the other side of the village there. You?”

“Had to get up at two, didn’t we, kids?” Amos looked at his son and Lois, who gave a tired huff, “Lois here will tell you all about it.”

Cedric nudged Lois gently and she broke out of her tired trance and looked up at the group. Harry was still smiling at her, “urr … it was a journey, that’s for sure.”

“I tell you; I’ll be glad when they’ve both got their Apparition test,” Amos placed a hand on Cedric’s shoulder, “Still … not complaining … Quidditch World Cup, wouldn’t miss it for a sackful of Galleons – and the tickets cost about that. Mind you, Lois’ mum, Esther … she’s an Unspeakable, gets paid a sackful of Galleons an hour for her work down in the Department of Mysteries. She paid for both Lois and Cedric’s tickets. It’s impossible to pay for anything yourself when she’s around.”

Amos chuckled and Lois looked down, feeling heat rise in her cheeks. She knew enough about the Weasleys to know that their family wasn’t as fortunate as her own. She even knew that her mother, being the incredibly kind and considerate woman she was, had offered them loans on numerous occasions, but of course they never accepted.

Amos looked around at Arthur’s group and furrowed his eyebrows, “All these yours, Arthur?”

“Oh, no, only the redheads,” Mr Weasley explained, gesturing to his group and then nodding encouragingly at Lois, “Lois should recognise them, all being in Gryffindor.”

Cedric gave Lois, who had been tiredly staring into space again, another gentle nudge and Lois stirred, “right, of course, introductions. Amos this is Fred and George, they are in sixth year with Ced. That’s Ginny, she’s in third year and Ron, Hermione and Harry are fourth year.”

“Merlin’s beard,” Amos gasped with wide eyes, “Harry? Harry Potter?”

Harry who had still been looking at Lois, drew his eyes toward Amos with an uncomfortable expression, “er- yeah.”

“Ced and Lois have talked about you, of course,” Amos went on. Cedric and Lois gave each other strained expressions, “told us all about playing against you last year … I said to him, I said – Ced, that’ll be something to tell your children, that will … you beat Harry Potter!”

Cedric and Lois looked embarrassed. Cedric for obvious reasons and Lois because, when Amos mentioned children, Cedric glanced at Lois with warm eyes and pink cheeks. In response, Lois’ stomach did a little flip.

“Harry fell off his broom, Dad,” Cedric muttered, “I told you … it was an accident …”

“Yes, but you didn’t fall off, did you?” Amos boasted, patting Cedric aggressively on the back, “Always modest, our Ced, always the gentleman, right Lois?”

Lois swallowed awkwardly before nodding in confirmation.

“But the best man won, I’m sure Harry’d say the same, wouldn’t you, eh?” Harry didn’t move, just stared awkwardly at Amos, who kept talking, “One falls off his broom, one stays on, you don’t need to be a genius to tell which one’s the better flier!”

Cedric coughed uncomfortably and Lois offered him a gentle smile, trying to distract him.

“Must be nearly time,” Mr Weasley started, looking down at his watch, “Do you know whether we’re waiting for anymore, Amos? Will Alfred be joining us?”

“No, Alfred couldn’t get time off from the office,” Lois raised her head upon hearing her father’s name, “Barty’s working him hard with the … well, you know…coming up. The Lovegoods have been there for a week already and the Fawcetts couldn’t get tickets. There aren’t any more of us in this area, are there?”

“Not that I know of,” replied Mr Weasley, “yes, it’s a minute off … we’d better get ready…”

The Weasleys and Cedric started to crowd around the old boot in Amos’ hand, leaving Harry and Hermione to look at each other with puzzled expressions. Lois gestured them over to the group and the two moved to stand next to her in the circle of people.

“You only need to touch the portkey, just a finger will work,” she explained, reaching out and touching the boot. When the two copied her gesture, she nodded encouragingly.

“Nice work, prefect,” Cedric whispered into her ear.

Lois smiled up at him as Arthur started counting down. She felt the hook-like force of the Portkey lift her off the ground and relaxed her body, giving a little laugh when she caught sight of Harry, Ron and Hermione bumping shoulders in the air.

When the time came, she let go of the Portkey and leant backwards so as to fall up right. She heard all the Weasley kids plus Harry and Hermione grunt and groan as they all hit the ground. She couldn’t help giggle as she floated down gracefully by Cedric’s side.

“I’ll bet that cleared your sinuses, ay?” Mr Weasley spoke as the four of them landed.

Cedric offered Harry a hand as Lois helped Hermione and Ginny up, talking to them encouragingly, “don’t worry, I couldn’t land upright until at least my fifth try.”

They all walked up ground to where two wizards were dressed in muggle clothing.

“Seven past five from Stoatshead Hill,” one of the wizards announced.

Cedric caught up to Lois, walking by her side as she fiddled with her hair, taking it out of its ponytail and running her hands through it. She noticed Cedric watching her when she tucked the front strands behind her ears.

“What?” She asked, looking at him expectantly.

“Nothing,” he shrugged with another smirk.

Lois reached up and ran a hand through his windswept hair as well, fixing it so it rested naturally on his head the way she liked it.
