oh godddd I knew i was behind on asks but I didnt realize how bad it was.....anon who asked me about bug mandibles for an OC Im so sorry I cant find you.............

anyways my recommendation is arthropod maxillae. When I draw my fursona with bug appendages poking out of its mouth, I intend them to be maxillae. Actual mandibles are a bit more analagous to the human jawbone.

Maxillae are smaller appendages that manipulate food. On a humanoid, I don't think it would be entirely unreasonable for some small maxillae to fold up into the cheeks/against the gums, attached to the top of the mouth. They could still serve the purpose of manipulating & masticating food inside the mouth, while mostly not affecting speech. And they could reach forward in the mouth to become more visible.

I know you asked for a species recommendation but theres SOOOO many 😭 I'm hoping this will be more useful? Many bugs have specialized maxillae.

Picking at all of the things you listed are textbook for dermatillomania, as far as I am aware!

I went looking for scholarly sources to back me up, but the definition of "picking" is often left a bit vague. I can see how you might interpret that as being exclusive to opening sores on untouched, regular skin.

However, I did not have to mention doing that to get diagnosed with skin-picking disorder. I admitted to picking at all the things you listed here. I'm even specifically motivated to pick by texture differences on my skin.

I know that all conditions in the DSM-V are diagnosed by how disruptive they are to normal daily functioning. All of the forms of picking you listed can easily create abnormal problems. Bleeding on a daily basis isn't something most people have to deal with (this shocked me to learn, lol).

This doesn't mean that you have to be peeling scabs mid-conversation for it to be dermatillomania (although I HAVE done that, personally). It just means that if wanting and trying to stop has not been enough to stop you from frequently injuring yourself in this way, it is likely a disorder.

And don't get tripped up by the idea of "wanting to stop" like I did-- it also counts as dermatillomania if picking relieves stress for you and it is stressful to try and resist doing, for the logical sake of your health. This might feel like "not wanting to stop," but it's a compulsion; a disordered & harmful response to anxiety.

That was the case for me, with my ocd. I was irrationally afraid that my irregularly textured skin/scabs would fester or become cancerous if I didn't remove it. Not healthy! Anxiety medication has helped a lot.

Well. I didnt know anything about Miguel O'Hara outside this movie so I went to his wiki to try and understand this joke. The way the time travel secret dad stuff is explained by the wiki I wouldn't have though of this either so! I can only assume Wikipedia is to blame somehow fjdhgkjsg

Oh, I'd like to give him SOME credit: he doesn't seem like an unrepentant megalomaniac, which is a vital part of the Vladcore cocktail.

And I like him a lot! I'm very interested to see where his arc will go. I always love a sunk-cost fallacy antagonist, and I always love an antagonist with good intentions, so this is just DELIGHTFUL.

Also, I noticed that despite the fact that he's accused of not being funny, there are still a few moments where Miguel cracks a tiny bit of dry humor (i.e. "I've had the right amount of you" to Peter B.-- rude, but funny!!), or otherwise says something suggesting that his extreme seriousness takes a concerted effort to maintain. Most importantly it suggests that anger is not all that lies behind his workaholic persona. Love that for him! Get well soon bestie <3

Edit: oh yeah and I felt a normal amount of disappointment when he was interrupted before he could bite a neck (lie)
