Whatever, with really little filters. Sorry but I don't tag!

thought i’d share another thing i made here :’)

i started working on this thing back in january, as russian troops were gathering around our borders, and i got around to finishing it a couple months later, after they retreated from kyiv and my lucky family and i were able to get back home.

for half of the process i was asking myself, “is making this even worth it if it’s going to be bombed to ashes in a couple of weeks?” (the answer was yes); for the other half, i was asking myself how and why do you even make a house now that there are dead and gutted houses all around (the answer was “well, what else is there to do anyway”).

was aiming for the “small ukrainian granny’s apartment” vibe with soviet era “ugly 70s brown” color furniture and a bit of a witchy/magical realism touch :’) details + a bit of ukrainian folk trivia below!

I absolutely love this!

And I will get this as a little reminder that art, all Art, is always more than it appears.

Violet Beauregarde should‘ve won Wonka’s chocolate factory

Have I watched the movie in the last decade or more? No. Do I have iron clad evidence to support my argument? Yes.

1. She’s the most knowledgeable about candy. She’s committed to it, and knows her stuff. When Wonka holds up a little yellow piece across the room, she recognizes it immediately. She was able to switch to candy bars for the sake of the contest, so we know she has personal discipline and is goal oriented. Also, two major projects play directly into her strong suits: the 3-course-meal gum that Wonka failed to make safe (gum) and the neverending gobstopper (longevity).

2. She’s the most fit to run a business. Violet is competitive, determined, hard working, and willing to take risks. Her father is a small town car salesman and politician, so she could easily pick up knowledge and support from him. (Veruca’s dad is also a business man, and in a compatible market (nuts), but it’s made very clear that Veruca has no respect or knowledge of business practices or hard work.)

3. She’s the most sympathetic to the Oompa Loompas. She critiques Veruca when Veruca demands to buy one. More importantly, Wonka has been testing the 3-course-meal gum that ‘always goes wrong’ on Oompa Loompas while he presumably just watches. Violet is ready to put herself on the front line, instead of treating the Oompa Loompas as disposable, and would therefore be a better boss.

4. Her personality ‘flaw’ is the most fitting for the company. In the moralizing Oompa Loompa song, they just say ‘gum is pretty cool, but it’s not socially acceptable to chew it all day‘. The thing is, we already know that she can stop if she wants, because she already did that to win the golden ticket. And yeah, she is defensive about the perceived impoliteness of her hobby (like when her mother tries to shame her about her habit during a televised interview) but the obsession with candy and neglect of social norms is EXACTLY what Wonka is all about. This is on brand.

5. Her misstep in the factory is reasonable. Wonka shows everyone a candy he’s very proud of. Violet is like “oh sick, that’s gum, my special interest.” Wonka then pulls a “WRONG! It’s amazing gum!” In the very moments before she takes the gum Wonka has mislead her just to belittle her. So when he’s like “I wouldn’t do that” why should she give a shit what he has to say? She’s not like Charlie over here who’s all “Sure Gramps, let’s stay behind while the tour leaves and secretly drink this thing that has been explicitly stated to fill you with gas and is too powerful for safe consumption, oh and also I just saw what happened to Violet so I actually KNOW what this stuff can be capable of” Also, Violet is not selfish about her experience, she tells everyone what she’s tasting and feeling, and everyone is eager to hear it. Taking a personal risk to share knowledge with everyone. Violet is Prometheus: fact.

So Augustus contaminates the chocolate river. Charlie sneaks around and contaminates the vent walls. Veruca destroys and disrupts the workspace. Mike knows exactly what will happen to him and transports/shrinks himself deliberately. Violet had no idea what the gum could potentially do to her, and caused no harm to anyone or anything but herself.

Lastly: Can you imagine Charlie filling Wonka’s shoes? That passive, naive boy? Violet is already basically Wonka. She’s passionate, sarcastic, candy-obsessed, free thinking, and a total firecracker. She’s even better than Wonka, because she doesn’t endanger others.

Violet should’ve been picked to inherit the chocolate factory.

i love when the tumblr girlies get into a show middle aged american men like (MASH, columbo, breaking bad, supernatural to all our bewilderment, etc) but do it in a way that would make those dads go into shock requiring medical intervention

i see a convo w a character ai and i keep scrolling

listen im seeing tags about people agreeing that ai bots can be really inaccurate and i want to point out that this is NOT about that. the ai bot can be as accurate as you want it to be i still get mad at em.

its not about how good they do at emulating a character, its about that they aren’t a person making creative choices and i hate that. i want to enjoy my characters with other people. hold my hand and tell me all about why you think your blorbo is autistic or likes your favourite shitty band. i love you. if a bot randomly shuffles those opinions out idc if theyre even the same ones im exploding it with my mind.

What’s the point of loving content if I know there isn’t someone as obsessively fucked up as me sitting on the other side of the internet

you know how kids tend to subconsciously adopt the mannerisms of their parents? i wonder how far back that stretches.

do i laugh like my great grandfather, because that's the way my grandma laughed, and my mom copied her?

does the way my dad make comedic sounds when he's driving actually originate with a distant uncle two hundred year ago, who made funny noises in the horse-drawn cart because it made his niece laugh?

i wonder which of my little mannerisms came from ancestors long passed, and i wonder which of mine will echo in family descendants long after i'm gone.

Thoughts about rednecks and queers when I get home today.

Avatar

It's very important that we talk to people different from ourselves, and that goes for both of us.

I was having a conversation with a coworker today that started with 'I don't care of you're gay or whatever, just dont rub it in my face.'

Had he said that a few years ago I probably would have gone on the defense or tempted to have some snappy one-liner. But where he grew up, it was no ones business. If you were gay that was it, everyone knew and nobody cared.

But now it was political.

As a political queer, I explained to him that we'd always been political, but it's only fairly recently in our history that we've been able to have platforms. Like... his knowledge of anti gay laws was legalizing gay marriage ten-ish years ago, but when I told him that when I lived in montana in 2011 sodomy was a misdemeanor he had no clue.

So now that he knows I'll answer questions without shutting him down hes got a lot to say on the topic and I'm listening. And he's getting some of the details wrong for sure but hes trying. But I can tell that these are questions hes been afraid to ask before because he didnt want to say the wrong words.

And the thing is that theres queer rednecks and redneck queers, but it always seems like we're fighting each other and we needn't be. We can, and should, be friends. Because they hate being exploited and excluded and written off the same way we do. Weve got a lot of overlap, we have a lot in common, and we're all tired of houses being too damn expensive.

Hello white mutuals. Before you is a charcuterie board with 15 different types of cheese. If you manage to go 12 hours without touching the cheeses you can leave this room. Good luck.

Oh my god, how happy was I to find you on Tumblr?!

I started reading the Young Wizards books when I was an introverted child, sitting in a library, who longed for magic. These books meant so much to me and still do, to the point that I just bought the whole $44 bundle and am so excited to read them again!

So, question time!

I read on the website that there are still plans for a Book 11 and Book 12. Is this still true?! Please say it is!

Again, thank you for these books. They were a balm at age 11, they are still a balm at age 32.

There are definitely plans for a book 11 and 12. It's just a matter of working out when the time will be right to take them to the publisher.

Thanks so much for the nice words! I'm very glad the books are good for you. :)

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to Google what frizzles looked like normally and

But it does.

It does… one at a time.  It’d be useful to be able to select more than one. G&T but not higher, M&E only, everything but E for those who just don’t like smut. (btw I just checked and there is none of the exclusion filters showing on the search page at least in my computer)

AO3 does ‘and’ filters.

You don’t filter for M&E. You filter for not the other stuff.

Republican white supremacy is nothing new.

Once you recognize the desperation to reprioritize whiteness and protect whiteness, you see it every right wing policy/narrative.

THIS is specifically the Republicans are rolling back gun laws as fast as they can: to arm their militias and oppress everyone else!
