If Vincenzo used Reddit:

AITA for pretending to not like the food of a guy who lied about cooking in Italy?

I (34m, Italian-raised since age 7) recently came to Korea for business reasons. There, I met an owner of an “Italian” restaurant who claimed to have learned how to cook in Italy. I knew he was lying pretty much the second that I spoke to him in Italian and he didn’t understand a word I was saying. I also asked him if he studied in Uffizi in Milan, and he said yes, even though that makes no sense, because any true Italian knows Uffizi is an art gallery in Florence. So as you may imagine I was utterly put off by this blatant lie.

However, I didn’t reveal that I was onto him. I decided to go to his restaurant and order a dish but pretend to find it disgusting. When he served it to me, I took a bite and purposely spat it into my napkin as he was watching. I then proceeded to tell him just how bad I thought it tasted. Of course, it tasted all right, but I wasn’t about to show him that. He deserves what he gets for pulling a sham operation wherein he lies to customers about having studied cooking in Italy. Not to mention that he also claims to speak Italian but very clearly doesn’t, though somehow he manages to dupe everyone around him because they don’t know any better.

Frankly I don’t think ITA here but I’m open to seeing what people think. A friend put me up to this so I am humouring her.

Not that I’ll change my mind after reading any of your comments. Lying about where you learned to make pasta is an affront to the entire Italian community.”
