I don’t know why this is surprising. It’s rewatched because:

1. It has great characters that are comfortable to come home to.

2. It’s not serialised so you’re not committing to seven seasons, you’re committing to 45 minutes (this applies to TNG too).

3. It’s not as dated as TOS so there’s a wider audience.

4. The main ship is unresolved, so us nutjob shippers will rewatch forever going ‘If only…’ 💔😭

5. The above also means there’s a lot of fan fic being written that requires ‘research’ by rewatching episodes.

6. It’s a female led sci-fi series and sadly these are still rare and the ones that do exist have very different characters to Janeway, B'Elanna and Seven.

7. I actually can’t think of another sci-fi series that’s had a female showrunner? I don’t know if this matters to anyone else but given that’s my goal in life it was a sell point for me and whether you notice or not this has an affect on the way stories are told during Jeri Taylor’s seasons.

8. It’s happy. These people get along and you enjoy spending time with them.

9. It’s just a genuinely fantastic show.

10. Who doesn’t sometimes wish they’d get thrown to the other side of the galaxy and escape their lives? 😉

Always me.

I don't think I've ever actually stopped rewatching Voyager tbh

I love the way that Star Trek fans just accept that Galaxy Quest is part of the film franchise.

Galaxy Quest is what i imagine people would be like if star trek suddenly became real tomorrow.

Galaxy Quest was voted the 7th best Star Trek movie out of 13

yes it is

I can’t find the OP right now cause I’m on mobile, but there’s a galaxy quest post floating around that says something like:

“Intelligence is knowing that Galaxy Quest is not a Star Trek movie. Wisdom is knowing Galaxy Quest is the best Star Trek movie.”

And I think that says a lot about the Star Trek fandom, really.
