his was a story people bought into for some reason. even though tommy was a nepo baby, his business was entirely his, built on money he’d earned actually working for himself. he’d made sure not a scrap of his father’s name could be claimed to his company. he was his own person entirely. “i’m glad. and i’ll be honest-” the first lie “- flattery isn’t what i’m intending. i won’t coddle or bullshit you. if i thought something wasn’t good, i would tell you because i care so desperately about music and about getting to encourage the young stars to be their most authentic selves. it’s why i started this company in the first place.” it was amazing really, how easily tommy lied. how it rolled off the tongue so smoothly there would be no doubt of it being the truth. he shook his head at her handing the card back, refusing to take it. “i understand entirely. talk to your band, i’d be happy to meet then all and discuss your future together. and if they’re not into it, that’s okay. but there might be a time you want to branch out on your own, which is also okay sadie. you have to put yourself first in life sometimes. and if that ever happens, i want you to be able to find me. i’m truly routing for you.”
it was tempting , to go it alone. not only had recent songs not had the vibe that sadie associated with the band , most of the album was done. it needed some rerecordings , some remastering , and then it was time to start promoting. it would be months before she could begin working on developing the lyrics and melodies she'd written , especially if the album did well and they did a big tour. not only that , but she was the only one of the band who didn't get along with gabriel. he was overbearing , didn't trust them to make good decisions and most frustratingly , was usually right. her dislike for him had little to do with the decisions he made , but the way they had started out. she knew that. that didn't mean she was willing to let that grudge go just yet. " thanks. i just ... i don't think the band's going to want to move , " she told him plainly. " i don't know how this all works exactly , but ... could i talk to you about doing a solo album on the side sometime ? pick your brains ? i'll try and talk to the band first , obviously , i just really don't think they'll want to change. "
