I want to live by myself when I move out of my parent's place but I'm really afraid of money problems? I'm afraid that the only place I can afford will be in the ghetto and it'll all be torn apart and I'll only be allowed to eat one granola bar a week. I'm really stressing out about this. I don't know anything about after school life. I don't know anything about paying bills or how to buy an apartment and it's really scaring me. is there anything you know that can help me?

Adult Cheat Sheet:

Once you’ve looked over all those cool links, I have some general advice for you on how you can have some sort of support system going for you:

Reasons to move out of home

You may decide to leave home for many different reasons, including:

  • wishing to live independently
  • location difficulties – for example, the need to move closer to university
  • conflict with your parents
  • being asked to leave by your parents.

Issues to consider when moving out of home

It’s common to be a little unsure when you make a decision like leaving home. You may choose to move, but find that you face problems you didn’t anticipate, such as:

  • Unreadiness – you may find you are not quite ready to handle all the responsibilities.
  • Money worries – bills including rent, utilities like gas and electricity and the cost of groceries may catch you by surprise, especially if you are used to your parents providing for everything. Debt may become an issue.
  • Flatmate problems – issues such as paying bills on time, sharing housework equally, friends who never pay board, but stay anyway, and lifestyle incompatibilities (such as a non-drug-user flatting with a drug user) may result in hostilities and arguments.

Your parents may be worried

Think about how your parents may be feeling and talk with them if they are worried about you. Most parents want their children to be happy and independent, but they might be concerned about a lot of different things. For example:

  • They may worry that you are not ready.
  • They may be sad because they will miss you.
  • They may think you shouldn’t leave home until you are married or have bought a house.
  • They may be concerned about the people you have chosen to live with.

Reassure your parents that you will keep in touch and visit regularly. Try to leave on a positive note. Hopefully, they are happy about your plans and support your decision.

Tips for a successful move

Tips include:

  • Don’t make a rash decision – consider the situation carefully. Are you ready to live independently? Do you make enough money to support yourself? Are you moving out for the right reasons?
  • Draw up a realistic budget – don’t forget to include ‘hidden’ expenses such as the property’s security deposit or bond (usually four weeks’ rent), connection fees for utilities, and home and contents insurance.
  • Communicate – avoid misunderstandings, hostilities and arguments by talking openly and respectfully about your concerns with flatmates and parents. Make sure you’re open to their point of view too – getting along is a two-way street.
  • Keep in touch – talk to your parents about regular home visits: for example, having Sunday night dinner together every week.
  • Work out acceptable behaviour – if your parents don’t like your flatmate(s), find out why. It is usually the behaviour rather than the person that causes offence (for example, swearing or smoking). Out of respect for your parents, ask your flatmate(s) to be on their best behaviour when your parents visit and do the same for them.
  • Ask for help – if things are becoming difficult, don’t be too proud to ask your parents for help. They have a lot of life experience.

If your family home does not provide support

Not everyone who leaves home can return home or ask their parents for help in times of trouble. If you have been thrown out of home or left home to escape abuse or conflict, you may be too young or unprepared to cope.

If you are a fostered child, you will have to leave the state-care system when you turn 18, but you may not be ready to make the sudden transition to independence.

If you need support, help is available from a range of community and government organisations. Assistance includes emergency accommodation and food vouchers. If you can’t call your parents or foster parents, call one of the associations below for information, advice and assistance.

Where to get help

  • Your doctor
  • Kids Helpline Tel. 1800 55 1800
  • Lifeline Tel. 13 11 44
  • Home Ground Services Tel. 1800 048 325
  • Relationships Australia Tel. 1300 364 277
  • Centrelink Crisis or Special Help Tel. 13 28 50
  • Tenants Union of Victoria Tel. (03) 9416 2577

Things to remember

  • Try to solve any problems before you leave home. Don’t leave because of a fight or other family difficulty if you can possibly avoid it.
  • Draw up a realistic budget that includes ‘hidden’ expenses, such as bond, connection fees for utilities, and home and contents insurance.
  • Remember that you can get help from a range of community and government organizations.

Reblogging for myself

reblogging for those that follow me that may be starting to move out

Tama is boss

THE TRAINS HAVE CARTOON TAMAS ON THEM

Sad update everyone, Tama recently passed away… An estimated 3,000 people, including railway officials, attended Tama the cat’s funeral on Sunday, days after she died of heart failure aged 16. [x]

For those who haven’t read articles about it, the local shrine elevated her to a god. She’s now the Eternal Stationmaster and patron god of the station.

Beautiful.

Now I’m crying thanks

and a new cat was hired right?

yep! her name is Nitama (essentially ”second tama” or “tama II”) and she served under Tama as an apprentice before being appointed her deputy

I’m crying at 11pm over train cats

Nitama, already now a mature cat (born 2010), has a protege named Yontama (fourth Tama, b. 2016).  There is no information available for either the physical befellment or tragic self-disgrace which has removed Santama from contention.

^Nitama majestic, and below with Yontama

Yontama.

a legacy

okay but actually what happened to santama (or sun-tama-tama, which is her name because it’s a pun on santama) was that she was basically sent to train for the position in okayama and they liked her so much they refused to send her back

“Sun-tama-tama” (a pun off of “Santama”, lit. “third Tama”) was a calico cat sent for training in Okayama. Sun-tama-tama was considered as a candidate for Tama’s successor, but the Okayama Public Relations representative who had been caring for Sun-tama-tama refused to give the cat up writing, “I will not let go of this child, she will stay in Okayama.” [25]
As of September 2018, Sun-tama-tama is working as the stationmaster in Naka-ku, Okayama and appears occasionally on Tama’s Twitter account.

Every time I see this post there’s new info and it gets better

You are only allowed to scroll pass this after you pay tribute to the great Tama Station masters.

Eugene Appreciation Week Day 1: Childhood

"You're not going anywhere, Rider!" Arnie bellowed as he moved toward Eugene. "This barn is surrounded. You bust through those doors and you and your horse will be finished before you even can begin to gallop. Just give up already."

Eugene scratched his chin. "Giving up has never really been my style, Dr. Deserio. I thought you knew that by now."

me 2 the outside world: yeah i don't really care for personality quizzes
me in the corner of my room @ 2am while eating spinach out of a plastic bag: as a chaotic good, sanguine, gemini, enfp who was born in the year of the horse, what should I have for breakfast tomorrow and also who is my soul mate

Talking about astronomy and fantasy stuff actually makes me wonder how much of what we see is the real world now.

And actually the ATLAS IS A GREAT TIME PLACE HOLDER TOO. Idk if someone’s already spoken about the atlas but here we go again if someone already did xD

We see the world map, we see the contents and the markers, the scene gives us just enough time to make out most of what’s on there.

Their world is similar to the ours based on the map alone. And after some digging I found the Waldseemüller Map and Theatrum Orbis Terrarum

Theatrum Orbis Terrarum was made in 1570.

Waldseemüller map was 1507.

The most noticeable of names is Brazil’s to the far left and Antartica’s to the bottom. However Brazil is written differently. The word closest to this Brazil is Amazonia, the Amazon forest

And how is it written in Theatrum Orbis Terrarum

Next is Antartica, albeit not the whole word but OGNITA

And once again it’s on the same map written as COGNITA.

Moving back up to Europe and the Middle East.

Now if you compare the two, you can see several similarities. It’s much closer Theatrum Orbis Terrarum from the names to the castle markings with some minor differences.

First, there’s the name Barbary, as in Barbary coast. Which around the time was the collective name for the mediterranean coast Europe could trade with.  Above Barbary, we see Europe’s old collective name, Evropa under the many Castle and green markers, which appear to be ports and important cities.

Upwards, we see Scandi, for the Scandinavian area. But this map doesn’t have Scandi on it, rather it has Noruegia, Suedia, and Bergen. Ignoring Bergen, as it’s a city not a country, Norugeia and Suedia are todays, Norway and Sweden. If there’s anything combining the Nordic countries it’d be Lappia

Next to it there’s a word in between Finland and Russia.  A faint T can be seen and if we go off of the Dutch map, we get Tartaria. That falls into place with the rule of the Tartars.

Moving East, there’s a peek of the same character as in Brazil. Followed by an i and an a, so what has Zia? in the Middle East? In the same exact spot we see Persia.

Peeking at the center of the book we see at least four other names along the waterways.  And if we go by using the castle markers and current day maps we know Egypt is there. The best visible letter is the A near the bottom of the rivers.

Now looking at Asia, the name marker for Persia is the only writing. Asia is left blank but has markers along where important trading posts are.

But interestingly we see some castle markings left on the coasts of China and India. Japan also has one, however they weren’t open to trade at the time until 30 decades later.

Finally note, how there’s a similar ring around the two maps as well as the equator line. The one difference to the movie is that the encircled area is only a portion of what the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum shows. Which means, it’s the Atlas Maior. Atlas Maior is another cartographic of the world apparently released between 1662-1672, included markers on Japan, where it separates the world into the one of the way current day atlas presentations (but I think it’s decreasing?).

Now you can argue, they could’ve used any of the maps from that similar period, but what really sold me on these two, Theatrum Orbis Terrarum in particular, was the usage of markers and their placements.

So, basically, Disney most likely used inspiration from both Theatrum Orbis Terrarum and Atlas Maior and other maps of that time, didn’t acknowledge Asia by name lol, and scaled it down to the important parts.

My first (and possibly only) contribution to Eugene Appreciation Week! (We’ll see how the rest of the week goes.) I know I talked about it quite a bit before today, but it should not have been as hard as it was to find ten sincere compliments aimed at Eugene. Even so, making this gifset has made me so happily emosh. ;u; Eugene deserves the world, and I am happy to show his skill, his bravery, his compassion, his loyalty, his kindness.

(Also, his fashion sense. What a shame I couldn’t find a good island outfit scene to pair with one of the quotes.)
