even a traitor may mend.

someday you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.

To the glistening Eastern sea, I give you Queen Lucy, the valiant. To the great Western wood, King Edmund The Just. To the radiant Southern sun, Queen Susan, the gentle, and to the clear Northern sky, I give you King Peter, the magnificent. Once a king or queen of Narnia, always a king or queen, may your wisdom grace us till the stars rain down from the heavens.

“If the Witch knew the true meaning of sacrifice, she might have interpreted the deep magic differently. That when a willing victim who has committed no treachery, is killed in a traitor’s stead, the stone table will crack, and even death itself would turn backwards.”

As a Hufflepuff Primary, Peter is driven by duty and a responsibility to become what his people need him to be, to live up to their expectations, to make decisions that best serve them. He values fairness and embodies service and solidity, which inspires others to follow him. He has a Gryffindor Secondary’s honesty, boldness and stubbornness, and can charge at something directly and passionately if it is something he cares about or believes in. Kingly and noble, he can be nobody but himself.

As a Slytherin Primary, Susan is fiercely loyal to her inner circle. Her morality is primarily directed towards protecting and caring for the people she cares most about, and an abandonment of this ideal is seen as the worst kind of betrayal. Thus, when she feels Narnia has deserted her, her inner circle shrinks inwards as an act of self-preservation until it is she alone inside it. For this reason, people may view her as selfish and apathetic and her ambition to be a grown-up as small and shallow. Logical and practical, Susan is a Ravenclaw Secondary who finds strength and value in gathering knowledge or skills. As a Ravenclaw who respects systems, she follows social scripts closely, particularly those of the concerned older sister and the gentle, lady-like queen.

Edmund becomes the embodiment of justice, considering values and moral ideals and building his moral compass as a Ravenclaw Primary would. He is driven by the search for truth and meaning, particularly after his encounter with the White Witch, who forced him to look at himself and question his choices and his morality. The morality he develops to become King Edmund the Just, therefore, is a choice: constructed, learned and unwavering, but not instinctual. Because he acts based on what is true rather than what is felt, he can come across as logical, cold and sometimes calculating. In addition to these attributes, he has a Slytherin Secondary’s flexibility and competency. He is able to respond quickly to a given situation, coming at it from different angles with his creativity and adaptability. Observant and strategic, he weighs up the options before taking action.

With her confidence and steadfast belief in her own internal, intuitive morality, Lucy is a clear Gryffindor Primary. Because she trusts wholeheartedly in her beliefs, she has no trouble living by them. She does what she feels is right and, as a Hufflepuff Secondary, she is able to inspire trust in others, allowing her to implement the change she wants to see in the world. She is able to make friends and build communities by making people feel safe, by being a steady and consistent presence who is unafraid of hard work, and by exemplifying fairness and integrity.
