I think one of the reasons drag kings aren’t as popular as drag queens, aside from the fact that straight women don’t like us, is that people are uncomfortable acknowledging masculinity as a performance. Like we as a society know that femininity is a performance, with its own costumes and rules. Masculinity is also a performance, and nothing makes that more clear than someone making an exaggeration of it

Throwing my two cents in, even the small-time drag kings in local scenes are often pretty cool.
I’m a king from Melbourne, Australia performing under the name Johnny Cocksville and I like to think I keep things visually interesting. I actually got to march in the 2023 Mardi Gras parade as part of the largest gathering of drag kings ever seen in one location (we hit 80).
Kings get a lot of shit but we’re actually a lot more diverse than most people assume.

no I don’t like it because there’s something INCREDIBLY dystopian about being forced to soften terms for basic parts of the human experience like death and sex (and even more so terms for oppressed minorities- call me a “le-dollar sign-bian” and I will bite you) purely because advertisers and corporations demand it
The idea that young people are getting used to not being able to speak in public about sex, queerness etc without talking around censors, and see this as normal and not a problem, scares me tbh.

It appears I am unable to focus on the thing I am doing. It's almost like I have some form of condition that disregulates my focus or attention if you will. Some kind of deficit of some sort. I wonder what that all is about.
When I tell how snarky at myself I have gotten with this and how I have begun doing this to other neurodivergent people around me like a dad with a joke....

on the announcement that Disney+ is removing a plethora of shows and films from its service, please read these tweets from Willow writer John Bickerstaff. this is not a tax writeoff like Batgirl, because these projects have already been released. this is a move designed to cut off financial support in the form of residuals, and break the spirit of the strike. here is the deadline article that lists the films/shows that will be removed.
as always, donate to the entertainment community fund, vocally support the WGA online and irl, or join a picket in a major US city if you can. let them know they can't keep getting away with things like this.
